My wife and I arrived in Civitavecchia two days prior to our cruise departure. We had heard great reviews about the Hotel San Giorgio from other cruisers. I did my research and could find no reason that I should pass up this opportunity to experience the property for ourselves.
I contacted the hotel desk a few weeks ahead of our arrival to arrange transportation from FCO to the hotel. We were met at the airport by a professional driver who handled our luggage and dropped us at the hotel, even unloading our bags for us.
Our arrival was early, and we set out to discover this new city. We arrived back at check in and found our bags had been taken up to our room (220) which had a fantastic view of the water from our window. We were told breakfast was included in our lodging and the hours of operation.
The hotel is charming with a great location in the heart of the port city. The morning breakfast and coffees were an added bonus. Our room was comfortable and allowed us to recover from a transatlantic flight and adjust to the time changes.
On the day of our departure for the port, Mette (lovely lady from Denmark) at the desk helped us with the hotel's shuttle service (minimal fee) to the port. This is an important benefit as the hotel has the proper credentials that allow delivery of passengers directly to the ship's terminal, not just inside the gate of the port.
All in all, Hotel San Giorgio met or exceeded our expectations as we booked this sight unseen. You can be certain that we will be staying here again for our cruise in 2026 and any time after that where Civitavecchia is on the itinerary.

Staff and room were great. The one downside was that the restaurant wasn't open. It's a great restaurant and we were looking forward to eating there again.

Staff not helpful, dirty carpets, crack in tub w/leaks, sofa arm broken, room old & tired definitely not higher than 2 rating.

The front desk person was always on the phone. We were in the middle of checking in and the phone rings and we have to wait for 5 minutes. Same exact thing happened to us when we checked out. He wasn’t helpful about ways to get to the port earlier and we tried to cancel our shuttle. He claimed he didn’t know how to process a credit???

The bed was very comfortable but the room was dark, musty and smelled damp. Difficult to open the shutters which are high and very dirty to touch. Couldn't leave window open to air room as on ground floor. First impression of room was looking at threads hanging down from the stairs to the bedroom- looked like cobwebs at first - could be easily remedied. No explair in bathroom- not good.

OUTDATED to say the least. The hotel overall feels old, damp, and poorly maintained, with visible humidity and a musty smell on the ceilings and walls. The carpet is worn and gives an unclean impression, and the shower floods the bathroom floor even when closed. Yes it's close to the port but don't have any expectation of a good nights sleep. Bed on the top floor bathroom on the lower so get ready to make a midnight walk. Never again. Stay in Rome it's an hour drive.
The Wi-Fi is extremely slow, making even simple online tasks difficult. Another surprising detail: even still water is not included — it is charged separately. I had never seen that in any hotel, regardless of how simple.
The only positive aspect was the friendly and attentive service in the restaurant.
Overall, the experience was disappointing. The hotel does not deliver what it promises nor uphold the standards expected for its price and rating. Unfortunately, I would not stay here again.

Look elsewhere! This hotel is tired in every way - furniture, carpet, paint, showers, etc. Beyond that, we had to climb up and down an open staircase to get to the bed from the bathroom. Suboptimal if you have an aging bladder. We stayed here for one night prior to our cruise departure thinking we were checking into a 4-star hotel. It’s 2 stars at best.

The room felt dirty. Big brown something on the carpet as soon as you walked in. Floor in bathroom was not cleaned. Black ??? Around shower. Overall the room was not cleaned. Elevator was disguising. Filthy! I will not be going back. Staff was very nice.

This is the worst place I have ever booked a room. We booked here 10 months ago and paid in full cash. They contacted our travel agent 3 days before departure and said we have no room. We paid in full 10 Months ago and gave our room away. Then they put us in a room way up in the hills. This bed and breakfast was nothing even close to what we paid for in the first place. Then thier shuttle came and picked up 1 couple and left us there at the B&B for over hour half waiting. Then after pestering the lady about the ride to the ship. She called again and said they did t come look for you at the B&B. The. Waiting 1 hour more in a small lobby, a uber finally showed up and took us to port. I highly recommend never using this place if it’s the last place in Europe, absolutely terrible not sure how many negative stars can give this place. This is the worst we have ever been treated
