Hakone, 1300-27, Gora (7 km from centre) 🧭 Map
A beautifully designed hotel with a serene atmosphere. I loved the onsen facilities, especially having both private and public baths to choose from. The surroundings were so quiet that I slept incredibly well. The breakfast buffet was delicious, and the location couldn’t be more convenient. A wonderful stay overall.
The room was great, and the front desk staff were very attentive and detailed. The hotel's overall environment is quite good, and the transportation is also convenient, making it suitable for friends visiting Hakone for the first time. The hotel facilities are complete, and the lounge on the second floor is open 24 hours. You can go there to have some drinks and chat, and it's all free.
I had a wonderful stay at Hakone Yutowa. The hotel was very clean, and the atmosphere felt warm and cozy—especially perfect during the winter season. One of the highlights was the free-flow alcohol selection, which included plum wine, Japanese spirits, whisky, and beer. They also offered a nice variety of snacks like spicy biscuits, nuts, cakes, and mochi, which made the experience even more enjoyable...
The hotel is a 5–6 minute walk from Gora Station, making it convenient for exploring the area. They offer welcome drinks and snacks, along with complimentary coffee and beverages. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious; breakfast included congee, and dinner was a generous spread (buffet plus beef or fish teppanyaki). The room was newly renovated and quite spacious. While there's no bathtub, the indoor...
The room was spotless, and the mini-bar and breakfast service were perfectly in line with the price. The staff's attitude was absolutely perfect. The hot springs were fantastic and really helped me relax~
This is a very spacious onsen ryokan with a kids' book corner and a manga nook. The private onsen baths are free of charge, making it perfect for family trips, though they are quite popular and require a queue. There are complimentary afternoon refreshments and late-night snacks. The courtyard features a bonfire and foot bath. From check-in in the afternoon, there are always facilities to use, and...

Great place to stay in Hakone, we really enjoyed our 2 nights stay which included breakfast (good variety and fresh!). The onsen was also a nice surprise in the hotel. The rooms are nicely decorated and the beds are soft and comfortable. The staff is super friendly.
One of the best decisions I made is staying here. Hotels in Hakone area are pricey. WPU hotel is more affordable compared to others in the area. The staff are really nice. The room is clean. We can see the sunrise from our room. Other guests are friendly. Nice breakfast. Nice onsen. The hotel is located right outside Gora Station. Very convenient with buses, train, or cable car connection. We use...
The hotel is well located to visit Hakone. The bedrooms are very comfortable especially with the private onsen. The walls are thin, it may little bit noisy. Light sleepers may be disturbed. The staff is professionnal and accommodating. The dinner taste good and copious.
Very good hotel. Can get a bit loud in the room in the morning- if your windows are facing the Main Street. Sound isolation is not the strongest side of the rooms design. They provide earplugs tho. Very clean. Very good breakfast - scrambled eggs were perfect. Onsen is nice and accommodations are top level.
Its located right outside the train station. I stayed here 1 night during my Hakone visit and I am so glad for this place because the hotel I stayed in prior night was just awful (separate review on it) Room was spacious and clean. They do have an onsen which was also pretty clean and nice. I had a shared bathroom, which I not always a fan of but it was clean and gender separated. Breakfast was good...
Very good location for easy access to the various sightseeing spots in Hakone. The staff were all friendly and spoke good English. Dinner was delicious and healthy.

Convenient location (right next to the bus stop and sightseeing cruise departure), Mac the host was friendly and very helpful and spoke good English.
MaC was amazing as a host. We loved his hospitality, friendless and advice. His accomodations were simple, clean and sufficient for our 1 night stay. Breakfast was yummy. Thank you MaC!
A very personal, family-run place with exceptionally kind owners who really go out of their way to make guests feel welcome and included. The host is chatty, speaks good English, and even took everyone out in the morning to see a great view of Mount Fuji — a lovely gesture, though maybe a bit much if you prefer privacy or a quieter stay. The property itself is older and simple, with limited amenities...
Hakone 💎 Gem Mr. Mack is very accommodating, shares knowledge of Japan, guided us with traditional Japanese etiquette, food was good, water from Mt. hakone is better than the bottled water! 😀 place is bus accessible, close to the boats, this place is clean, and hospitable.
The room was a decent size and clean, though very cold if you turned the aircon off.The gentlemen at the front of house was a joy, very witty and so helpful, planned our route to the airport for us.
It is not easy to find fluent English speaking person but here you feel in home. You will get all tips to get around and all is relevant.

