The service was incredibly thoughtful. They offered on-demand shuttle service to all the attractions in Gora, which was a lifesaver, especially avoiding walking in the cold winter. I highly recommend booking a room with a private onsen, as the bookable private baths and the public bath don't compare to the experience of soaking in your own room.

When we arrived, three hotel staff greeted us and helped us with our luggage. The whole accommodation experience was very good, with thoughtful details and a warm feeling. I enjoyed my stay at Kaihourou. The view was breathtaking. Room was cozy yet sophisticated. The building is an architectural masterpiece by Kengo Kuna. Food was amazing and aesthetically presented. The onsen experience was very relaxing and exclusive. Not sure if this resort normally have English speaking guests. As the staff’s communication is quite limited with non-Japanese speakers.

The service and the large private onsen were excellent! Although Sawa's room was nice, it gave my son three big insect bites on his arms. We were not allowed to go up to view the second floor. The dinner and breakfast kaiseki were so-so and seemed ordinary. There is nothing to do around this place. The beach is too far. For the pricey amount we paid, I wouldn't recommend it. The hotel's shuttle service made getting around incredibly easy. We pre-booked it on Ctrip, and the shuttle to/from Odawara was right on schedule. The hotel has a beautiful environment, especially the Japanese garden 🏡 which is incredibly picturesque. Even though it's winter, the plum blossoms and cherry blossoms 🌸 in the courtyard are already in bloom, making for a pleasant stroll. There are also many cultural relics. The guest rooms are a bit dated, and the facilities are just average.

The hotel's location is excellent. The bus to Owakudani leaves right in front of the hotel. However, there was no snow, so the outdoor views from the hotel weren't particularly appealing, just mountains and bare branches. Since we didn't opt for a meal, the two futons were already laid out for us quite early.

I opted for a two-meal option and would recommend this place to everyone; I think it's quite good value for money. However, there's no shower in the room, so you have to go to the public bathhouse to shower, and then you can soak in the hot spring. If you don't like soaking in the hot spring with a group, they have private bathhouses available for booking at 3500 yen per hour. I recommend them to everyone

The location is a bit secluded.  The staff keep a clean environment.  The service here is excellent.  The facilities are good, however besides onsen and food, there isn't much else to do.  The uncharges are a bit steep

The overall service and facilities were excellent, especially the open-air bath in the room, which was fantastic. It was a bit disappointing, however, that we couldn't arrange dinner on Christmas Eve and had to eat out.

fabulous experience - food was interesting and delicious. the room was lovely looking out to the Mountains with our Private bath... the service was lovely.... I would recommend this as a Ryokan experience. Just use the luggage transfer service from arrival at the Station in Hakone to save you getting your bags up the hill..... its easy to come down when leaving.

The room is really nice and has the sauna in the room. It is really private but when showering you need to sit on the stool to ensure the opposite no one is looking at you
