Our stay at the Hampton by Hilton San Diego was wonderful, thanks to the exceptional service we received. Kudos to the receptionist, Briana, who went above and beyond to make our visit comfortable. She kindly switched our room to a more suitable one for my family and even made sure we got breakfast to go for our early start. Her warmth and professionalism truly made a difference. Highly recommend this hotel for both comfort and excellent customer care!

The hotel was clean, had a nice pool and hot tub, was less expensive than comparable Hampton Inns, had friendly staff and good hot breakfast every morning. It is also 7 min from San Diego Zoo. The Zoo is amazing! Best thing we did in San Diego.

The rooms were small, the beds were comfortable but all other furniture in room and lobby was worn, broken in and tattered. It was all clean. I wasn't worried about cleanliness, they did a good job there.

Some non chain hotels adjacent to this property have been converted to public housing by the city to assist homeless people to find housing. Don't take my word for it, just do a quick google search. We did not know coming in.

I am convinced one erratic psychotic acting guest at this Hampton Inn was staying on a county waiver or something. I am honestly not sure. We had enough negative interactions with this guy that I didn't feel my 14 and 17 year old children could leave the hotel room unsupervised. The guy was disruptive in public areas to multiple guests on multiple consecutive days and staff seemed unable to rectify the situation. When I talked to the front desk about the guy being verbally aggressive and psychotic they talked to me about not discriminating. He and I were both Caucasian, just FYI. They were afraid I was asking them to discriminate against a man suffering from drug induced psychosis who was affecting my, and others', quality of stay.

All of the other guests were great, families on vacation, just like my own.

There is a large homeless population all around this neighborhood, the street is called (Hotel Circle). It is a circle of hotels around a large multi lane freeway. The freeways made access difficult and confusing and congregations of homeless people up and down the street. The police were out on the street in front of the hotel with lights on talking to someone or stopping some car at least once a day that I saw, and I was gone most of each day. 3 days in a row, check in, zoo day, check out (1 day early, I had to argue to avoid a $75 early check out fee).

3 stars for clean hotel, great service, good food, close to zoo, good pool deck.

I actively try to be polite and refrain from holding judgement of others. I want to feel safe while on vacation with wife and kids over a thousand miles from our home. I figure anyone reading this review needs to know the reality of this situation good and bad so they know what they are getting into.

As a large 46 y/o male nurse used to working ER, Psych and ICU I found myself afraid I might find myself in a situation where I would have to try to be dominant over someone just to keep my family safe. I am objective and not reactive and good at de escalating, I was amped up. We vacation all over the place, coast to coast, in lots of mid level condos and hotels, I almost never have this feeling while out and about. I do not enjoy it and it detracts from the quality of my experience.

Its a clean hotel with friendly service full of vacationing families, but there are some caveats. I'm not willing to compromise on safety. I don't want to feel like I have to stay amped up.

We like Hampton Inn over all. I think Hilton should consider just closing this one down. There are probably too many things working against this district in general.

Beds are comfy. Room was clean. Bathroom also but the shower. Tv had youtube but couldn't enter without an account!

The worst experience in breakfast: no alternative to whole milk. No vegetarian options. They did an omelet with HAM and I asked if there was anything without meat... the lady just replied "sorry, that is what we have for today". So i just ate an apple thwt had dirt!, and cereal without milk.
IT WAS AN EXAGERATION AND A BIT RUDE THAT JANUARY 1ST AT 10AM THEY CLOSED THE DOORS.TO BREAKFAST. I KNOW IT SAID 6-10AM BUT IT WAS JAN. 1ST AND THERE WAS ALOT OF PEOPLE LEFT WITHOUT BREAKFAST FOR ARRIVING 5 MINUTES LATER.
THE LADY WAS SMILING AS SHE CLOSED THE DOOR , GRABED HER UMBRELLA AND LEFT.

Good location on hotel circle, kind and attentive front desk attendants. Very loud on the north side of the property adjacent to highway, We had to change rooms. This property is very run down, furniture is filthy and old in the lobby and rooms. Sheets are grayish, not white. Bathroom tiles cracked. External doors out of order, must enter central location. Fire alarm at 5:30 am. Hilton Gold member here, but will make different choice next visit. The worst Hampton inn we've stayed at across the country.

I chose the Hampton Inn Mission Valley for my family to stay at for a 4 day trip to San Diego at the end of October for a wedding. My first impression on arrival was a welcoming lobby and friendly staff. When we arrived in our room, I found that our bathroom door looked like it had a years worth of toddler fingerprints all over it, the light switches had makeup on them, the lotion bottle in the bathroom was empty, and the bed coverlets were frayed and unravelling. I requested someone come fill the lotion and clean the door, but no one ever did (lotion got filled right before we checked out). The beds were the worst beds I have ever slept on... like someone threw a sheet over the springs. By day 3 of our trip we had to cancel our plans to the zoo because we were so exhausted from being up all night with those beds the 2 previous nights, we didn't have the energy to go. I was so disappointed and will definitely NOT be staying there again. Hampton used to have the best mattresses. It's why I chose them. Clearly their priorities have shifted. I will say that the breakfast was really good.

The staff were VERY helpful and friendly throughout my stay, and if I return to San Diego I won't even look to stay anywhere else.

The staff is great, but they had apparently forgotten that we had a reservation with a late night (2am) check in, so when we got there at that time, they didn't have a room available. Fortunately this hotel has great customer service and they paid for us to stay at another (really, really nice) hotel and didn't charge us for that night. Also left a gift bag in our room. Still an unnerving experience to have a hotel forget your reservation and give away your room though. I fear if we had come a week earlier during San Diego Comic Con there wouldn't have been anywhere else for us to stay.

Overall clean and quiet rooms. Not a bad place to stay.

Clean hotel. Decent rooms. Easy access to the freeway. You will need a car if you decide to stay here as I wouldn't recommend walking on the access road. I didn't see any restaurants or stores in walking distance anyway but the hotel is very close to all the attractions. Staff is friendly and accommodating. $19 for parking is a steep. Gym and pool are a good addition. Very family friendly.

This place makes me want to hurry up and get back to San Diego. Everything here was amazing, from the hotel staff to the amenities. I thought there was going to be a problem with the parking fees due to the fact that the site I booked with never mentioned that there were overnight parking fees but the staff was very attentive to this and removed those fees for me. The morning breakfast buffet was ENORMOUS and the staff were always so pleasant and helpful. Even the coffee cups were fun with little mustaches on them. The pool was very nice and modern with great seating areas around the pool and spa. The rooms were big and the beds were very soft! Thank you Hampton for making this a wonderful trip...but maybe get rid of those parking fees.

Beware add on parking fees, bad smell, breakfast not worth eating. Not told about add on parking fees during reservations or check in. Didn't find out until the bill was emailed to me after checkout. Room was not very clean. Attempts have been made to spruce up the place, but the wear and tear is evident. Smell of smoke, cigarette?, present throughout our stay. Complained, nothing done. Pillows terrible, one of two queen beds extremely lumpy. Management does not care. Stay elsewhere
