Masseria Fontana di Vite in Matera

We stayed here for 3 nights, and had the entire Gattini Suite plus 1 Junior Suite. There are MANY positives and only really BIG CON.

PROS: Beautiful suites, great breakfast (including gluten free options), great service (especially Carmella!), nice pool, parking, good espresso, and even horses and a donkey.

CONS: barking and howling dog(s).

We loved the place except that we look for a hotel in order to have restful sleep. Unfortunately we were woken up on 2 consecutive mornings by a very loud, howling and barking dog. We were woken up at 5:55am one day and 6:14am the next day. The dog howled and barked at more than one time. The first morning was 5:55, 6:10, 6:20. The second morning was 6:14 and 6:30 AM- and the barking/howling went for at least 1+ minute.

While I wanted to give this place a 5 star review- I can't because of the lack of restful sleep. When I brought this to the attention of the front desk I was told (the first day) that it was someone from "another Masseria" who walks his dog and on the 2nd day I showed a video of the dog barking and it was a dog from Masseria Fontane di Vite- I was told that nothing could be done- it's not good for the dogs to be inside when it's hot (which I understand). But it seemed very nonchalant response after spending 2700€ there.

So if you want a beautiful place at which you may not be able to sleep past 6am- then this is your place.
