Description

Hotel Alte Brennerei is a 3-star accommodation located in Wernigerode, Germany, offering a range of room types from Economy Single rooms to Duplex Studios. The hotel operates in a refurbished historic building featuring modern amenities such as WiFi, free parking, a spa and wellness centre including a sauna, and accessible facilities for disabled guests. Guests can enjoy the on-site restaurant and bar, which serves local dishes and offers an outdoor dining area in the courtyard. The rooms vary in size and comfort level, with some facing an inner courtyard that functions as the restaurant’s outdoor seating area. The reception is located on a side street and is not staffed 24 hours, making late check-in potentially challenging. Pets are not allowed, and the hotel caters to families with children by providing cribs and extra beds upon request. Breakfast is served daily as a buffet between 07:30 and 10:00, though it requires an additional fee.

Location

Hotel Alte Brennerei sits on the northeast end of Breite Straße, Wernigerode's main street, about a 10-minute walk from the Harz Schmalspurbahn/DB railway station. The hotel is also close to several local restaurants, including Gaststätte Harzstube (47 meters), Gaststätte Zum Lukullus (67 meters), and Bui Ngoc Bistro (96 meters). Secure parking is available approximately 100 meters away, though it is a paid service. The hotel’s proximity to the old town and the castle makes it convenient for exploring local attractions on foot.

Tips

  • Check in before 8 PM to avoid difficulties as reception staff are not always available late.
  • If you have a room facing the inner courtyard, expect some noise from the restaurant's outdoor seating area during early evenings.

Nice Hotel

A perfect hotel for us, easy check in, everyone spoke English which helped. The breakfast was amazing and very wonderful.

We didn't stay at the hotel, and only had dinner here one evening. Ordered the Brockenschnitzel and the Harzer Wildgulasch, both were actually very nice but we waited well over an hour for it to arrive! We're generally pretty patient and understanding when places are busy, but this seemed excessive, in fact our food arrived so late we couldn't even order a desert because the kitchen had closed once we'd finished eating. The staff were very courteous but possibly there weren't enough of them to cope with the customers.

Incredible room, cozy and clean. It had everything we needed and the restaurant with Biergarten was excellent. Located close enough to the train station and old town for exploring. Price was right for room and it exceeded our expectations.

Combined hotel and restaurant in relatively refurbished set of buildings at the edge of the Altstadt, very well located for the railway station and castle. Our room was not large but was modern and comfortable, and very well insulated against sound. There was a safe but, as far as we could see, no air conditioning. The breakfast buffet was extensive. Reception is not manned 24 hours per day which makes check-in before 15.00 hrs difficult. The semi-detached relationship between hotel and restaurant was a bit difficult to get to grips with. Thus though the restaurant staff treated us as normal for breakfast -- albeit being very anxious not to say bossy, about where we sat -- during the rest of the day they treated us as if they had not seen us before and being (overly) insistent on prior booking.

Nice little hotel with a good breakfast and friendly restaurant staff. Well-situated, walkable from the station and the town centre. Ground-floor rooms are a bit pokey since the front door is the only window. And "balcony" means a table in a shared courtyard - no privacy and the restaurant terrace is noisy. Receptionist is a minimalist with better things to do.

Great location, so quite at night, Walk to the station or all through the old town.

This hotel is very central, a mere 10 minute walk to the Harz Schmalspurbah /DB railway station. There is secure parking 100m away which is charged. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Breakfast buffet is excellent with wide and varied choice. Certainly worth considering when staying in Wernigerode and I’d definitely return.

Nice clean and modern hotel in an old building so no lift. Conveniently located for the town and rail station (10 min walk) A good breakfast buffet.

We had to cancel our trip due to floods which caused all trains to be cancelled while we were travelling to Wernigerode. We contacted the hotel as soon as it was clear that we would have to turn around but they were unwilling to offer us any form of refund or re-booking, even though the reason for us having to cancel was entirely out of our hands. It’s the middle of winter (therefore the off-peak season) and a sign of good faith from the hotel to us would have been very welcome, even though the policy on their website is clear regarding their unwillingness to offer refunds at short notice.
