Absolutely unacceptable stay — broken promises, constant noise, and zero integrity.

I am staying at The Grand Bristol by Sunday, and this has been an extremely disappointing and frustrating experience. From 6:00 PM until almost midnight, there has been a loud, constant mechanical noise outside my room. It feels like I am staying directly above an engine or industrial machine, making any rest impossible.

On the first night, I contacted the front desk and was told the noise was coming from the kitchen ventilation system. I was explicitly promised that the ventilation would NOT be turned on the following day. That promise was a key reason I agreed to stay.

However, the next evening, the exact same noise started again. The kitchen ventilation was turned on despite their clear promise. This is not just poor service — this is dishonesty. I can no longer trust anything the front desk says.

To make matters worse, I booked two rooms for two nights, paying nearly £500, and both rooms suffer from the same unbearable noise. This is clearly a known issue, and yet the hotel continues to sell these rooms without warning guests.

At this price point, guests expect comfort, quiet, and reliability. Instead, I received broken promises, constant noise, and complete disregard for guest experience. This stay is nowhere near worth £500.

If you value sleep, honesty, or basic professionalism, avoid this hotel.

Review of Bristol Sunday Hotel – Issue with Double Charging and Service

I recently stayed at Bristol Sunday Hotel on 22 January 2026, and I encountered several issues that I would like to share.

Upon arrival, I was asked to pay for my stay and did so, believing my initial payment had not gone through. I was charged approximately £79.00 (£60 for the room and £19 for parking). However, the next morning, I was refused breakfast and told I had not paid for it. After reviewing my bank statements and emails, I discovered I had already paid around £76.00 on 26 December 2025 via OYO (£52 for the room and £24 for two breakfasts).

Despite having overpaid, I was refused breakfast, and the staff were unable to resolve the issue at the time. Given my overpayment, I believe I am entitled to a refund for the duplicate charge (£76.00) and the parking fee (£19.00).

I was given an email from Reception to be able to contact the hotel manager directly to resolve this issue, but my emails were returned as ‘address not found,’

Overall, I am disappointed with the handling of this situation and the lack of proper customer service. I hope the hotel takes steps to improve their billing and communication processes. And refunds me

We had an amazing stay at The Grand in Bristol. The hotel is comfortable and welcoming. The staff were all fantastic, without exception. The breakfast was very good, with an excellent choice. Our room was clean and there were plenty of towels.
We were a bit worried before we visited as the hotel was under new management since we had booked it and there were some negative reviews online. However, our fears were dispelled and we would definitely return to The Grand.
The hotel is perfectly situated for exploring Bristol and it has a car park next door which was very convenient.

I stayed at this hotel for two nights, and it was not a good experience . The room I was given was tiny and extremely dated, especially compared to other hotels in the area.

Positives:
• The only redeeming feature was that the window could open partially to let in some fresh air.

Negatives:
• The carpet was dirty and looked like it hadn’t been cleaned properly in ages.
• There was a constant smell of mould in the room.
• Cobwebs were in the corners of the bathroom walls and floor.
• Mould was visible in the grout around the bathtub and sink.
• The toilet flush barely worked.
• The extractor fan didn’t work, leaving the bathroom very humid.
• The pillows were awful, and the bed springs were digging into my back.
• No fridge, no wardrobe, and no proper storage space at all.
• The safety deposit box wasn’t secured — it could literally be picked up and carried away.

For a hotel of this size, it’s also surprising that there’s no gym or basic amenities.

Overall, this was a very disappointing stay. I definitely won’t be coming back, and I’d advise others to look elsewhere for better value and comfort.

This place is the opposite of Grand. It is tired and in appalling condition. The hotel is so run down. Single pane windows, so it’s SO noisy outside! And cold / drafty. The beds are horrible old sprung mattresses, and very tired, yuck. No blankets just a thin duvet. Chairs are very tired and cheap, not comfortable. Old towels. There is no Netflix, Apple or any streaming services just an old tv. You cannot airplay or mirror to the tv because it is too old. So no movies! Crazy.

No phone to call reception! I guess they don’t want you to call because they know how bad it is.

The carpet looks very old / unclean. Paint is marked / chipped and needs redoing. It’s just generally really tired and unacceptable for the price they are charging.

In fact no information or welcome just a card with the room number scribbled on it. Totally appalling facilities and a huge waste of money do not stay here.

I never complain but I did call reception about the cold & asked for a blanket, staff did eventually bring me another duvet. The staff clearly know it’s bad. Do not stay here!!!

The room is spacious, and the toilet is large. The staff are friendly, but I wish there was a refrigerator.
The restaurant looks nice, and the breakfast is good.

Good location in the city center.

The room was a bit small, and the hotel had a classic/vintage feel. Although official check-in is at 3 PM, they allowed early check-in if a room was available. It's only a 5-minute taxi ride from the train station, and there are many restaurants nearby.

The building is really beautiful. Great location too. Staff were friendly and helpful and we could store our luggage after we checked out.

Worst hotel visited in the UK. Arrived at 3:40, room was not ready they did nothing just kept us waiting for a long time.
When we got to the room it smelled of bleech. Horrible lift, it was a 1000 years old. Small rooms with ugly cheap decor.
Only plus point was the good location.
Definitly will not go back in the future...

Visited late Monday lunchtime so was quite quiet. My son ordered the delicious carbonara, I was recommended the mixed shellfish pasta dish which was served in a beautiful silver foil swan. The dish was stunning and the wine was good too. Staff were helpful and charming. Can’t wait to visit again.

Here for the lunchtime menu. 2 course for £12.95. Food was delicious and the service was great. Would definitely pop back again for lunch and to try their extensive dinner menu.

Have eaten here many times over the years & this restaurant has dramatically declined in all aspects.
On our most recent visit we felt we were left with no other choice than to leave before ordering because of the extremely rude staff and complete lack of customer service and care. General manager was downright rude and shouted in our faces upon feedback and all other staff we interacted with were no better.
Would not recommend & will not be returning. There are plenty of lovely restaurants in Bristol and this one is definitely worth a swerve especially if you’re celebrating a special occasion.

Really can't fault the food or the service here. I was taken for my birthday and the meal was fantastic. Delicious seafood starters and great mains, and excellent wine to go with it all. Will definitely come back.

Probably the most friendly staff I ever seen on a subway. . A very good reason for return

This is an extremely busy subway and relatively small for the popular location is at. But just like all the other subways. Super healthy fresh and fast food. Great points system often able to get a free sub with my points. ?
