Beautiful historic hotel. Loved the elegant lobby and central bar. The hotel was previously a Sheraton (I think) and has inherited some of the negative reviews. It underwent major renovations several months ago and is now classed as a Marriott Tribute Hotel. Pet friendly, which I appreciate. Check in was frustrating. You can check in online in advance and select a mobile key, but it serves no purpose. You still have to physically check in at reception because, even after the renovations, online check in doesn’t work. Love the concept of the vinyl library. Keep in mind the music is quite loud and the incense is overpowering, but it is still a cool vibe. Lobby bar is great. Good service, with well-priced drinks. The vinyl library was meant to have someone working there but we had to wait 20 minutes for them to show up. No one there in the morning to take back the records, so we left them with reception. No big deal. Rooms are lovely and well appointed. Shower/toilet (no bath) room with a single sink outside. Shower was warm, but not hot. There is a steam press, fridge, coffee maker, vinyl player, couch. Very comfortable beds. The doors slam shut, which gets old quickly. Soft close was overlooked during the renovation! There is a much quieter vibe, being just off the River Walk. Never had breakfast in the restaurant, but love the Paris Baguette on site. Parking is an outrageous $60. I parked overnight in the Travis Plaza Garage (across the street) for less than $25 (Spot Hero). I’m not sure Bonvoy status was recognized (may have missed it). For $200 a night I think it is worth it, but there are a few kinks to work out. I would stay again.

started the night feeling a little down — alone on Valentine’s Day and honestly throwing myself a small pity party. Instead of staying home, I decided to take a chance and treat myself to a nice dinner. I walked into the Gunter Hotel restaurant downtown without a reservation, and thanks to a few cancellations, they were able to accommodate me.
From the moment I stepped inside, the hospitality was incredible. The hostesses greeted me with warm smiles, and there was no wait at all — I was seated almost immediately. The service only got better from there. Michael B. was attentive, kind, and gave excellent recommendations. The managers were actively walking the floor to ensure guests were enjoying their experience. Nicole stopped by to check on me and genuinely took time to visit, and Sara introduced herself and thanked me for coming in.
What started as a night where I felt alone turned into one where I felt completely welcomed and cared for. I was anything but alone.
And the food? Absolutely excellent. I cleaned my plate!
What an amazing experience. Great staff, great food, and a truly great night. I highly recommend the Gunter Hotel restaurant. Kudos to the entire team!

I was pleasantly surprised by how charming and luxurious this hotel was. I booked it last-minute for an industry conference in town and couldn’t have been more lucky. The location is awesome with a few really nice places right by and also close to river walk access. The Tribute hotels within Marriott are turning out to be some of my favorite offerings, this one certainly contributes to that for me!!!

The front desk person told me the hotel just opened within the last few months and services were being added as it got going. I didn’t notice any issues with this.

I was disappointed to realize the room they gave me had a window with opaque windows, I was able to open them to see why, an interior view of HVAC equipment and a roof area. Not great, opaque windows are fine for a short stay, but if you can get an exterior facing room it would be a much better experience.

The room finishes were really great, the marble on the bathroom really nice and seemed to be used other places like the lobby bar. The bathroom fixtures were also noticeably high quality and well installed.

One weird thing I experienced was that the hot water didn’t get as hot as you would expect. It was just warm enough for a comfortable shower, but I think some people that like their showers hot would be disappointed. The hotel should be able to fix this pretty easily. Sort of a similar story with the room thermostat, it read 69 the entire time I was there even though I changed the point to 74, it never budged from 69. Weird, and sort of annoying too.

The record player idea is really cool even though I’m not actually into that kind of thing, but I love the creativity and concept. My rooms record player didn’t seem to work, but I didn’t try very hard to make it work so not sure if there was some obvious thing I was doing wrong.

The Gunther Hotel Restoration came out beautiful, The main lobby is inviting with two well situated bars (KC & 414). The Resturant "Jots" is on main level with exceptionally well prepared food that my wife and I have enjoyed in the resturant and at KC bar. However, for folks like me who travel for a living we know what makes a hotel exceptional and it is the staff. The managers and staff are very personable, accommodating and pay attention to the details to make the guest experience worth the stay. Today is New Year's Eve and I would like to call out Hever, front desk manager for exceptional service and being an all around gentleman. I can not forget the folks at the bar who make great drinks and conversation. My compliments to Daryl, Bar manager as well as Michael, Angel, Baily and Trent. Thank you all and have a Blessed New Year!!!

Wow! Romantic, lovely, newly renovated (reopened only a month ago) landmark hotel. Alejandro and Ovi at the front desk were very friendly, welcoming and accommodating. They were well versed in the hotel's history and renovation and shared cool facts, stories, places to go, etc. The Christmas decorations were beautiful and the lobby lounge, bar, and Jots were very well appointed and buzzing with guests. Love they mixed the hotel's history and the modern perfectly (1909 to now) - from the original switchboard and mail drops to the in-room record player, lighting, fixtures and furnishings - our stay was both romantic and relaxing. Be sure to visit the Paris Baguette for delectable pastries and desserts. Thank you for a wonderful anniversary and Christmas visit.

