Reviews
If you wanted a hot breakfast it was nearly always cold and not of the greatest quality. The one occasion I was there when they brought hot eggs out, they were sadly congealed and not at all freshly cooked. On the plus side, there was a wide selection of fruits, cereals, seeds, yoghurt, cheeses and hams to compensate the poor hot food. Also the staff at breakfast were always very pleasant and helpful (reception, take note!).
Our maid was exceptional (room 431 16/01 through to 22/01). She always greeted us with a smile and always had our room prepared for our return after breakfast. She was a real credit to the hotel.
Our room was comfortable and quiet though we couldn’t get any response from the air con / heating control when we attempted. The beds were very comfortable and the linen was ‘top notch’.
The restaurant "Nervio by Periko Ortega" serves fresh delicious seafood dishes, and the service is just perfect. Restaurant staff would regularly check with me if the food is to my liking. Breakfast at The Level Lounge geta a little crowded but you will be greeted by the friendly receptionist on the 6th floor before entering the lounge. She asked me how was my night? Did I sleep well?
The Level Lounge has a great view of the Alhambra, and the breakfast is pretty good. Location of this hotel is good, close to the cathedral and walking distance to Albaicin. Many restaurants around this area as well.
Now for some cons of this hotel. The lights in the corridors of every floor are turned dimmed by default. They only light up when you step into the area. This lends a really creepy and frightening experience whenever you step out of the elevator, because you're staring down a dark and lonely corridor. I don't feel at ease or safe at all. It's very unsettling, and I had to dash to my room every time.
The door of my room can't lock properly. When I try to close it from the outside, it won't lock. I can still push it open without using my key card. It takes multiple attempts of slamming the door shut to get it to lock. The Suites of The Level, oddly enough are located on the first floor, facing the streets. Thankfully the soundproofing is good enough to keep out most of the traffic sound.
Would I recommend this hotel? Yes, especially if you're willing to fork out the extra cash for the Level rooms. 5 stars for the great service but I have to take away 1 star because of the cons mentioned above.
Modern, clean, and well-maintained rooms, with a fantastic walk-in shower in the bathroom.
Elegant common areas and a well-designed The Level lounge, with both indoor and outdoor spaces, offering a stunning view over the entire city, reserved for TheLevel guests.
Breakfast has everything you need, nicely presented and with a good variety.
The Nervio restaurant by Periko Ortega, located inside the hotel, offers traditional dishes with a contemporary twist as well as more modern creations. Excellent quality, flavorful dishes, and top-level service.
Overall, the staff is exceptionally friendly and always smiling, reflecting the high standards consistently found across Meliá Hotels. Highly recommended.
I chose several Meliá hotels during my Spain trip to experience a trusted Spanish brand. But after staying here, I canceled all my other Meliá bookings. The reason was simple — the reception was shockingly rude, especially a staff member named Elda.
Everything else about the hotel was fine. The rooms were clean, the lounge was great, and the location was convenient. But the reception completely ruined the experience.
Elda never greeted me. She didn’t confirm my booking details or explain anything about the room or hotel services. The first thing she said was that I needed to provide another credit card if I wanted to check in. Only after I asked did she mention it was for a deposit.
Afterward, I checked Google reviews and saw that this issue has been mentioned for years, yet nothing has changed. It’s disappointing because all other staff members were kind and professional — except the reception.
