We enjoyed a 3 night stay at Villa Gaetano. It’s in a quiet area away from the main resort of Unawatuna which is what we wanted. There are a few restaurants within walking/tuk tuk distance as well and the accommodation offers dinner options although we didn’t have dinner there. We did have breakfast each morning which was a mix of Western and Sri Lankan, slightly different each morning, tasty and generous. On arrival we received a refreshing welcome drink and greeted by Melani and her friendly staff. She told us we had been upgraded which was a lovely surprise. Our room was spacious with a large bathroom, air conditioning, a hairdryer, fridge and kettle.The pool area is clean and well maintained and an enjoyable place to relax and cool off. Extra towels are provided. The garden area is beautiful and relaxing. The main town/beach area is about a mile away and accessible by walking along the main road or tuk tuk. There are nearby train stations Unawatuna (walkable) and Talpe (650 in a tuk tuk). We took a train to Galle from Unawatuna which was very cheap (20 LKR each) and only 2 stops. We used pick me on arrival to the accommodation but Melani organised our tuk tuk to Talpe when we checked out. Payment is cash only

Our first time and first stop in Sri Lanka. I can not praise this gem enough. We were greeted and very well taken care of by Melanie and her family. It felt like coming home for me. My family had a great stay. Melanie's food was cooked from her heart.
Location is great and close Gale, beaches etc.

Honestly couldn’t fault our stay at the villa gaetano from the moment we arrived we were looked after. Very peaceful location and the property and grounds were well looked after lovely big room and great overall atmosphere. The family and everyone that worked there were so kind and nothing was ever too much they really make you feel at home. Breakfast was also great and we will definitely be staying with them again when we return the location was perfect for us and they also helped with tuk tuk transport throughout and also helped us get a taxi to our next destination. Well worth the stay we were sad to leave as everyone that worked there was so nice was a great start to our trip definitely recommend.

I had a wonderful stay here for two nights. The place is very peaceful and quiet, perfect for me as I am sensitive to noise and usually have trouble sleeping — but I slept very well here.
The room was spacious, clean, comfortable, and well equipped.
The family running the place is incredibly kind and welcoming.
The breakfast was excellent!
For my first days in Sri Lanka, this stay exceeded my expectations.

We stayed at Villa Gaetano in Unawatuna as a group of four (two couples) for four nights, and we truly wished we could have stayed longer if our travel plans had allowed it. From the moment we arrived, the hosts made us feel like part of their family — warm, caring, and genuinely welcoming.

The property has a beautiful, homely atmosphere with a lovely pool, peaceful nature all around, and animals that make the place feel even more special. The food was absolutely delicious, homemade with so much love, and we enjoyed every meal. We also loved the quiet spot that was perfect for yoga and relaxing.

Because of the location, renting a scooter is definitely recommended to explore the area comfortably.

The hospitality at Villa Gaetano was heartfelt and exceptional. We left feeling relaxed, cared for, and incredibly grateful for our stay. We can highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a warm, family-like, and authentic experience in Unawatuna.

Great little boutique hotel run by family Beautiful gardens and very warm hospitality Few mosquitoes but the staff were very helpful and put the mosquito coils which worked like a treat The breakfast selection was huge with a mix of Sri Lankan and western and delicious Nice pool to chill in Saw few different birds monitor lizards squirrels and purple face Langur monkeys in the hotel gardens- living harmoniously with nature

Lovely, peaceful surroundings, enjoy wildlife- we saw monkeys, birds, an iguana and squirrels, in the lovely gardens. Rooms were spacious, clean and cool. We had dinner and breakfast on site and both were plentiful and yummy. The pool was lovely for a relaxing swim. Highly recommend.

Ive been coming to Srilanka for years and this is by far the friendliest most reasonably priced hotel in Unawatuna. Our room was spacious, well designed and clean, the gardens are beautiful and there is a pool.

This is the best pleaces around Unawatuna. The owners are amazing, food is delicious. If You are looking for quiet, green pleaces with swimming pool. This is pleaces for You!

The estate is very nice. Well maintained. Closed, safe and clean.
Breakfast is very good and the owner will bring what you want in amounts you please. Pancakes with coconut chutney, Dahl curry, toast with jam, nice fruit and coffee. One day we asked dinner - curry was very good.
Swimming pool is nice and safe, surrounded by palm trees.
What lowers the score is the owner who is extremely commercial and a bit imposing. I don't like such style. His daughter Melanie is much more discrete. The owner is nice, don't get me wrong but he wants to make money in every corner and that is simply displeasing - transit, money exchange, tuk tuk. We always found better offers than what he proposed. Just be mindful and make your choice after reseach.
At the end of the day I recommend Villa Gaetano. Good breakfast, clean rooms, nice estate and swimming pool. But the owner with his commitment to making money makes this experience a bit less of what it could be.
