White Sand Beach Resort in Chang Island

An awful experience. On the surface things seemed fine - the room was spacious and the aircon worked well. There was quite a lot of noise coming from the bar next door but I expected that from the reviews and so it didnt bother me.

The trouble started at night when a huge cockroach emerged out of nowhere. I killed it and went to the reception to ask them to remove it and spray some bug spray in the room.

Not long after that another huge cockroach emerged. I went back to the reception to ask for help but the lady working there was getting ready to go home and didnt want to know. She rudely handed me the bug spray she used earlier and proceeded to pack her bag.

I went back to the room to deal with the problem only to find a number of small cockroaches crawling in the bathroom and a couple of big cockroaches dead on the floor. By this point the reception lady was gone and there was noone to assist me. I spent the rest of the night killing bugs in a room full of toxic fumes from the bug spray I was forced to use.

The next morning I asked for a refund and moved to another resort. The receptionist was visibly displeased by my complain and only refunded me for the upcoming night. No apologies were given at any point.

It was one of the worst places Ive ever stayed in. I appreciate that bugs are common in tropical countries but this was just too much. The staff was extremely rude and unhelpful and the fact that there is noone at the reception after 10pm doesn't help.

Dissapointing, booked last minute for a rather high price during Songkran, which is understandable, but room was in disrepair. No way to control the aircon, could only be turned off by removing room key from socket. No hot water and leaking toilet. All of these issues would have existed already before but yet no solution was offered as the "handyman was not available right now" but conveniently only tomorrow after we'd need to check out. At checkout we voiced our dissapointments in English and Thai, but were completely ignored as the receptionist continued her web browsing after returning our deposit. The location was pretty good, plenty of bars and food next door as well as a friendly evening crew. Two stars for location and room size, breakfast was limited.

The hotel has dated, old looking rooms and a general 'past it's glory days' feel to it. But alright, it has a decent sized bed and the rooms aren't crazy small.

There is no wifi connection in the rooms, near the beach or at the pool. The signal seems to be too weak for any of our devices to connect (phones, laptops). Yes, it is on an island but if you go to any random coffee shop you'll have free decently fast wifi. The other resort we stayed at on this island also had a perfect connection all the way from the parking spots to the beachfront. Why can this not be the case here?

There is a cafe/restaurant at the hotel next to the beach which is nice, but the prices for the food are rediculous. We decided to have 2 pizzas to share for lunch, because we were tired and not in the mood for looking for another place to eat, and they told us it was happy hour. This means you get 10% off any 'food' you order. But after we ate and got the bill, they told us pizzas are apparently not food and the discount isn't valid on pizzas. Right.

Considering there are a multitude of beautiful and cheap hotels and eateries on the island, I would never recommend staying in this hotel or eating here. It's just not worth the price. There are way better accomodations to be found on the island and cheaper and better restaurants are bountiful.
