Villa Surf Beach in Galle

TOOO000000000000000000000000000000000000000 SMALL ROOM .. NO SPACE FOR LUGGAGE .. HARDLY HAVE ROOM TO STAND. HORRID .. NO AND DISAPPEARING RECEPTION .. MOST HORRBLE ROOM EVER BOOKED IN 50 YEARS. THE PLACE IS ALSO HAVING WORK RENOVATION .. SIMPLY THE BEST HORRID PLACE IN THE WORLD ! COME HERE !

Had the most pathetic experience in this hotel.
1. AC's were not working. On multiple complaints, and after they called a technician, the AC barely started chilling. We even tried changing the rooms but guess what? The AC's were not working in those rooms too. We had no option but to stay.
2. The water in the bath area had almost zero pressure (pretty much coming out in droplets). Hence, couldn't take a bath for the 2 days we stayed there.
3. Water bottles are not given complimentary even for a single day.
4. The hygiene was extremely questionable.
5. Very small and congested place. It's less of a hotel more like a cheap inn/motel.
6. The 2bhk apartment has 2 extremely claustrophobic rooms (you can't even fit your luggage inside). The outside living area has no AC which makes the apartment pointless because when you want to sit together and relax in the heat you actually can't even sit in the living area because it's so hot.
7. To top it all, the owner is EXTREMELY RUDE and doesn't take criticism well at all. Infact he actually told me that all AC's were working before we checked in and he got irritated with me why I'm having trouble with the AC. (When his staff is telling him that I'm right and the ac's are not working)
8. My room did not have a curtain, hence 6am is the max till when we could sleep!

All in all, it was an absolutely pathetic experience. Totally skippable. It's not even that it's cheap. For 12000 LKR, you can get 50 more stay options far far better than this one. IF YOU WANT TO SAVE YOUR TRIP DO NOT STAY HERE!! NOT AT ALL RECOMMENDED!

I’ve stayed at Villa Surf Beach twice now once during peak season (March) and more recently in the off-season, and I want to share both the good and the not-so-good from my experiences.

✨ The Good:
My first stay was really beautiful. I was there with two of my friends, and we booked a sea-view room. The vibe was peaceful — we’d sit on the balcony at night, listen to the waves, and talk for hours. The location is definitely one of the highlights. Waking up to the sound of the ocean and having that view is something special.

😬 The Not-So-Good (Off-Season Experience):
Unfortunately, my second stay wasn’t as smooth. While I booked a sea-view room again, a few things really went wrong:
• I actually got locked inside the room — yes, from the inside. I had the key but couldn’t open it. It had to be opened from the outside. I had to call someone, slide the key under the door, and wait for them to come unlock it. That should definitely be fixed.
• The room next door had a group playing extremely loud music, and I could hear things banging around for hours — not ideal when you’re trying to rest.
• The most serious issue: I was asked to leave my key at the front desk, and I agreed — which was a big mistake. I had some emergency cash (20,000 LKR) hidden in a small side pocket of my camera bag. After returning, I realized it had been stolen. No one else had access to the room except hotel staff, and they had entered the room twice while I was away. I’m 100% certain that’s when it happened.
• Also, when I wasn’t there, a friend came to visit me and was in the room with the key. During that time, a man who claimed to work at the hotel knocked on the door and begged for money. My friend gave him 500 LKR, but he kept asking for more. That felt really uncomfortable and unprofessional.

🔍 Final Thoughts:
The location is stunning, and if you’re going during the season, it can be a peaceful and lovely stay. But I strongly recommend that management improves security, room privacy, and staff boundaries with guests. Being locked in, losing money, and having someone beg at your door are serious red flags, even if everything else looks good on the surface.

With a bit more care and professionalism, Villa Surf Beach could be an amazing stay. But as of now, I would say enjoy the view, but be cautious.

Not a bad hotel, but I lost 100 dollars in my room, perhaps this is the saddest moment of the trip, well located by the ocean, and you can go surfing nearby, not very convenient to get to the airport
