Akakura Wakui Hotel in Myoko

Akakura Wakui Hotel is in a great location, close to the Akakura Onsen Kumado ticket office and Kumado #1 quad lift, as well as the main hub of town with a convenience store, a variety of eateries, and ski hire shops.

We loved our spacious corner, slope side, quiet, traditional tatami suite with futons for three people and a lovely view. The buffet breakfasts were enjoyable and set us up well for the day.

Daisuke san and his family are very kind and helpful, and they kindly offered complimentary pick up and drop off to the local Myoko train station at check in or check out. Discount lift ticket vouchers are available at reception for Akakura Onsen, the combined Akakura Onsen and Akakura Kogen area, and Suginohara Resort. There is also an additional discount available for direct cash purchase of Akakura Onsen lift tickets at the hotel.

Wifi is consistently strongest in the ground floor where the communal lounge area as well as the dining room are located. Vending machines and coin operated laundry available onsite too. Spacious ski room with lockers and a dry room was good.

The Wakui family have a long legacy in the area and it's a pleasure to stay at their hotel when visiting this wonderful area. A stones throw from the ticket booth and quad chair.

Great location, right next to Akakura Onsen ski lift. Older family-run hotel with traditional rooms over several storeys & tradition onsen. If you have mobility issues, request to stay level 1 & 2, rather than level 3 & 4 which has rooms in another building. Staff very helpful. They offer train station pick up and drop off. Boot and ski room is downstairs. Recommended. Will return.

The owner speaks English and extremely polite.

The onsen located at B1 has rich sulfate and bicarbonate. They may smell unpleasant and make floor turn black, which people may misunderstand that onsen is unclean. But every onsen in this region has that distinct smell so it is very natural. In fact they clean onsen at 7am to 2 pm and you cant use onsen on that time period.

The room we were in were in the corner of the building and it was a bit cold even when we turn the heater to max. The room itself was very clean and felt as one of expensive ryokan because it had tatami floor.

Overall it was very nice hotel for a short stay.

The traditional Japanese-style rooms are spacious and clean, and there's also a public bath. The spring water here is clear with some sediment. I would definitely choose to stay here again.

Clean and warm rooms with great hotel facilities, amazing hospitality.

It was close to the ski resort and there was a parking lot next to the hotel, which was very helpful. Nearby large hotels had to take their cars to Parking Lot No. 1 (a 15-minute walk). The staff were also very friendly and we were able to enjoy a comfortable trip.

If I visit this town again, this hotel will definitely be my top choice.

The hotel may not be a new building, but it is very cozy and welcoming. For skiing & snowboarding, there is a dedicated dry room and a storage room for ski equipment, conveniently located right next to the hot spring bath, which is the perfect setup for relieving fatigue after snow. Both breakfast and dinner are excellent, with high-quality food. The hotel seems to be family-run, and all the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, providing me with a very comfortable stay.

It's close to the slopes. The building is old, but it's well-maintained and not uncomfortable. The food was delicious, and the hospitality was the best! I'd like to go again.
