Moving on to the food. We got hummus appetizer, tomato soup and a grilled chicken sandwich. All 3 things were excellent.
The reason for 3 stars boils down to the service. We weren't drinking. We got very little food (which all came out at the same time, by the way). My boyfriend and I were there much longer than necessary. Our server would disappear for long periods. Our water was almost always empty. And the restaurant really wasn't very full.
FYI - last ATL (4+ years ago)visit I went here multiple times and brought over others and over $500+ business to this place, the service side (and management) is slipping severely. Only good side is they empower employees to make things right, and the food has good quality.
We came in this past Saturday night - at the peak time of 7:30. Though there was a wait, we had made a reservation and were seated immediately.
Our waiter was very pleasant and professional. We each ordered drinks from the bar and they were delivered quickly. Our food came out less than 10 minutes after we placed our order. My wife had the fried chicken and I had the Manhattan steak. My steak was a perfect mid-rare.
All in all, we will be back, though we are still hesitant about visiting during DragonCon, we come downtown often enough that we will consider Max Lager's anytime we are in the vicinity.
