Gunung An Retreat in Ubud

This is a hazard to your health.
We booked Gunung A because of the excellent reviews on Google maps but when we arrived we were shocked. The whole complex was falling apart, wet and molding walls everywhere, nothing has been cleaned, even the kitchen equipment looked like it has never seen dish soap before.
The complex itself has so much potential but it has NOTHING to do with the pictures shown on booking or Google maps anymore.
Very sad.

We chose this place for a tranquil, peaceful getaway, enticed by its natural surroundings and nearby small waterfall. Unfortunately, the reality was disappointing.

The entire property desperately needs renovation, a thorough cleaning and disinfecting and more attentive care. We were eager to enjoy the outdoors amidst nature, but the pool was filthy, the sun beds had dirty cushions and mattress on them, and cobwebs were everywhere.

The property overall is very outdated, dirty and unkept. The spa and sauna areas were equally dirty and outdated.

While our bedroom was spacious, and while the duvet covers were clean, the positives ended there. The wooden floors in the shower have literal holes, the panels are dirty, and there was hair on the toilet. The shower curtains haven’t been cleaned nor changed since they first opened. The towels were equally old and overused.

I appreciate the retreat is in the midst of nature, but that’s no excuse for the appalling lack of cleanliness.

Regrettably, the property does not resemble the pictures advertised. It might have been like that when it first opened, but now it falls far short of expectations. It's such a disappointment, as it has the potential to be so much more with proper upkeep and care.
