Il Castello Hotel in Santa Margherita

At first, I was just going to write a simple review that this hotel is not The Four Seasons, it is not the Rosewood, and it is not a Ritz and just needs a wash! However, after being here for only two nights, I realize that it is not just the unkemptness of the hotel, but the sheer disgracefulness of being dated and dirty. Not to mention multiple (most every) restaurants being closed, “because it is not in season“, and the one or two that are open are completely booked! The beach looks like a Cat 5 hurricane went through it, with cinderblocks on it, forget a lounge chair with a cushion or a towel!. Most of the kid oriented activities are closed, the soccer fields are being used for equipment to hold bikes. It is beyond disgraceful. The only positive thing I could say is that the stuff is trying to make up for it, but the ownership of this property and the people in charge should be ashamed of themselves. If you are not a part of a convention, do not come here! I promise you save your money!

This has been the least clean hotel I have ever stayed in. I changed rooms twice, yet both were dirty — rubbish left from previous guests, hair everywhere, even chewed gum in one. A “fresh” robe had someone else’s hair on it. The overall cleanliness is shocking: dirty floors, dishes with food stains, and bathrooms that are never properly cleaned. The spa pool, which you pay extra for, is never maintained. On our first day, the sea was full of debris; it only improved after many complaints. Service is virtually non-existent. For the high price charged, I expected a luxury experience, but this was nowhere near. This resort should be rated no more than 3 stars, and worth a maximum of €300 per night. The only positives are the well-kept gardens and the entertainment for children. Everything else was a huge disappointment.
