Our first Rykon experience was so memorable for us. We enjoyed every moment of it.
The service was perfect.
Room service was so enjoyable.
The only thing that I didn’t like was the food, food was ok, it wasn’t as perfect as other services. Also I would like to have some options to choose between for the food not being obligated for just one type of dish.
Private onsen was the best part.
It was so quite.

Nice guesthouse in the mountain. Very helpful and nice staff. Privacy in dorm. Onsen in the shower.

If you're particular about dust on windowsills and walls, or the hygiene of bedding (excluding the covers), you might want to reconsider booking. While the duvet cover was clean, it's just a single cover, so as you toss and turn in your sleep, your body inevitably touches the duvet itself.

However, considering the insane accommodation prices in Hakone, this place is incredibly, truly cheap!

The location requires taking a bus to get anywhere, but the bus stop is close by. Be warned, Japanese rural bus schedules are a real headache! Make sure to check the bus times carefully for both your inbound and outbound journeys. Plan your day by checking the timetable for each bus route, otherwise, you could easily waste an hour or two.

The staff are incredibly friendly. I met different staff members upon arrival, during my stay, and at check-out, and they were all genuinely super friendly.

In short:
Would I book here again if I revisited Hakone? Yes!

My husband and I visited Hakone Tokinoshizuku in December 2025 and the stayed in the deluxe room La Tache. The Service was incredible., our concierge Yuka gave us a wonderful and personalized experience. We definitely would return for the wonderful meals served in our room and the private open air onsen among the trees. Our room was traditional Japanese style and was very charming down to every detail, spacious, and comfortable. Thank you very much, we hope to return someday.

Beautiful hotel, friendly staff, amazing view. The private Onsen was so relaxing, especially in the cooler weather. We had the five-course dinner and breakfast all delivered to our room. Special thanks to Yurika-san for explaining our meals and making us feel at home. The whole experience was unforgettable. One of the nicest hotel rooms I've ever stayed in. Felt more like an apartment.

Nice guesthouse, very cosy and calm. We stayed in the family room which can fit for up to 6 persons, it was big enough and the futon were confortables.
The bar serves some basic foods which is ok but I would recommand to eat in one of the restaurants in town if you want something really tasty, it's not far away (10-15 minutes walk).

The food and service were outstanding! The room was spacious and well equipped, with a large balcony and a private onsen.
However, the room was not well maintained — there was visible mold on the ceiling and walls, as well as stains from squashed mosquitoes.
Mosquitoes were quite persistent at night, which made it hard to relax and sleep. Unfortunately, I would not recommend staying here despite the excellent food and service.
The WiFi did not work for us.

Good for budget travelers! Highly recommended if you’re not picky and sensitive. It’s a budget hotel, you get what you pay for. The front desk is so nice, and it’s easy to check in even when you get there late at night. I arrived past 7pm and it’s still fine. Mins of walk uphill from the bus stop. Read the bus stop sign to make sure where the bus is headed, there are two stops each side of the road. I didn’t see, ram/rum the doggie 😭. During check out you don’t have to do anything, just put the use linen in the bag before leaving.

Highlight of our entire trip. The views were absolutely beautiful — peaceful, quiet, and the perfect place to unwind. The food was incredible; don’t listen to the reviews calling it “abstract art” — every dish was delicious and thoughtfully prepared. The private onsen was perfect and felt like such a special experience.

The staff were so attentive, polite, and genuinely helpful throughout our stay. We didn’t catch our host’s name unfortunately, but we were in room 502 on the 7th of October for reference, and she was amazing — she truly made our whole trip. Can’t recommend this place enough.

An establishment that truly cares about their service down to the last detail.