Room is good, but the shower room is on the ground floor same place with the hot spring, the bus stop is nearby to the train station, however there is no supermarket or restaurant nearby, you have to take the bus to get there, hotel is quite far from the train station that the bus fare is not cheap
An older traditional ryokan. The hostess was so kind and provided delicious meals. There is a small onsen available as well.
You can't store your luggage. Extra charges apply for extended periods, but there are no luggage lockers in Sengokuhara. Also, something strange happened that night. At midnight, the TV suddenly turned on by itself, giving me a start.
I can't wait to come back! We loved our stay! It's a beautiful and very large traditional Japanese house where you feel right at home. Furthermore, the host's kindness greatly contributed to our enjoyable experience. Thank you so much!
Our favorite stop by far. The kids adored the place and the owners, it’s like staying with loving grandparents. A very traditional, authentic Japanese household with natural hot springs, and traditional bath robes provided. The fixtures are in their original state, they reflect the history of a family that have shared their way of life with wondering guests throughout the years. The breakfast was very...
Good service Mother-in-law and father-in-law, very good service, the house is old, but the dinner and breakfast are better than hotel food. Although my mother-in-law only speaks Japanese, she can speak a few words in English, so we can communicate OK

The private bath is really a plus! There are four and no wait line. I had used it twice during my overnight stay. The Japanese dinner is quite delicious too! The surprise was that it snowed, adding extra aesthetic touch.
Both bed was sunken in. Room was clean and big definitely worth the money. However staff was unfriendly and couldn't understand English much
This is a Showa-era style ryokan. There's a bus stop right outside, but no shops nearby. Unless you book meals at the hotel in advance, you'll need to travel a few stops to find food. Breakfast was decent. However, the facilities are old and not very well-maintained, especially the hot springs, which weren't clean at all and quite dirty.
This hotel was a bit aged but well maintained. They have both public and private bath for the guest to use. Some facilities is not very convenient but still usable.
Great location to experience the beautiful landscape.
A nice but dated hotel So this is a recommendation. This hotel sits about mid way on the mountain and a ten minute walk down the road will put you at the rope way to Owadaunuki and the Aishi Cruise Boat. The Room was large and clean, the fuji view is a scam, the trees are way to high as you see from my pictures so dont pay extra for that. There are four private onsens which was a nice bonus you...

Such an amazing experience!! Experienced the best hospitality from the couple that owns this ryokan - they did everything to make sure our stay was perfect. The room, onsen, and ryokan as a whole were all fabulous.
Tsukinoya is easily the most magical place we’ve ever stayed. We stayed three nights, but wish that we’d stayed longer. The couple who own Tsukinoya are the sweetest, most helpful people. The gentleman carried our luggage up three flights of stairs to our room, and insisted on driving us to our destination multiple times. The onsen honestly was a life-changer. We used the one on the first floor and...
This place is absolutely special and we 100% recommend it. We wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big cities and the Hakone area seemed to have everything we needed. We also wanted to try a traditional ryokan and this place hit all the check points: it is traditional, maybe a little outdated but it is part of the charm, in a good area and it has 2 onsens which you can use it private...
To start with, I think it was a really good experience. There are two onsen in the facility which is available for 24 hours. Both of them are private so you will not be sharing with anyone else. The owners were really good people, especially okamisan. She was really caring and always helped us during our stay. The restaurants and facilities around the ryokan is limited. If you want to dine outside...
This traditional ryokan has a private onsen, with a traditional Japanese rooms with tatami mats, we had a magical experience staying here. We transformed back to old time Japan. Above everything else, the couple who runs the place are the most gracious hosts, they took care of us as if we are the only 2 guests in the place, insisted on driving us to wherever we were about to go, always smiling and...
Wonderful hosts- the best part of our stay were the owners. They drove us to dinner and Gora, gave us waters for our outings and made us feel like family. The rooms were comfortable and the hot springs were great. Easy to reserve the onsen, private toilet. You shower where you do the onsen. A highlight of our trip!

