Blue Orchid Beach Krabi in Ao Nam Mao

Major point-they want cash in advance. I had to find over £1300 in cash for a 2-week stay. It would be OK to stay here for a couple of nights, as most people did while I was there (2 weeks). The room was adequate, a pool view room. There are 4 of those on the ground floor. It had a small balcony but no storage space. The bathroom was a good size. The rest of the rooms either have no view or balcony, or higher up and backing on to the busy road. The staff, like most in Thailand it seems, speak little English but you can make yourself understood. The pool was excellent, and the breakfast, but there is no bar or restaurant. It's a small hotel with about 15 rooms. I spent 15 nights here overall, although I did travel around to The Death Railway and also to Koh Lanta. The rooms in the hotels I stayed in there were both better and cheaper. I ate in the little street restaurant along the road, which was excellent and cheap. There was also a much grander resort a little walk away which had better food and service but was a little more expensive. I used Bolt for the taxis I needed to get into Krabi, about 200 baht each way, about £4. The beach is a bit rough, and the nearby pier has noisy boats going to and from the islands most of the day. The noise isn't too bad though.
