Herton Garden Hotel in Kunming

This is an old hotel that opened 13 years ago and was renovated in 2021. The overall experience was poor, and I wouldn't recommend it for travel. I stayed in a double room facing the courtyard, and here's my detailed review:

Cleanliness: The bathroom drain smelled strongly of odor, especially noticeable near the main entrance. Even with the exhaust fan running, the odor persisted while I was sleeping, though faintly so. It was stronger on the 3rd floor than the 4th.

Environment and Service: The environment was acceptable, with ordinary, unremarkable decor. The guest room doors were very thin, almost hollow, allowing you to hear people talking and walking in the hallway clearly. This renovation was clearly shoddy, and it's easy to be woken up if you're a light sleeper. On the first morning, I was woken up by renovations in the restaurant before 9:30 am; the electric drill was constantly running. However, after calling the front desk, they immediately addressed the issue and stopped the construction. They also offered to help me change rooms, moving me from the 3rd to the 4th floor. The front desk and guest room staff were very polite. The restaurant staff were a bit hard to describe; they seemed more relaxed than the guests, and were rather quiet when clearing the room. Overall, it's fair to say that for an established hotel at this price point, one can't expect too much, but it is a hotel, not a guesthouse.

Facilities: The toilet seat wasn't heated, making it cold. Even in temperatures of 13-14 degrees Celsius, the central air conditioning wasn't running, and the room was only 18 degrees Celsius. The guest room TV was very small, around 40 inches, and couldn't be projected (confirmed by front desk and engineering department).

Overall, while you can sense their effort to serve guests, the management is lacking. The location, environment, and price don't offer any significant advantages, and competing with newer hotels and guesthouses at around 300 yuan is difficult.
