I made a booking for the wrong dates accidentally. I noticed 5 mins later and tried to cancel or change. Not possible online. I ring booking.com, they say the hotel needs to accept the cancellation then I can rebook, they've asked the hotel. I immediately called the hotel, they said they haven't received a cancel request. This is a lie. I explain the situation and that I will book for the correct dates. I send multiple emails to them over the next 24 hrs asking about the cancellation status, or if they can just change the booking to the correct dates. No response. I book for the correct (earlier) dates, thinking that they'll then see both bookings and understand I'm not trying to cancel only correct the date. I email again, having paid twice. No response.
I arrive at the hotel, after reception is closed (they were aware of this and left key card in lock box). The key card in the lock box didn't work. Luckily some restaurant workers were still closing up and could let me in, one then gave me a new keycard. We went to the room and it had one queen bed - I had booked for two separate beds for my sister and I. The restaurant workers couldn't help.
Reception is only open for a couple hours on Saturday which we missed, so I finally got to talk to them in person on Sunday when we leave.
Even though I am there in person, with someone translating German for me, they refused to approve the cancellation for the incorrect later booking. I've literally just paid them twice. For the wrong room vs what i booked. No apology, no understanding, no empathy. It would have taken her one click of a button to return my money but she stood there lying. She first said it's not possible because it was on booking.com. I know this is a lie - I have the email from booking.com saying that the hotel had the option to approve the cancellation but they declined. Then she said it's because they're a "small hotel". Which apparently gives them the right to knowingly exploit my mistake when I made all possible efforts to resolve it, both minutes after i booked, and in person after I'd already stayed there.
Avoid.
Edit: The hotel's response below is misleading. I called minutes after booking, explained the date mixup (not "free cancellation"), was told to ask booking.com. I had ALREADY phoned booking.com who told me they asked the hotel to waive cancellation fee and for me to explain this to the hotel, so they would accept the cancellation and I could rebook. The hotel refused. Booking.com apologised to me and said as the hotel refused, nothing they can do. My emails they ignored were to their official email address on their website not booking.com. As I'm writing this, the hotel still can refund the second booking if they choose but they would rather keep the extra 160 euro. I regret trusting them and giving them the 2nd booking, especially as I went direct through their site to give them more money instead of booking.com taking a cut. Very stupid of me to give them that.
Serving, we didn’t have time to eat, but we had coffee, and they were very nice.
Rooms are clean, and that’s what matters most.
Based on the price, 5 stars is the only answer.
Reception was very friendly & spoke english.
If I ever come in Bonn again, this is the place to go.
I was lucky enough (and very grateful) to be upgraded to one of the rooms in their adjacent, newer building (just across the road). Entry to this building is secure and can only be accessed by your room's keycard (which also allows access to the reception area in the older building). This new building also features a small, modern elevator to get to the upper floors...handy for me as was on the top floor.
The upgraded room I was assigned to was immaculately clean, very spacious (bathroom too), and furnished with modern furniture, bed, and large flatscreen TV (Netflix app is available). It was an open planned designed with lounge/sitting room combined with the bedroom (containing a very comfortable, soft yet supportive, King mattress). The lounge area contained a sofa bed and matching chair, plus a sitting chair. The room also contained a desk with a chair, a small mini-bar fridge (stocked with drinks and snacks), a large mirrored wardrobe, and a luggage rack, with two bedside tables next to the bed. Heating was provided by either an air-conditioner or by two separate water radiators - these radiators performed very well. The two large windows had curtains and electric outdoor blinds for privacy at night.
The bathroom was very bright and well lit, had a heated floor and towel rack, large vanity mirror, and a large walk-in shower (excellent water pressure and hot water supply).
As I had to extend my stay twice, the last few nights I had to move to another room. This was much smaller (bathroom as well), but the quality was still the same, as to the cleanliness. The only downside to this other room is that the TV did not feature the Netflix app (and the vast number of channels available were mostly in German....or German dubbed).
Both rooms and throughout the property (and between buildings) had good WiFi with a constant and strong connection.
I only dined once in their restaurant (dog friendly too), and both the meal and the service were excellent. The restaurant with a bar was very comfortable and provided a good atmosphere. When the weather is warmer, they have an alfresco section, which would be nice to dine at during summer. The menu had a good array of entrees and main fares, with a few dessert selections on offer. The quality of my meal was superb.
The only negative thing about the property is that there is only roadside parking. This can be hard to find during the daytime due to nearby business/hospital, but after 5pm, parking was a bit easier to find nearby and/or opposite. (NB: During the daytime parking was easier to find further down the one-way street or in neighbouring streets).
The location is quiet and not too far away from the shopping precinct of Bad Godesberg- only about a 10-15 minute walk. The castle is an easily walkable distance, too.
I can highly recommend this excellent hotel/restaurant if you plan on staying or dining at Bad Godesberg.
