Der Waldhof in Lana

I stayed at Hotel der Waldhof with a friend this June and we had the best experience. The hospitality was warm and welcoming from the start. The pool is absolutely incredible and became our favorite place to relax after cycling. Hotel is surrounded by a little lake and outdoor wood area which makes workouts feel refreshing. The tennis courts are just a short walk away and are beautifully kept. Everything about the setting feels both active and peaceful. I’ll definitely be coming back, and I’ve shared some photos to show just how special it is here!

Special place above the beautiful city Merano. We stayed there in autumn. The colors of the end of the season are stunning. Very good food! You can see, smell and taste the hard work behind every dish. I totally recommend it for everyone. Stefan, the owner, is also a nice guy. Ask him for some insiders, you won't regret it.

First off, do NOT book the old rooms. I booked through a second party and had no idea until we showed up that there were rooms with no AC, really old gross bathrooms, and just unappealing. I immediately felt so uncomfortable in the room and regretted the crazy amount of money we spent! We ended up upgrading to the new building, for 500€. Thank goodness they had available rooms. I wanted to cancel on the spot when we walked into our first room. I could not believe that they charge so much for the old rooms, totally overpriced!! Also the WiFi does not work in the new building, very unfortunate because my husband needed to work, so he had to stand in a random place in the lobby to get enough WiFi to upload things for his business. Like others said, the pools were cold. We were there end of August, it was still decently warm yet not comfortable to swim in the infinity or indoor, let alone the outdoor. There’s a whirlpool inside but it’s cold, very odd. The new room we got upgraded to was beautiful, but it overlooked a parking lot, and we got woken up to cars/ trash truck at 4am which was annoying. The view is beautiful, staff was very nice. The town is wonderful and wasn’t too busy compared to other popular places. I would stay again but was disappointed with no hot tub/ warm enough swimming pool to enjoy. Food is very limited in the area, we traveled from USA so as we tried adjusting to the time zone, we were very hungry at times.

The hotel was absolutely wonderful! The facilities were excellent, and the food was beyond delicious – it instantly reminded me of my childhood and my grandmother’s cooking, made with fresh ingredients from her own garden. It felt so authentic and full of love, a true traditional experience. On top of that, the views were breathtaking, making the whole stay unforgettable

Wow, what a place. Of course, the infinity pool overlooking the old castle is absolutely unique and breathtaking - but beyond that, the whole area felt so peaceful. It’s tucked away in a beautiful, foresty and mountainous area that really makes you slow down. We stayed in their new hotel wing, which had these bright, sunny rooms with huge windows and a bathtub. The breakfast spread was amazing, and every night they had plenty of vegetarian options too, which we really appreciated. One of the highlights was the forest breakfast - they set up a table in the woods near the hotel, and it honestly felt magical. The staff were all so kind and welcoming. Just an all-around incredible stay. Highly recommend.

What a peaceful experience at Hotel der Waldhof. One of the highlights was definitely the forest breakfast, they set up a romantic little table in the woods right next to the hotel. So quiet and magical. That said, the regular breakfast and dinner setups already had such a beautiful ambiance, with a view over the valley from the terrace. There were plenty of vegetarian options and the food was incredible. The whole area is just stunning, with the infinity pool overlooking the castle ruins and valley. With an equally beautifully designed spa area in the middle of the forest that felt incredibly peaceful. Finally, the team was just so kind and made everything feel super relaxed and easy. Such a lovely stay.

Truly one of the best hotel experiences you could hope for. The views and location made it so tough to leave, we ended up extending our stay! Even the food was one of our favorite parts of the entire vacation, with some of the most amazing meals we’ve had in Europe. The cleanliness of the property, friendliness of staff, and all the amenities included with our stay including the sauna made this easily the best part of our trip and we look forward to returning!

My husband and I stayed at the Waldhof2 at the end of May, and we loved every minute of it! It’s managed with genuine warmth, blending heartfelt hospitality with sleek, modern comforts that make you feel instantly at home. The culinary experience was a highlight – outstanding dishes that masterfully combine local and Mediterranean influences, all crafted from high-quality local ingredients. The wine was exquisite, too! I loved relaxing in the Waldpark. The Edelstein Spa was an oasis of relaxation and the perfect place to disconnect. Last but not least, the infinity pool was simply breathtaking! I’m already trying to convince my husband to come back this winter.

Although somewhat adventurous to reach by public transportation, Der Waldhof is definitely worth the effort. Their very picturesque, Instagram-worthy pool with the perfect view over Mayenberg castle makes the first big impression but there is lots more to this place. The 32 degrees warm water in the pool can be enjoyed until seven o’clock in the evening. The rooms are very spacious and come with fantastic toiletries. And it is also quite the foody place with a thoughtfully selected dinner menu each evening and an incredible breakfast spread. It is probably not the cheapest place to stqy in the area but considering all the perks, it is worth the extra money.