Location a bit far from Hakone main train station. Rooms abit aged Facilities needs improved
The room is a traditional Japanese Style. The environment was very relaxing and surrounded by nature. The hot spring was amazing with bamboo forest surrounding which gives the most calming vibe.
The price is reasonable, which I think is great!
The room was quite comfortable, and the hot spring bath was very convenient. However, the transportation is not convenient, making it unsuitable for those with large suitcases.
It was incredible, very clean and quiet ☺️
We stayed here for the second time. A nice old-fashion place. Not fancy but very comfortable, with nice baths.

The bathroom is shared! There's a sink in the room, but going to the bathroom in the early morning can be inconvenient. If you don't know the location, it might be difficult to get there. Buying a local free pass is convenient. The food is so delicious that it's worth all the inconveniences mentioned above. Highly recommended!
Great service and good value for money on the food! 👍 The bathroom is a bit old though. 🙃
The building felt a little worn, but everything was exceptionally clean and functional. We liked our traditional Japanese room. I was afraid that we'd be cold there in November but we managed to heat the room really well with the AC. We could easily book a private onsen room just for us upon arrival. Nice and very helpful staff. Dinner and breakfast were huge!!! with lots of different dishes to try
Very satisfied, such a historic hotel is in a great location. The food is good and the accommodation is also good and satisfactory 👍
This is a surprisingly old hotel. While many of the amenities are dated and some rooms lack private bathrooms, my personal experience makes it highly recommended. I stumbled upon a deal on Ctrip and booked a room with an indoor hot spring bath and private bathroom. Each room has a different name. We stayed in Chidori, which was on the second floor without an elevator, so we had to carry our luggage...
The building is old, but it's close to the bus stop and easy to find. The service is excellent, and everyone is very friendly. I was surprised to see alcohol included in the welcome drink, but I was even more impressed by the all-you-can-drink option at dinner. I had a very enjoyable and relaxing time.

We loved this hotel; it's much cuter in person than in the photos. Everything was very clean and well-maintained. They have private bathrooms, two inside and two outside. They were very clean and had everything you need (shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, hairdryer, etc.). We had no problem using them since there was always one available. You could hear a little noise from the other rooms, but the guests...
The hotel is clean, tidy, and practical.
Directions from the station exit. Walk up the hill on the left hand side for a couple of minutes. You will see a liquor store and food store. Turn left into this street. There is a little shrine on the corner and the Manten No Hoshi is a couple of doors down on the left. We stayed three nights and found it to be good value. Our room was on the ground floor. Consider this if you have mobility issues...
Access to private onsen, both indoor and outdoor, was great for the family.
The hot spring is good, the hotel is basically fully self-service, suitable for people
Its a very quiet, beautiful spot close to stations to travel to hakone and the baths were lovely! Its nice to walk around the area. The man running the hotel spoke english pretty well, my non japanese speaking friend had no issues at all. It's a good place, for the first time I managed to live in a traditional Japanese style, I liked everything, I advise everyone!
I originally thought that the Hakone Onsen Hotel was too expensive and the cost-effectiveness of traveling alone was not high, so I chose a youth hostel. The experience of 3 days and 2 nights was more than I expected. An old man received me when I checked in that day. Although he had an accent in English, it did not affect communication and understanding at all, and there was no communication difficulty...
Clean and sanitary, with hot spring facilities. The service was excellent Suitable for solo travel But the location is really bad There are only one or two buses passing by in an hour, otherwise you have to walk up the mountain for 10-15 minutes.
This is a wonderful hostel with an indoor and outdoor Onsen. It has a lovely living area and a well kitted out kitchen with free tea and coffee. The staff are all very welcoming and very helpful. My two teenage girls loved staying here. Just to note, it is an uphill walk from the train station. There is a bus but it is not very frequent.
Hot spring hotel. Not many people in winter. It is very convenient to walk from Odakyu Line. It is very convenient to have Hakone Ticket. The outdoor hot spring is great.
Booked this onsen hostel last minute because I needed a room with a toilet. I didn’t try their onsen, but the bathroom was okay—though there aren’t many amenities provided. They do offer laundry service, which you can enquire about. There’s a lounge area available, though I didn’t use it during my stay. You can take a bus to get there, but there’s still a bit of walking involved, and it’s on a steep...