Old world style hotel, so don't expect renovated rooms. Decent value. Customer service is good for the most part.

If anyone is looking for great deals on hotels go to HotelRaven. com Booked a room on there and they had the best rates around...

Nice towels and bedding. Comfortable mattress. Friendly helpful staff. Great location near the River Walk and downtown. Two things reduce my rating; 1) they turned off the AC for repairs 6am-6pm on a hot summer day, and 2) the hotel ran out of regular coffee. I'm not joking, they only had decaf for the in-room coffee makers. Seems like poor planning/poor management.

The lobby and club rooms are very nice. Club room had good wines and hot breakfast. The location is also great, just 3 minutes walk from the Riverwalk.

The rooms are large but in need of an uplift. Furniture and paint look very old. One of the rooms I stayed in had a mild smell. I did not notice it after a while, but definitely did when I walk in.

Rich in history, the hotel itself it's very nice. My room on the fourth floor is furnished nicely. While the hotel is nice and the room has obviously been updated it could use some touch up. There are corners in the bathroom that have the metal reinforcement exposed and the wallpaper was poorly cut. But the real problem is the sound in the room. I am on the fourth floor and the sounds of the streets reverbs between buildings and during the night fire trucks ran down the streets on multiple occasions and sound as they passed within feet of the end of my bed. The noise is loud enough that the room actually comes with earplugs. Also the walls are extremely thin. If some goes down the hall you will know it.

Food poisoning and bad service. The lady at the front counter barely acknowledged us and she tossed the found on the counter when it was ready and walked away. An hour after I got my pizza I became very ill. Found out I got food poisoning. Never going back. Their prices were too high anyway.

Went in today to buy some pieces of bread from the bakery, the stuff they had semed OK. I ordered two cinnamon buns and two regular cheesecake slices, the bill came out to $22....seriously?!?! $22 dollars for four pieces of bread? I'll admit it, I was stupid, I paid, but I won't be coming back to this place ever again. Severe price rip off! Next time I'll go to the bakery at the Pearl Brewery where the bread is far better quality at a far better price.

Well, just called to see if they have anything that I can pop in and pick up for my daughter's birthday. Honestly, it could have been a doughnut for all I care, but apparently, they don't sell any items unless you call 72 hours in advance. Like, no food items at all. So, I guess they wait and prepare their food three days hence from what people call and order in advance. No business from me, thanks.

Every dessert looked so good! Went with the pecan pie and it was delightful! Awesome location and fast service.

It all boils down to the employees. Yesterday we had a nice experience with the young man from St Petersburg. Today was horrible. The kid at the counter, obviously did not want to be there. He could not make a decent cappucino.....even with two attempts. Was planning on dining in....but food was tossed into a to go box. Asked for a plate....told that he ran out. Walked over to the buffet and found a stack of them. Decided I needed to dine elsewhere, for cappuccino was not right. Made me wait on tbe manager for 10 minutes. Snide remarks from kid... Manager did not care to find out what was wrong. Took two attempts to get my money back. Manager still disinterested, as to why I wanted my money back. What ever happened to service?
Skipped over to Sipps and scored on both food and service! Great cappucino!!

Good food. Very poor service. The ink didn't dry on the receipt before it was yanked out of my hand. Left a bad taste in my mouth after a good meal... My recommendation, just tip less so you aren't disappointed.

Great place. Came here for a large party dinner. Service was prompt. Food was delicious! Seared black pepper tuna was perfect. Filet was amazing. Dessert was also spot on. Overall everything was great!

This place is a gem surrounded by Tex-mex. The food is astounding. I had the lunch portion of the Chicken Parm with the meat sauce and it was amazing! Our waitress, Mari, was also the best. She provided us with the best service and warmest smile. If ever I am back in San Antonio, this will be a place I revisit.

From the looks of this place you'd think the food is good. The best thing I had was the water. My spaghetti and meatballs were brought to me in less than 5 minutes, more like 2-3 so it definitely wasn't made fresh. The pasta and sauce was barely warm and the meatballs were blazing hot like they just came out of a microwave, and they were like rubber. I've seriously had frozen diners that were better. I ate it because I was starving and when I got to the bottom there were several gobs of dried cheese stuck to the plate. THERE WAS NO CHEESE IN THE SAUCE! I assume it was left over from the previous person. In the event that I die tonight, this restaurant should be investigated.

The food was wonderful. The atmosphere was very pleasant. Scott was an excellent waiter. He helped us choose out a wine that my new wife and I very much enjoyed. We are very happy that we chose Paesanos as the restaurant to go to on our wedding day.
