Country Relais la Mortella in Porto Ercole

We had mixed feelings about our stay at La Martella. Pros: Fantastic staff and excellent service. On arrival we were warmly welcomed and shown around the facility. Mariana was fantastic with ideas of what to do in the area and visits to nearby villages. Mariana also gave excellent restaurant recommendations. Excellent breakfast with good selection of freshly baked goods. Everything seemed fresh and local. Anita and Massimo were very gracious hosts. Beautifully manicured grounds and a swimming pool, although we did not use that. Wonderful views of the surrounding mountains and golf course. Cons: Although labeled as Porto Ercole, La Mortella is quite far from the town and not close to the other towns in the area. The room was disappointing. It was quite large, but it felt very dated and worn. An update was sorely needed. Air conditioning was very effective. The area is quite expensive and La Mortella seemed pricey for the level of accommodation.
