We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The location is excellent — it is a true ski-in/ski-out hotel right on the slope, which makes everything extremely convenient. The heated ski room was a great bonus, and having ski equipment rental available directly at the hotel was very practical. The service was very good, and the food was delicious. The rooms could use some renovation, but they were clean and tidy. It was quite warm in the room and the air felt rather dry, though keeping the window open helped a lot.

We had high hopes for our holiday as the reviews were good and as always a handful of bad reviews but I thought on the whole it was probably reflective of its good review rating and decided to give it a go! Well I’m not entirely sure how the review rating is so high as we knew within the first few hours of being in the hotel that it is somewhere we would never come to again. After speaking with some fellow British travellers they were all of the same opinion. My description would be Butlins of the ski world! If you have kids and you let your kids do what they like then great! BUT for anyone else it is a pure week of headaches! The noise level in the restaurant is nothing I have ever encountered, you cannot hear yourself think, kids are running around the tables and the food area waiving half eaten croissant’s about and smearing Nutella over their faces like a face painting competition. The food is buffet style and is never hot, always luke warm or cold! There is a massive range of food and to be fair some of it is very nice! Just not hot enough. The tea urn is never hot so you get tepid tea all week. The pool is very small and filled with kids and you have to pay for towels if you don’t bring one with you! The gym area is an afterthought as it is behind the chairs in the swimming pool area. The hotel itself is dated, but our room was not too bad and the water was hot. It was on floor 1 which is hard to find from reception as you take a lift from 5 to 4, then walk the entire floor to a lift at the other end and then take a lift to floor 1, and stairs in every direction no matter where you go. We had to pay €30 euros for our ski locker which we have never had to do before. Add on the local tax and the insurance for our lift passes and we’ve spent €100 euros before we even start. The staff were pleasant as was the rep from Crystal Ski. It was a shame they didn’t have enough people for the ski away day, so that was cancelled. A shame as it would have broken the week up a bit. Pila itself is very quiet and from 6pm onwards it’s like a ghost town. The bars are either shut or hardly anybody in them. There was Apres outside the hotel on a Thursday which was very good, a shame it was only once a week and another few bars were open for Apres but nothing amazing. Getting around Pila is also difficult, we encountered a couple walking round the road asking us where Pila centre was…erm you’re in it! We had boarded pretty much the whole area within the first two to three days so not much variation after that. To be brutally honest Pila is not for us and not somewhere we would come back to as it just doesn’t quite meet our needs or offer what other bigger resorts do.

ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING There are so many things wrong with this hotel that I could write an essay on it. Rude staff especially the reception team Too busy at breakfast lunch and dinner times Who ever came up with just 90 minutes to feed the whole hotel should be sacked for just that suggestion Rooms are awful and from 80s The Pool is awful EVERYTHING about this hotel is rubbish

Arrival experience is very bad. Arrived with the car in a tunnel and difficult to understand what to do. Leave the car? Wait? Unload luggages? Assistance is not sufficient. Garage is difficult to find. Narrow. In bad conditions. Rooms are from 80's.. with carpet on the floor. Not a clean feeling. Dinner experience is very bad. Noisy. Too busy. Breakfast the same. With orange juice extra 5 euro. Serious?? Bar in the evening is too expensive. Too many rules for accessing the pool, the gym for limited time. Too much burucracy. Guest experience is awful. My expectations, according to the commercials were much higher. I will leave bad review in all the platforms.

We arrived early afternoon and were issued with rooms keys by a surly receptionist. We were directed to the lift seeking level two. No such button! Returned to reception for more guidance. Eventually, help arrived and we were taken into an underworld cavern involving getting out at level three and then a corridor walk to a set of stairs leading to level two. My head nearly hitting the concrete beams above. Eventually we were presented with the most dismal room 201. A view of a wall and not much else. My wife and I are not in our Spring of youth and we had to carry our 20 kg bag plus our cabin bag through this labrynth subterranean world. My adult son’s room 202, was slightly better. Having spent almost 4000 euros for this experience, I was not happy. Back to the surly receptionist! I asked for a room change, explaining that at 81 years of age I was not happy with the room and its location. She was not helpful. Only when a senior member of staff appeared did things happen. Eventually we were relocated to room 817. This was away from the noise of the theatre and had a view of the slopes. The room was clean but not exceptional with mould in the shower and an emergency pull switch covered in black mould. Hot water took forever to become Luke warm never mind hot. That evening dinner was pure mayhem. Too many tables filling the space. Buffet food with the usual scramble to get food. Noise levels were unbearable. Breakfast was similar with the juice machines running dry plus the usual scramble. At this point, we have been here less than 24 hours and I have requested a hotel change. As far as I know, the hotel has no outdoor seating areas to relax and have a drink in the sun. The walk to the centre is via a road tunnel downhill there and uphill back. A long walk. Or you could risk walking down the slippery slope. To use the hotel recreational facilities there is the pantomime of apps and QR codes. Plus charging for towels etc. In my long life I have organised over 100 ski trips for groups and families and can honestly say that this is my worst experience. I have skied east and west coast USA, Italy, Spain, Andorra,Austria, Switzerland, Bulgaria and Romania! My wife and I are still in the hospitality business so we put these comments to you with a professional eye.

I've just returned from a week at TH Pila. We made a mistake booking this as it is family friendly and we didn't go with children. There are children running riot everywhere so def don't go if you don't have kids with you. Positives The location is excellent, you can ski almost into the boot room and the ski hire shop is next to the boot room. You can ski out down to one of the main lifts or onto the baby pila magic carpet and up to the funicular. very easy and accessible to get back for lunch too - we didn't think we would bother but it was so easy we did most days. The beds are comfy with nice clean bedding and the shower was powerful and hot Negatives That's where the positives end... Food - The dining experience is carnage, you have to go on the first day at 5pm to be allocated a table. The head waiter just shouted 'Name?' at us and then we were shown to our table. Luckily we had one out of the way of the buffet. I couldn't cope it we had one right in the middle. It is open for 1.5 hours each meal and hundreds of people are fighting through to get to their food. The food on first look seems like a great range and something for everyone but it is at best tepid. nothing was hot. The hot water for tea and coffee in the morning was not hot and tea and coffee weren't available at lunch and dinner. Rooms - the rooms were very tired, with limited facilities, no kettle, no tissues, towels and bedding were not replaced all week. The cleaners literally emptied the bin and pulled the quilt up. We had to ask for more toilet roll as this wasn't replenished. The carpet was mouldy and the bathroom was so dated and stained (see pics) Service - the waiting staff were basically table cleaners who would point you in the direction of anything you needed if asked. They were friendly enough but stood and chatted and played on their phone the majority of the time. The rest of the staff were fairly rude and unhelpful apart from the ski hire room who were very helpful and super friendly. Kids - there are kids running around everywhere with many families having no discipline over them. We were nearly knocked over with drinks as they were running around the lobby areas screaming and no parents to be seen and no staff asking them to stop. Finally, a random and minor point. You can't get your case to the front door without carrying it up or down a small flight of stairs. I think this is lucky to have a 3 star rating and I'm surprised Crystal promote it. The Crystal rep we did have was amazing though, very informative, friendly and helpful.
