Royal Mandarin Hotel & Resort in Pwani Mchangani

The place has great location, you get to enjoy the beach during low tide you get to walk all the way to the reef, swim and enjoy the deep ocean. Breakfast isn't worth it, the water the coffee cold, the seats are not wiped and dusty, the floor in the bar is not swept. The pool has sand in. The staff are shy and dont know how to help the guest, I meant at 2pm they are closed for lunch and you cant order anything. No menu and everything is hand written where the spelling are off. Rooms, very spacious, that's all going for big bed, yes. The mosquito net has holes, there ants in the room, wall lizards crawling all over. There is no tv, no wifi no kettle in the rooms, so if you know you like to have something in the night better buy a flask to help you out.
Truely the place got potential and a lot needs to be done.

The Hotel is very local specifically the rooms and the environment too, the room services not that good, the food service is quite good, the waiters/waitress are frindly as well as the chefs, the outside environment not much clean and not attrative, it looks like an old place

gloomy and not a safe place. located in a green area with lots of animals. we booked a garden bungalo which was not isolated with holes on the floor and under the door, so we were facing baby black mamba, scorpions and huge cockroaches in the room during our stay. Lots of coconuts on the hotel palms which drops during wind could easily kill. Toilet was broken and was not possible to sit on it. To move to a safe place on the beach we was charged 70 dollars. The new place had a broken air condition. Breakfast was all the same during 21 days stay with a kid portions. The territory is full of trash and nobody cares.

Very nice location, but poor management, went for breakfast and swimming at the same time, thats a hell of a new experience.
I couldnt tell the difference between the swiming pool and the dining room, the roof was leaking and the breakfast wasnt one of the best, no toilet paper in the rooms, but the beach is nice and makes you forget about the money you paid for the services tou paid for!

It is a nice location but the rooms were not in nice condition. There are no hand towels, provided towels were stained and shower drainage was blocked. Provided buffet choices were very narrow. If I pay £15 in UK or 15€ in Germany, you will get very wide of choices in all you can eat buffet places. But they charge $18 and choices are very narrow.
Although I am not happy with the hotel facilities, I will not find fault in staff. They were very friendly and worked hard to please the customers. Everyday beds were arranged beautifully.

Hotel told us they are restoring the hotel but they should pay closer attention to the huts/rooms first before making them available to the customers. No drinking water available in the room. I don't think the tap water is drinkable in Pwani Mchangani.

General note about Pwani Mchangani: If you are relaying on ATM's, there are no ATM's anywhere around that place that you can use VISA or MasterCard. You need to go to Stone Town. Taxi about €25 or local Dala Dala 1500 TSH. We learned it in hard way by spending all the money before withdraw something first :)
