Description

Hotel Kansai is a budget-friendly option located in Osaka, offering 438 rooms in a single building constructed in 1971 and renovated in 2011. The hotel features various room types including Semi Double, Single, Triple, Quadruple, Double, and a special room with a mini kitchen and popIn Aladdin projector. Rooms are described as small but clean and comfortable, suitable for travelers prioritizing location over spaciousness. The hotel provides free Wi-Fi, although some guests have reported intermittent connectivity issues. Facilities include air conditioning, 24-hour front desk, laundry services, a restaurant with buffet breakfast, and a shared lounge area. Pets are not allowed, and check-in starts at 15:00 with check-out by noon. The hotel is practical for solo travelers and those focused on exploring Osaka rather than spending time in the room.

Location

Hotel Kansai is situated in Osaka city, approximately a 5-minute walk from Higashi-Umeda metro station on the Tanimachi line. It is about a 15-minute walk from Osaka Railway Station, making it convenient for regional travel. The airport is 15 km away. Nearby landmarks include Umeda Sky Building and Hep Five, both reachable within minutes. The hotel is also close to several restaurants such as Prison Restaurant The lock-up Umeda (244 m) and two others around 250-280 meters away. For beach access, 大阪ふれあいの水辺 is roughly 1.57 km from the hotel. The location is well connected but the pedestrian routes can be confusing for first-time visitors due to bridges, underpasses, and mall connections.

Tips

  • Choose a room on a higher floor for better views as recommended by guests.
  • Be prepared for small and simple room setups; bring your own comfortable seating if needed.
  • For reliable internet usage, plan to work offline or confirm the Wi-Fi status as it can be unstable.
  • Use the Whity Umeda underground walk (Exit M14) to avoid rain and crowds while accessing the hotel.

Highly recommend Hotel Kansai for solo travelers! The best part is the easy access—you can use the underground Whity Umeda walk (Exit M14) to avoid the rain and crowds. It’s right in the heart of the action, so you can explore the Umeda Sky Building or Hep Five and be back in your room in minutes. Simple, clean, and perfectly situated for anyone who wants to spend their time exploring rather than commuting

I stayed at Hotel Kansai for four nights. Overall, the room was pretty good — comfortable and clean. The bathroom is very small, but that’s fairly standard for Japan, so no real surprise there.

The staff were great and very friendly, although check-in is self-service, so you don’t really need much help anyway.
There were a few negatives that are worth mentioning. One small but disappointing issue was dust behind the TV. It’s wall-mounted and very visible when you walk past every day, so it didn’t feel like something that was just missed once — it stood out.

In the new building, there is only one elevator and it’s very slow. That’s a minor issue, but the biggest problem by far is the Wi-Fi. It’s extremely unreliable. It connects, disconnects for several minutes, comes back briefly, then drops again. I tested this on three different devices (phone and laptop), and when it went down on one, it went down on all of them. When it works, the speed is actually very fast, which makes it even more frustrating. For anyone who needs to work online, this is a serious issue, and personally I wouldn’t stay here again unless the Wi-Fi is fixed.

Another thing to note is the location. It’s not as close to the subway as some people might think. There are bridges, underpasses, and mall connections, and if you’re new to the area it can be a bit confusing.

Noise is also something to be aware of. You can hear sounds from outside at night, like music or drums, and the walls seem quite thin — I could hear people snoring in nearby rooms. I didn’t sleep terribly, but I did wake up three or four times each night.

Finally, the room setup is very basic. There’s no proper chair, just a small wooden stool, which isn’t ideal if you want to sit comfortably for any length of time.
Overall, it’s a decent hotel and better than some places I’ve stayed, but not the best. I would consider staying again only if the Wi-Fi issues were properly addressed.

I frequently stay at this hotel! The renovated rooms are great and very comfortable! It's also quiet! Perfect for a solo traveler! The front desk service is good too! A special shout-out to the breakfast – it's absolutely delicious! Eating a hearty breakfast and starting a beautiful day is a great choice! I recommend choosing a higher floor for excellent views!

The room was very clean; although a bit small, it had everything we needed. The breakfast was plentiful, especially the Chinese food options. The location is excellent, very close to JR Osaka Station and Umeda Station, making transportation very convenient. There are also many pubs, restaurants, and supermarkets nearby, so finding places to eat or shop for groceries was a breeze.

The hotel's location is pretty good, close to Umeda and Osaka Station. The facilities are basic, but it's clean enough, especially considering the price. If your trip mainly involves just coming back to the hotel to sleep, it's perfectly adequate. After a long day of exploring, that moment of lying down is truly wonderful.

Good location. However, the hotel room soundproof is very poor.

Not sure why there were so many negative reviews on Google maps, my experience there was great! I had no problem with self checking in after reading reviews to put in your name in with no spaces, front desk staff were friendly. The room is quite small but at least you get your own washroom and bath. There are coin laundry and vending machines on the first floor for convenience and I did not have any issue with noise at night, although the wall is a bit thin. The only issue for me was the wifi, had trouble opening any web page at times. Overall was a good experience.

Booked single room. Pros: location is great. Coffee/drinks and amenities provided at lobby.
Cons: wall is thin, no window
