Such an amazing experience!! Experienced the best hospitality from the couple that owns this ryokan - they did everything to make sure our stay was perfect. The room, onsen, and ryokan as a whole were all fabulous.

Tsukinoya is easily the most magical place we’ve ever stayed. We stayed three nights, but wish that we’d stayed longer. The couple who own Tsukinoya are the sweetest, most helpful people. The gentleman carried our luggage up three flights of stairs to our room, and insisted on driving us to our destination multiple times. The onsen honestly was a life-changer. We used the one on the first floor and never had to wait for it. I wish we had facilities like this in the US. The individual rooms at Tsukinoya don’t have showers, but I promise, it’s for the best. My partner and I loved our nightly and morning trips down to the Tsukinoya onsen. It gave us privacy together to talk, to plan our day or to reminisce about the day, to refresh and relax. We had made plans at another onsen in Hakone to go spend a couple of hours, but traffic caused us to miss our reservation. Honestly, we weren’t even upset. We just went back to Tsukinoya and enjoyed their onsen. Our room was beautiful (we were in the Matsengu, or “full moon” room), and the AC unit kept us cool in the late summer heat. Even just the walk up the stairs to our room was always enjoyable because they’ve done a fantastic job decorating the ryokan. The view from our windows of Hakone’s roofs and the mountains was absolutely gorgeous. We loved sitting at our table on the tatami and enjoying snacks from the nearby 7-11. The room included a refrigerator so we could store our many 7-11 snacks, and also very cute little sake glasses. Of note, the 7-11 is within easy downhill walking distance, but ask about the shortcut up the stairs and through the shrine to get back - we took the hill the first night and it was rough, but after the gentleman showed us the stairs it was much easier! The owners also supplied us with hot water multiple times daily, so we could enjoy cup noodles in our room (my partner also enjoyed the tea they supplied). They also supply yukata for the onsen! Tsukinoya is a really special place. This is easily one of my favorite places I’ve ever stayed in my life. If you’re considering it, don’t pass it up. And if you’re Western and not used to an onsen-style bath, just keep an open mind and try it! Don’t let the lack of showers in each room put you off. Take the time to go with your travel companions down to the onsen and really enjoy it. It is SO worth it.

This place is absolutely special and we 100% recommend it. We wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big cities and the Hakone area seemed to have everything we needed. We also wanted to try a traditional ryokan and this place hit all the check points: it is traditional, maybe a little outdated but it is part of the charm, in a good area and it has 2 onsens which you can use it private for 50 mins at any time (even at night). The rooms were big, sleeping on tatami very comfortable and it ia definitely a huge advantage to have a private toilet and sink. The shower is in the onsen area. There are 2 onsens very unique looking, we enjoyed them a lot. It was easy to reach it (easiest by bus from Odawara) and easy to do the Hakone loop. The owners are the best, we sincerely thank them for making our stay so good!

To start with, I think it was a really good experience. There are two onsen in the facility which is available for 24 hours. Both of them are private so you will not be sharing with anyone else. The owners were really good people, especially okamisan. She was really caring and always helped us during our stay. The restaurants and facilities around the ryokan is limited. If you want to dine outside for the day, you should make reservation beforehand, otherwise they won't be accepting you. The room was really clean and so good. I wanted to stay longer and experience more but unfortunately there was not enough time. There are always cheaper or more central options compared to Tsukinoya. Yet, I am more than sure that you will not be experiencing the same level of experience if you stay in a franchise hotels in Hakone.

This traditional ryokan has a private onsen, with a traditional Japanese rooms with tatami mats, we had a magical experience staying here. We transformed back to old time Japan. Above everything else, the couple who runs the place are the most gracious hosts, they took care of us as if we are the only 2 guests in the place, insisted on driving us to wherever we were about to go, always smiling and laughing, as if they were our family. Staying here is an experience to always remember. The location itself is quite and relaxing, short hikes, shrines ans a lake.

Wonderful hosts- the best part of our stay were the owners. They drove us to dinner and Gora, gave us waters for our outings and made us feel like family. The rooms were comfortable and the hot springs were great. Easy to reserve the onsen, private toilet. You shower where you do the onsen. A highlight of our trip!

Leaving the Ryokan this morning, we felt like we were leaving our Japanese grandparents. The owners are incredibly kind and attentive to their guests. The ryokan is accessible from the H bus, stop 133. For the rest of your stay, the owner will take you to the starting points of the tours, in our case, to the cable car. The room is family-friendly and rustic but has all the necessary comfort. The establishment has two Onsen supplied by hot water from local springs. No catering on site but there is what you need within a 5-minute walk. For breakfast, just do some shopping at the 7/11 open 24/7. In short, we are won over. We will not forget the hospitality of our hosts and once again, their smiles and their kindness.

We stated 2 nights at this onsen hotel. considering the price the room was acceptable however very dirty and old in a very unpleasant way. However the worst part was the hotel owner. Continuesly muttering, seende to be angry and upset. When we asked questions he simply ordered us what to do never listened. I felt very uncomfortable and almost thretened. He made reservations at a restaurant for us as we planned to celebrate birthday and our last night in Japan. The owner came and ordered us to come 1h early - otherwise we would not get any food beacause everything else was closed. We ha a special evening planned which was destroyed and there were other restaurants opened. Overall a VERY unpleasant stay.
