Samarkand Imron Hotel in Samarkand

We had original reservations at Samarkand City centre, but we were told upon arrival that "there had been accident, room is stinky," so they sent us here, even promising a window view.

I was peeved as this was now a 15 minute walk to Registan square instead of 5 from the original place. But at least closer to the Amir Temur Mausoleum.

We were taken here and they demanded cash for all 3 nights. I wanted to call back the taxi to get driven somewhere else, but we already had a long travel day. I had to ask if we could at least see the rooms before committing.

The room was clean on a positive note. It's newer, so it's good for now, hopefully good upkeep over time will keep it that way.

But the place had a couple large holes in the wall (both that were much bigger than a large door) that were covered with tarp, one with a car battery to hold it in place. Back home, there are laws that wouldn't let a place like this operate with those.

Our "window view" was a joke as both of them were butted up against a fixture, as pictured.

I thought the breakfast was fine, my husband thought it wasn't good at all, especially the coffee ☕. He didn't eat there again.

Upon check-out, we had to wait for the hostess to go in our room and count/find all of the towels before we could leave. In all my years of travel, I've never seen anything like this. That's just bad business: is it really worth establishing distrust in a guest for a towel?!

Finally, for Yandex sake, this place was harder for drivers: we had to walk off site for about 5 minutes for them to find and pick us up.
