Malvasia Traditional Hotel in Monemvasia

We chose this hotel because it was ranked number two on TripAdvisor and seemed like a good deal. Unfortunately, our experience was quite disappointing. When we arrived, we were given a very large room, but with an uncomfortably low ceiling. The floor was covered with dust and sand, and the extra blanket in the closet had a terrible smell, so we couldn’t use it. The biggest issue, however, was the location — the hotel is very, very far from the center of Monemvasia, which made it inconvenient to reach the main attractions. It also seems that the hotel is divided into two parts: one newly renovated and quite nice, and another older, unrenovated section. Unfortunately, our room was in the latter. None of this was clearly mentioned in the hotel’s description or in the message we received before our arrival. Overall, this stay did not meet our expectations.

I had mixed feelings about my stay at Malvasia Traditional Hotel. On the plus side, our room was very large with useful amenities, and breakfast was genuinely good—the breakfast area felt modern and well-furnished. That’s the main reason I’m not giving this 1 star. However, several basics missed the mark: • There was sand on the floor in all 3 areas when we arrived. • The closet spare cover had a strong odor, so we couldn’t use it. • The ceiling was very low; I banged my head several times (tall travelers, beware). • The shower had no curtain or screen, so the entire bathroom floor got soaked. • TripAdvisor photos show rooms with nicer furniture, but ours was dated, and the mattress wasn’t straight. Maybe other rooms are better, but consistency and upkeep need attention. Given these issues, I honestly don’t understand how this property is ranked #2. With improved housekeeping, better ventilation/closet fixes, a shower curtain or screen, and updated furniture/mattresses, this could be a much better stay.
