Kenran Resort Ubud by Soscomma in Ubud

The hotel location is very remote, the sanitary conditions are mediocre, and the breakfast is the worst I have seen to date. I stayed for two nights, and it was a complete nightmare—absolutely terrible. The pillows in the room were dirty, and the sheets were dirty. I am 185 cm tall, and when I sat on the toilet in the room, I could barely reach the floor. At 7:40 AM, two people knocked on the door forcefully to urge me to check out; at 11:00 AM, they urged me again, even though according to the booking, I could check out at 12:00 PM. After checking out, they sent someone to inspect the room twice and made me wait. I don't know what valuables were in that room, but they treated the guest like a thief. It was a very bad experience, and I guarantee that everything I have said is true.

This property is absolutely not a 5-star hotel, and advertising it as one is highly misleading. Our stay revealed serious issues with cleanliness, maintenance, service quality, and overall management that should not exist at a hotel claiming this rating.

Mould was found in multiple places throughout the room and facilities: on the hand wash and soap bottles, inside the glass used to serve juice at the Indian restaurant, along the edges of the shower glass, and even on the hairdryer. General cleanliness across the resort was poor and gave the impression that proper deep cleaning and hygiene checks are not being carried out regularly.

The bed was extremely squeaky—so much so that simply turning positions at night would wake us up. We had to change rooms twice. The second room had the same issue, suggesting this is a widespread problem. Only the third room was finally acceptable. This level of disruption is unacceptable, especially for a hotel marketed as luxury.

Ants were everywhere, including during breakfast, where they were walking near the buffet items. It strongly felt like fumigation or pest control is either not done or not done properly.

Breakfast was another major disappointment—easily one of the worst we’ve experienced in Bali, where hotel breakfast standards are usually excellent. The toilet bowl in the room was also unusually high and uncomfortable to use.

Reaching reception was unreliable; calls often went unanswered. While the staff were polite and well-intentioned, they were clearly untrained and not equipped to handle guest concerns efficiently.

The resort felt noticeably empty during our stay, with very few guests around, which added to an uncomfortable and eerie atmosphere rather than a relaxing one. While the secluded location may appeal to some, the resort is not walkable to anything and is far from most places in Ubud, making it highly inconvenient without constant transport.

Overall, the resort appears poorly maintained and poorly managed. With significant improvements in cleaning standards, pest control, staff training, and general upkeep, it might meet expectations one day—but in its current state, it falls far short of what is advertised. We would not recommend this property, particularly to anyone expecting a true 5-star experience.