Very beautiful stay. The staff were more welcoming and sleeping on tatamis was great for my back.
Wonderful facilities, kitchen was well equipped for cooking, bathrooms are fast with hot water, rooms are comfortable..And the common space? poetry Staff are super friendly and helpful Near a bus station and train station, easy to get there! a lot of previous memories were made, wished i stayed longer..!
Coolest hostel I have ever stayed in Japan, the staff was so friendly and everyday was a vibe. I really enjoyed talking with the staff at night, also met some really cool solo travelers as well. The kitchen is super nice and spacious and the dinner is super cute.
The atmosphere was fantastic, and they even had a campfire BBQ at night. The hotel has a kitchen, so you can buy ingredients and cook for yourself, and there's a 7-Eleven and Lawson nearby, which is really convenient for grabbing things. Overall, it was a very comfortable stay, and I plan to recommend it to my friends.
Cool authentic Japanese rekan experience, clean environment, good kitchen and bathroom facilities, friendly and communicative staff. Thank you!
Beautiful common area, Japanese style, everything is clean and tidy, large kitchen, the staff is very noisy in the evenings, unfortunately, it is very audible (overall a good place)

Nice guesthouse in the mountain. Very helpful and nice staff. Privacy in dorm. Onsen in the shower.
If you're particular about dust on windowsills and walls, or the hygiene of bedding (excluding the covers), you might want to reconsider booking. While the duvet cover was clean, it's just a single cover, so as you toss and turn in your sleep, your body inevitably touches the duvet itself. However, considering the insane accommodation prices in Hakone, this place is incredibly, truly cheap! The location...
Our first Rykon experience was so memorable for us. We enjoyed every moment of it. The service was perfect. Room service was so enjoyable. The only thing that I didn’t like was the food, food was ok, it wasn’t as perfect as other services. Also I would like to have some options to choose between for the food not being obligated for just one type of dish. Private onsen was the best part. It was so quite
My husband and I visited Hakone Tokinoshizuku in December 2025 and the stayed in the deluxe room La Tache. The Service was incredible., our concierge Yuka gave us a wonderful and personalized experience. We definitely would return for the wonderful meals served in our room and the private open air onsen among the trees. Our room was traditional Japanese style and was very charming down to every detail...
Beautiful hotel, friendly staff, amazing view. The private Onsen was so relaxing, especially in the cooler weather. We had the five-course dinner and breakfast all delivered to our room. Special thanks to Yurika-san for explaining our meals and making us feel at home. The whole experience was unforgettable. One of the nicest hotel rooms I've ever stayed in. Felt more like an apartment.
Nice guesthouse, very cosy and calm. We stayed in the family room which can fit for up to 6 persons, it was big enough and the futon were confortables. The bar serves some basic foods which is ok but I would recommand to eat in one of the restaurants in town if you want something really tasty, it's not far away (10-15 minutes walk).

Cozy guesthouse in Hakone, ideal for couples or to travel alone. Comfy matress and bedding and facilities are very clean too. Friendly owners and staff. Highly recommended, would visit again :-)
I chose this hotel because of its price and proximity to the station, but it was even more comfortable than I expected. The staff were friendly, I was allowed to bring my towels into the hot springs, and the beds and shared showers were well-cleaned. Overall, it was a great stay!
The hostel was really clean, and the beds were surprisingly spacious. Every area was spotless. The lady at the front desk was super friendly; we chatted a lot, and she even helped me plan my itinerary. She even said goodnight to me when she saw me still in the kitchen in the evening. A really great experience! 👍
A unique place. It's a small box, and while it's not far to anywhere in Hakone, it's a steep climb to the hotel. The hot water taps are a bit odd. The girl at reception is very friendly and speaks excellent English, and explains everything in detail. I asked to reserve a hot spring, and she agreed without any problem (everything was booked in the end).
Facilities: Outdated Cleanliness: Meets standards Environment: Actually very good, with a great atmosphere. The beds are the largest I've ever stayed in; four people could easily sleep in one. Service: Average. You can ask someone to help with your luggage, but it's a bit awkward to ask female staff for help. Most things are self-service, but there's a kitchen available, and you can also order food...
The environment was fine, and the facilities were complete. However, the blankets smelled strongly of body odor, which was awful. The quality of the bedding needs improvement.

Enjoyed the full Japanese guest house experience, welcome was excellent and the outside hot spring (onsen) was amazing. Rooms basic as expected and local restaurant (China House) for dumplings and noodles was great value and the food was gorgeous.
Everything is great, the hotel has two onsen, both are excellent, the owner is friendly, speaks English well, everything is clean, and most importantly - he is friendly, it is clear that the owner is really trying
