Beautiful 200 years old Ryokan, now owned by the 6th generation of the host's family. We stayed in a twin bedroom which was beautiful. Enjoyed a super delicious Japanese dinner and breakfast.
The host was very friendly and accommodating to our every need, he even had boots for us to borrow for the shrine walk through the snow along with a bear bell.
Thank you again for the hospitality.

Incredible stay with Oshi-san. Extremely hospitable, authentic, and beautiful rustic Ryokan. Strongly recommend ordering dinner and breakfast ahead of time. Great experience ❤️

Incredible place with exceptional hospitality, the host provider me with dinner and breakfast at last notice and it was one of the best meals ive had during my trip in japan. The rooms are very cozy with a traditional vibe. Definitely spend at least one night if youre staying in Nagano

The room was a very big traditional style room. With private toilet (no bath or shower) and traditional heater table.

The staff is a family who are extremely kind and warm. They speak good english and they serve very nice traditional meals. I recommend to book with breakfast and dinner, as all the restaurants in the zone close around 3 pm.

It is placed very close to the path to the main shrine (aprox 1.5 h to there by walking) which is a very nice walk.

Very recommended

Authentic Ryokan. They prepared for us dinner and breakfast - fresh, traditional, very tastefull Japanese food. We love it. Host was extremely friendly and welcoming. Bathroom and toilets are shared, but very clean. Bus stop is 2 min by foot. We would love to come back.

Everything about my stay was great - from the beautiful traditional Japanese house, delicious feast carefully prepared by the owners, warm and cozy room with a spectacular view of Nagano mountains, to the surrounding nature, snow, and calming atmosphere.

Oshi-san (the owner) is the kindest and most welcoming person you can imagine - can't recommend this stay enough!

Comfortable rooms in a beautiful old building, the staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. It's traditional Japanese style, so expect to sleep on futons, not beds, and sit on the floor when eating. The optional food is very very good, but again, traditional Japanese. If you don't like Japanese food such as fish, sashimi (raw fish/meats) or that type of thing, they will provide you with alternatives, so ask in advance.

The location is good, but prepare to either catch the bus or walk up hill a lot to see the shrines nearby and visit local attractions. It's a two minute walk from the bus stop.

Wi-Fi is good, and there are western toilets. The bathroom is Japanese style, so there's showerheads to wash with in a large wet room, and a giant hot bath for relaxing.

We stayed there in April 2015.
+ Extreme friendliness, welcoming and hospitality, large room, right next to a bus stop, great dinner and breakfast, not far from the Togakushi Shrine and its over 300 majestic old Cryptomeria trees. Yes, we would return.
- Insufficient heat insulation have kept the corridor and shared toilets at a temperature where additional clothing was useful. We had them so not much trouble.

The most friendly and welcoming stay we've had so far in Japan. Very comfortable, very affordable, wonderfully traditional. They served delicious Japanese breakfasts and dinners (not for the feint of heart) but are also happy to accommodate those who are "not good at Japanese food." This Ryokan is a genuinely old building, over 150 years old, so I would characterise it as being a little rough around the edges, but with a warm heart. Highly recommended.

The Ryokan is amazing, the hosts are warm and welcoming and happy to help in anyway. They have a massive bath you can soak in to relax before putting on your yukata and walking around the local area. The inn is very cold as to be expected in the mountains but you get a heater in your room and the futon bed are very cosy. To get to it you take the number 70 or 71 bus from the number 7 bus stop outside the alpico bus office, which is located over the road from the station ( over the walk bridge is easiest ) and to the left of the post office.A single either way is 1450yen while a return ticket is about 2500yen and a Togakushi Travel Pass for the Tokugashi region is 2600yen. This is a 5day all access pass to the Tokugashi Region plus a return journey to and from Nagano, with a stop off at Zenkoji Temple on either the way there on the way back. Plus it has a few 10% off deals and some lower entrance fees to some sites. Either way it will take about an hour up the scenic mountain route on the bus, you should get off at Togakushi-Hokosha and start walking back down the hill, you will pass the steps upto the lower shrine on your right and the Ryokan is the first drive way on your left round the bend, it has a sign with a 'K' on it. If you're feeling up for it, the walks up to all the shrines is a lovely trip, encasing some beautiful scenery, however it can be a tiring day; even the lower shrine around the corner has a fair few steps. This is where the bus pass would come in handy as you could ride up to the top of the region and work back down or in whatever order you like but be aware the buses generally only run every hour or so.
