Royal Classic Resort in Kandy

We only stayed one night at this hotel. The room was large with a balcony & view to the front of the hotel which was nice. The towels weren’t of the best hotel quality and had the maids long black hair on them and the pillows, but were serviceable. The bed was clean & comfortable. The remote control for the TV was held together with cello tape and the batteries were changed by the receptionist, when it didn’t turn the TV on . When speaking to the manager late in the evening about the poor quality, he offered a room change, we declined because it was too late at night and as we said we are only here for 1 night. The problem was the evening meal. Because there were so few guests staying you only had the choice of the attached set menu. As each dish arrived, it was cold. We sent the soup back twice and the main meal once. There was no wine or spirits available to have with our meal. The only alcoholic drink was lager. Not what you would expect from an alleged 4 star hotel. Breakfast in the morning was buffet style and it was absolutely excellent. There was lots of choice and all warm. Completely different experience from the night before. This looks a lovely hotel from the outside but on the inside it is a little tired. The staff are all very polite and nothing is too much trouble.
