Reviews
For context, we are two middle-aged women traveling light, with hand luggage, coming to Riga to enjoy art galleries, museums, and Michelin-rated restaurants — not to host wild parties. We had a lovely stay, until we got home and received an unexpected charge: €150 for “damaged walls.” No prior warning. No detailed explanation. Just a cold invoice.
When we asked for clarification, the hotel sent a video recorded by housekeeping, showing some wall scuff marks above the TV and in other areas — which we saw for the first time in that footage. In dim evening light, it’s easy to overlook minor wear and tear, especially if you’re not scrutinizing walls after a long day.
Let this be a warning: unless you want to pay for pre-existing damage, document the entire room upon check-in — loose wallpaper, scratched furniture, cracked tiles, even stained towels. Take photos. Or bring a notary, just in case.
If we had actually caused damage — held a wild party, danced on the furniture — we would’ve taken responsibility without complaint. But this baseless accusation and the way it was handled felt like a slap in the face. Honestly, it ruined an otherwise enjoyable trip.
We’re only thankful they didn’t charge us for the broken closet doors too.
A disappointing and humiliating experience. Sadly, we cannot recommend this hotel.
Another plus is the excellent location. The hotel is located in the heart of Riga, literally within walking distance of the Old Town, close to cafes, shops and attractions. This is convenient, especially if you plan to explore the city on foot.
Of the minuses - we got a room on the ground floor with a "view to nowhere": the window faced directly on the wall of the neighbouring building, and, to be honest, it spoiled the overall impression of living a little. There was little light in the room, and the feeling of isolation was a little stressful. Perhaps it is worth clarifying when booking that the room is on the top floor or at least with a normal view.
Otherwise, the hotel left a pleasant impression: clean, comfortable, breakfast with a good selection, and the overall quality of service at the level. I think we would consider the possibility of staying here again - taking into account the nuances.
The room was basic, quiet & comfortable (could do with a thorough cleaning though).
Breakfast was acceptable with 2 downsides;
1. during our 4-day stay we couldn’t have the strawberry smoothie which was only available to early birds: it did annoy me!
2. The coffee was just terrible; for coffee lovers like me “be warned”.
I could not fault the staff.
