Astoria Business Resort Essen by Mayburgh in Essen

The moment I arrived 5 days ago I felt very welcome. The service in that location is professional, warm hearted, people are helpful with always a smile in their face.
The breakfast was excellent… warm and cold food, fresh bakery, juices, fruit, self made confiture.
The breakfast room in a beautiful location looking to the garden and the water pond with the calming sound of a water spring.
The location of the hotel is amazing, just a few walking minutes to the underground and gorgeous shops, supermarkets and a big mall with food court. Many Different kind of restaurants are nearby. Banks, ATM, are the area aswell.

This is very much a cheap but fine hotel. They obviously run on a small staff, but the staff they have are friendly and helpful.

The rooms were clean-ish, the tops of the bedside tables had been cleaned but not the shelves and there was a dead earwig in the kettle. The bed was ok, everything was a little thin and worn. They have a policy where you can decline room service and receive some treats in return which worked perfectly for me, I have no desire for a made bed, but some crisps and a mars bar I can use!

Breakfast is put out at 6 or 7 and not refilled so if the hotel is busy there is almost nothing left after 8am. If you get in early there is a nice selection of hot and cold food and fruit. The coffee machine does a nice variety of perfectly reasonable coffee.

Check-in is automated and it took me a while to figure it out, but I could make myself up to 3 keys and could check in when was convenient.

The location is superb, close to a bakery, a Georgian restaurant, an Indonesian restaurant and most usefully an U-bahn station with a direct service to the Messe, staying North of the centre I could always get a seat so the slightly longer journey didn’t matter at all.

Overall this is a very cheaply run hotel and it feels it, that may not work for you, but it did what I wanted.

This is a good budget hotel. Try to get a room in the main building. Rooms in the annexes are smaller and need updating. Our rooms were a good size. Clean but maybe a little tired looking. Staff were very helpful. Breakfast is excellent. Very close to public transport for easy access to city centre and beyond by train or road.

Great deal for a local hotel with tickets for Movie Park Germany, and a pleasant place to stay. However, there is more road noise than than I can sleep though, and the bathroom has no extractor.
