Etna Royal View in Trecastagni

Booked this and should have checked how far out this was, in a small town a long way from Catania. Nasty junction to turn into the gates at night if it's your first visit. One of our group needed the loo, but no toilet facilities downstairs! Made him wait and go through all the check in procedures before we were eventually shown up to our apartment!
The twin bed room was very snug, no en-suite and no aircon. Also the mattresses were both memory foam type and very uncomfortable. The double bed room was more spacious and had aircon. The lounge-kitchen-diner was spacious, but for 4-6 people it only had one 2-3 seater sofabed to relax on which is not enough. 2nd choice was one of the hard dining chairs. Kitchen was clean and well equipped and we were grateful for the bottle of water in the fridge. The balcony was large with a fantastic view down to the coastline. We were at the front of the building over the entrance porch, so Etna was out of view from there. The whole apartment was spotlessly clean. Bathroom offered the washing machine, shower, bidet, toilet, hand basin, and a special sink for hand washing your clothes should you want to. Couple of problems which were solved quickly when we reported them. The toilet cistern flush kept trickling constantly, and the flush button jammed in, and the bidet plug wouldn't open to let the water out after use.
Breakfast was included in the price, but we were only allowed to choose one item per person from a list of about 8 items which was the same every day, so it would become a bit boring if you stayed for a longer time than us. Cheese ham and tomato in a bready bun, or in a kind of puff pastry, the obligatory arancina, a couple of different cakes - I ordered the strawberry topped slice and got a danish twist with chocolate in. Be prepared to eat out! Or self cater.
