Reviews
After breakfast (we did B&B, which I’d recommend) and some morning pool time, we’d head down to the private beach with a short trip in the cable car (literally 2 mins) to hang out in the afternoon and enjoy the amazing views. Whilst there, we’d grab some good food and enjoy a bucket of cold beer or some cocktails in the Bamboo Beach Bar, where the lovely Sandy, Hazel and team looked after us with their great service and constant smiles. In the evening, the Panwa House restaurant on the beach is lovely and a must do to treat yourself. You can also watch the EPL footie in the Lighthouse Bar if wanting to keep up with your team. We unfortunately didn’t get to try the Italian restaurant that was on site.
All in all a great, chill, fun break. We stayed 3 night as we were moving around Phuket, but really needed a few more - next time!
Thank you for your great hospitality team Cape Panwa. Hopefully see you again soon :-)
The only downside was that our room had a strong musty smell. It didn’t come from the linens, curtains, or towels, but seemed to be in the room itself (possibly from behind the furniture, the walls, the air conditioning, or under the mattress). Our room was in the newer U Wing building with a mountain view, facing north, so perhaps the lack of sunlight contributed to it. The smell was so noticeable that I had to sleep with a mask on every night and was worried it might affect my health.
I reported it to the staff, and while they said they cleaned the room, it felt more like they tried to cover the odor with aroma candles rather than performing a deep clean. The fragrance masked the smell temporarily, but once the candles burned out, the musty odor returned. Guests with asthma or allergies should take this into consideration. I wonder if the ocean-view rooms that get more sunlight had the same problem.
Aside from that, it’s an older hotel but with charm and character, and overall we were able to enjoy a relaxing stay. However, it may not quite live up to a true five-star standard.
Check-in was unnecessarily complicated. Ironically, the staffs at the reception did not make us feel welcome at all from the start. Only one person named Sophie was very warm, the others didn’t even want to talk to us directly and instead talked to Sophie (in front of us) for Sophie to convey their messages (as though we couldn’t understand English). Took us too long to checkin and by the time we got to our room it was almost 6PM.
The shuttle service was very disappointing. Before departure, the driver remained seated in the car while guests queued outside waiting. When approached, he simply gestured towards the back and continued on his phone—very unprofessional. For the return trip, we had to wait almost 50 minutes for pickup. We started waiting at 9.30PM and only got back to the hotel close to 11PM, even though the ride itself takes no more than five minutes.
The Garden Room is poorly located—far from the lobby and accessible only by climbing many stairs. This was a huge inconvenience for my elderly parents who struggled to manage the steps.
Instead of being a relaxing getaway, the experience turned out frustrating. For the rate charged, the service and hospitality were far below expectations. And plus, we didn’t manage to experience all of what the hotel offers, even though we paid just as much.
Starting with the service: I was deeply disappointed by the inefficiency. On the first day of my stay (the 15th), I noticed a drainage issue with the bathroom sink faucet and informed the staff, who promised to send an engineer at 8 AM the next morning. Yet by the time I checked out, the problem had never been addressed! I followed up with the staff every day from the 16th to the 17th, but no one took action. Is this turning a blind eye to guests or just abysmal service efficiency?
Next, the breakfast was far from appetizing, with a limited variety. In all the 5-star hotels I've stayed in, the breakfast quality is one of the benchmarks for judging a hotel's excellence. For three consecutive days, I only ate to fill my stomach—nothing more.
I'd hoped for a wonderful experience, but I'm extremely disappointed. I felt no sense of service here, just endless waiting.
The spa was amazing as well, should try it!
