Everything was incredible from the moment we arrived. Early check in was available, the team arranged parking for our car. Had dinner both nights at the restaurant and can’t fault the food, my chef partner loved everything on the menu. Staff were so attentive and lovely. Scala de Faro is a small, historic boutique hotel in Chania, Crete. Because it is fairly small and is in a very old building, you will have to walk a flight of stairs to get to the rooms and the small elevator (although there is accommodation for the handicapped). The only minor quibbles would be the standard ones these days, namely the bathroom has a glass door which sounded like it was going to break any second, and the bathroom wall is also opaque so that privacy is not exactly 100% and also if you need to visit the bathroom at night, you wake up people trying to sleep. This is the worst hotel in Greece from Athens all the way to Heraklion in Crete to Chania. If you were in a three-star hotel for 1,000 a night, I would think you were pretty good, but if you said that you were in a five-star hotel for 2,400 a night, I would find it ridiculous. Great location in the heart of the old town, we were very happy with the large room with mezzanine bedroom and private terrace as well as a smart tv (not that we watched much) was great to connect to for music/news etc in the evenings. We spend two special night here. The rooms were well designed, the breakfast was superb, and the service was flawless. We stayed in History! The original stonework was kept when rebuilt. Stayed in the mosaic suite, absolutely stunning, big shower, very comfortable bed ( queen +) Double glazed windows so you don't hear the night life.
