Yamashiro Onsen Miyabi No Yado Kaga Hyakumangoku in Kaga

We wanted an authentic Japanese experience during our first trip to Japan and found Yamashiro Onsen, Miyabi no Yado. From the moment of collection at the station the staff go out of their way to make you feel special. We were the only westerners during our stay which we loved. Yakutas, informal kimono are provided for wearing around the hotel and almost everyone wears one. We booked the included dinner and breakfast and it was exceptional. A lot of food and a wonderful opportunity for the adventurous to try new things. The meal has really been a highlight from an already pretty awesome holiday. We used an app called kuli kuli to translate menus and deepl for translating spoken messages to communicate with the staff. The vast majority only speak Japanese - as we are in Japan we had no issue with that and do not expect English to be spoken when we travel. That said check in was carried out in perfect English. The gardens are quite beautiful and we highly recommend spending a night or two here to relax. We did not explore the surrounding area or use the onsen as we have tattoos and did not have tattoo covers with us. This did not in anyway detract from our stay.

This hotel met or exceeded every expectation my lovely wife and I had. For our first trip to Japan we wanted to have a true set Japanese meal totally immersed in the culture and this delivered. We didn’t opt for the traditional Japanese style room as was out of our budget but our ‘western’ room was huge, clean, well equipped and even had traditional yakuta for us to wear to dinner and we did! Dinner was beyond OISHI! I dont even know half of what we ate but the beef, which we grilled ourselves, and veggies and various raw fish served was unbelievably delicious. I was served the best pieces of raw tuna Ive had this whole trip! The hotel is like Overlook hotel massive! All the facilities were readily available and clean, including two massage chairs with a view that we took advantage of for an hour completely free. Cannot review the on site onsen as my wife and I are quite covered with tattoos and we weren’t really there for the onsen anyway. We did have the amazing Madonna (yep thats her name) ask management and they advised if we went after 9pm it would be fine. The staff were lovely and very helpful once translations through phone apps were made. Madonna, the young lady who checked us in had great english but seemed to be the only one and this was NOT an issue for us. I only have one slightly negative thing and its just a bit of a Larry David moment… at dinner I ordered a coke and it came in an average size glass filled with ive and when checking out was charged the equivalent of 2£ for it. The meal was already paid in full in advance. This only bothers me because there is a FREE soda fountain in the lobby where you can get FREE coke 24/7 so why charge at the restaurant? I would expect to be charged for alcohol or even juice but this is just me being knit picky. HIGHLY RECOMMEND STAYING HERE!

They upgraded our room, which was spacious and allowed us to relax comfortably. The hot spring bath was also very pleasant and relaxing. It was wonderful to hear the taiko drum performance at night. Of course, we were also satisfied with dinner and breakfast. We would like to go again as a couple next time.

All the staff were very kind.
Children enjoyed the evening fairs and magic shows.

Very good experience

The smiling faces of all staff members, including the reception staff, were very nice.
Also, even though it's a large inn, it was very clean and I had a comfortable stay.

It was a three-person trip with my wife and my wife's grandmother-in-law, and we were very satisfied.

The timing was perfect, and there were events such as a bingo tournament, and I received vegetable juice as a prize!

Next time, I would like to use this service with my wife's mother.

This is a famous inn that inherits Hotel Hyakumangoku. The view from the famous garden is good, the hot springs are pleasant, the food is delicious, and the staff is very responsive.

The food was not satisfactory. The beef was too old to chew. The breakfast on both days was basically the same. No change. The Western-style Japanese-style room was good. The landscape was open and the garden was beautiful. The hot spring pool was monotonous, with only one large pool and one outdoor pool.
