Reviews
It was thrilling to return and see that the "spirit of Zeavola" is alive despite the significant updates. Outrigger still embraces the "barefoot luxury" style with its sand paths and quiet atmosphere, but the standards have been elevated significantly. I especially liked:
Team: Sincere service and much of the original Zeavola team. Chef Satya, Andrew and restaurant team proudly serve delicious dishes and drinks (the coffee is beyond praise), Rhys (Dive center) easily organizes cool sea trips, and Teddy (Spa) gives a wonderful massage.
Renovated Villas: High-quality renovation. The interiors are fresh and premium with high-end materials, thoughtful lighting, quiet AC, and exceptional sleep comfort.
New Areas: An expansive new pool right by the beach with plenty of comfortable sunbeds, a new fitness center, and a new restaurant with both indoor seating and an open terrace overlooking the sea.
The Vibe: It is still that same quiet corner away from the crowds, only now with modern 5-star comfort.
This is the place for those seeking a unique blend of Thai tradition, tranquility, and modern luxury. It was quite emotional for me to see a legend return so fantastically under Chris's (General Manager) leadership. Overall highly recommended!
Before arriving, I had stayed at several other 5-star luxury properties throughout Thailand and had never experienced an Outrigger resort before, especially one that had recently gone through such a major renovation and rebrand. From the moment I arrived by speedboat, the hospitality stood out immediately. Multiple staff members greeted me warmly, helped with my luggage, and made the arrival feel seamless and welcoming.
The property itself is beautiful. The landscaping, white sand walkways, and overall atmosphere create a calm luxury feel without feeling overly commercialized. But the biggest surprise was the villa interior. The design felt modern tropical minimalist with warm wood finishes, soft lighting, vaulted ceilings, and a peaceful indoor-outdoor layout. The villa was spacious, spotless, and incredibly relaxing. I honestly caught myself thinking several times, “I wish this was my home in Portugal.”
What truly makes this place special though is the people. Everyone — from landscaping staff to housekeeping to restaurant staff — greeted me warmly every day and genuinely made me feel taken care of.
The food was exceptional. I’ve eaten at Michelin-star restaurants before and honestly preferred many of the meals here. Some favorites were the beef tenderloin, tiger prawns, green curry, fresh seafood, and the incredible breakfast every morning. The restaurant’s modern tropical design, open kitchen, and fresh seafood displays made the experience even better.
The spa was another highlight. Tum welcomed me with such kindness and made the entire experience relaxing from the start. Varn gave one of the most calming massages I’ve had, and Teddy was equally wonderful during my second treatment.
I also spent several days scuba diving, and Rhys was incredibly helpful getting everything organized and always took time to stop by and say hello throughout my stay.
The app, concierge communication, and overall service were excellent throughout the entire trip.
Luxury is easy to build. Creating warmth, peace, and genuine hospitality is much harder — and this resort achieved both.
Thank you to everyone at Outrigger Phi Phi for making these 5 nights so memorable. I will absolutely be returning.
I also would like to highlight the kindness and professionalism of the staff, they’re very efficient and lovely. Ms Nok and Mr Bomb at the reception were very helpful and even arranged our transfer to the next hotel and island directly with them, while also booking the tickets for us on the boat. Aeom in the restaurant was also very helpful and kind.
We booked the diving as well with them and Becca was great. My husband was really happy to see a leopard shark.
Overall we would definitely recommend this place and we would go back - but do make your own diligence before going, it is not a resort similar to the other ones around as it is really focused on nature and the beauty of the surroundings.
Returning to this hotel, we expected an improved experience based on assurances from management. Instead, we were met with the same old issues—broken promises, poor service, and an overall decline in standards.
The Beach Nightmare
The infamous tractor still rumbles up and down the "private beach" at least 30 times a day, shattering any hope of peace. This has been raised in countless reviews, and yet, despite assurances in 2024 that it would be resolved, it persists. If you’re not dodging diesel fumes, you’re weaving through crowds of guests from neighboring hotels cutting across the beach—often in groups of 50 or more. Security? Almost non-existent. We had to personally alert staff multiple times as non-guests took loungers and hovered near our belongings.
Fire Show Hell
If the tractor doesn't ruin your day, the ear-splitting fire shows from the next hotel will ruin your evening. These occur three to four times a week, just 100 meters away, and are impossible to escape—even from the furthest cabins. Lock yourself in? Doesn’t help. And again, we were told this was "being addressed." It wasn’t.
A Room So Filthy It Needed a Deep Clean
As if the rest of the experience wasn’t bad enough, our room was so dirty upon arrival that it required a full deep clean before it was even remotely acceptable. How this level of neglect is possible at a so-called luxury resort is beyond us.
Mosquito Spraying – But What Are They Spraying?
Daily pesticide fogging happens with little to no warning, and no transparency about what chemicals are being used. Given the relentless mosquito presence, whatever they’re using is clearly ineffective.
The Pool of Neglect
Walking barefoot around the pool? Risk second-degree burns. The deck is scalding hot, with broken elephants, shoddy workmanship, and poorly maintained—issues raised in 2024 with zero improvement. Once again, we were misled by the hotel’s empty reassurances.
A Stay That Feels Like Work
What should have been a relaxing escape turned into a two-week exercise in pointing out hygiene concerns in the restaurant, overworked staff on 12-hour shifts, and the resort's general decline. Anything beyond a short stay, and you’ll start noticing the cracks—literally and figuratively.
Bottom line? This hotel excels at one thing: telling guests what they want to hear to secure bookings. Shame on them.
It feels like I am leaving long term friends.
After 19 days of getting to know an incredibly thoughtful and personable staff team.
The manager, Ek and Nico and Tik were always available and present throughout our stay spending much time chatting with us.
Wy wife has already mentioned some of te staff by name bt I really needed to mention some staff that warmed my heart with their genuine desire to be helpful.....Aom, Ome, Laila, Naya, Yuy and Golf.
A very special mentor for the trainees that moved on...Mameow, Idea, Earth and Ying...they were an asset to the Zeavola family and I missed them when They went.
I do not normally leave reviews but felt I had to this time as our holiday was made special from every member of staff...
Zeavola really is a magical resort. I can see why families keep returning year after year.
The beach and gardens are meticulously maintained
I really do thank you for everything xx
