Fez Dar in Fes

The whole place is very fishy and shady, the atmosphere is somehow not good and not comfortable.
The address on Booking is not correct, instead, the place's own website has the correct address. We only got to know it after texting back and forth on WhatsApp with (supposedly) the owner.
Even though on Booking the place has a 9.1* review, the rooms' walls were moldy, water was dripping off the ceiling, the towels were dirty, the bed linen was also dirty, and the worst of it was that it was very cold in the night.
In the night, we turned the AC on, but when we set it to a higher level, it shut down all electricity for the entire house.
Breakfast was also included, but it was likely some microwaved leftover pastries sadly.
If you want to go to a simple place to sleep at night, it is okay. But if you want anything more, please avoid this place when staying in Fez.

We booked this Riad through Booking.com and were confirmed for a Quadruple room. However, when we got to the Riad, there was no one to open the door. After waiting for 30 minutes outside in the cold, a receptionist showed up. After speaking to someone on the phone, he informed us that the room we were assigned had a problem with the shower and we had to move to a different place called Riad Shauala. Upon reaching Riad Shauala, we were asked to pay for the entire accommodation in cash and cancel the original Booking.com reservation. This seemed very shady and was clearly an organized scam to cut off Booking.com from the picture. We did not argue because all of us were tired and it was late in the night and we desperately wanted to sleep. Avoid this Riad at all costs.

Really sorry about this one star review. It truly breaks my heart to be greeted on Christmas Day by AGGRESSIVE staff. Our room apparently has a problem with the shower but he (Mohamed) doesn’t even show us the shower!!! EXTREMELY FISHY !!! Do not trust this place!! We just arrived in a beautiful Fes and this is how we are treated. In addition, Mohamed makes gender based comments to other tourists who have the same problem as us!! DISGUSTED !!!! Do not stay here!!

We booked online in booking.com under the name Riad Fes Zayna, however we have been pointed out to Riad Fez Dar. They led us to the riad from the Blue Gate, but no one helped us with the heavy luggage. Upon arriving they grabbed my phone, telling me that they need to check my booking details, but when i got my phone back, i have noticed that they cancelled the booking! Feels so fishy! When i confronted them about it, they said its because they need to give us a bigger room for the same price - however when that has happened in the past in other places, there was absolutely no need to cancel the reservation. I suspect they either do that to cheapen out on commissions to booking or to protect themselves from bad reviews. The hotel staff told us he will help us buy something from the market for good price and he led us to his uncle's store. The price we were told was very expensive in comparison to other places we visited in the market. On the upside - they allowed us to leave our stuff on the reception after checkout. Also, the room is neat and smells so good! The place is strategic, as well, inside the medina and near the cafe clock, plus not too far from blue gate! Feel fishy at first time but because there's some good things too about this place so it is tolerable!
