5 star hotels in Funchal

The room was nice, and room service was good, but one day it wasn't cleaned properly.

Clean and comfortable hotel with friendly and helpful staff. The room was well maintained, and all basic amenities worked well

Due to a cancelled flight, we had an extra day and decided to stay here again. We booked a slightly smaller family suite, but it was still very spacious. With two large beds and a small sofa bed, it easily accommodated four of us. We spent the unexpected extra day relaxing at the hotel, enjoying the beautiful scenery and delicious food. The hotel restaurant charges the same as places outside, and there...

Everything is great, but parking is inconvenient.

The hotel is in a great location - near to ocean promenade ( lido complex -15 mins by foot), restaurants , super markets . Breakfast spread was also good so was the views from room both city ans ocean view eoom

The hotel service is very good, the room is very clean, you can put together a big bed or split it into two single beds, the room is large, although the hotel has a long history, it is well maintained, there are indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and there is snorkeling on the sea. The hotel is built by the sea with beautiful scenery. The lower part of the hotel has one side against the cliff, similar...

The experience was mediocre. The room was small, and the number of towels provided was limited. The restaurants changed frequently, meaning I didn't get to try both during my short stay. The large buffet restaurant's food was too ordinary for the price. The staff were extremely rude. I was getting water outside the buffet outside of dinner time, and they actually knocked on the glass and yelled...

An amazing stay, well maintained property , good food options and wonderful staff. Will definitely go again.

Had a lovely break and were surprised with an upgraded room. Couldn’t fault anything. The indoor pool was lovely and warm. Great hotel with so much on offer

amazing, visit this place againt!

Absolutely Gem of a place with great staff and high standards throughout. By far the best all inclusive hotel I have stayed at

Since it was all-inclusive, we were able to eat and drink at one of the restaurants. The restaurant I recommend is an Italian cafe called VELA DI CANALE. They offer all-you-can-eat hot pizza, and if you time it right, they'll even bake you your own pizza with your favorite toppings. The pool was spacious and we were able to relax. I'd love to stay here again.

Very good service, but some part of the hotel is starting to get old.

Friendly staff; restaurant food ok; entertainment ok; lots of areas to sit and relax

The view was fantastic, but the facilities were too old. The service was very attentive and meticulous. I stayed for five nights, tried different cocktails, and watched the sunset. It was a nice old hotel.

Other than the location being quite a long way to walk to town, very quiet area with little options of bars around the area, ideal for someone who enjoys the full benefits of peace and quiet

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We had an exceptional 10-day stay at this hotel! The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived. The buffet service was amazing with a great variety of desserts, fruits, and fresh salads every day. While the food selection was overall very good, we would’ve loved to see more beef and chicken options, as there was a lot of pork and fish. The pool area is beautiful...

The property was disappointed, it was not what I expected. The food was not as great, choices were limited, there was more pork than I wanted. The mattress was thin and old, I did not get any good sleep. On good note the property was clean and the staff was great.

The room (suite) is very old. The sofa is stained, the shower is moldy, the shower is broken and doesn't attach to the wall, the tropical shower doesn't work, the kettle is in a place without an outlet, the safe is old with fallen buttons, half the outlets don't work. The bathroom smells like sewage. They give you one bottle of water in the room (0.33%))) Since the hotel is located almost by the port...

Everything was great! Thank you

A very, very nice hotel. Ms. Rita at the front desk was very friendly and gave me a great room. The night view at night was also beautiful. You can see the magnificent Atlantic Ocean at the breakfast area. There are many types of breakfast, especially fruits.

The swimming pool was cold, there was no toothpaste , no electric kettle in the room, no complimentary water, the room was outdated, the shower was very old and difficult to use, in all honesty this hotel room was a 2 star at best. The reception area was indeed a 5 star and that was it.

This hotel is generally ok. But some staff needs training as I had very hard time to program my room key, which receptionist fails to do so 3 times during check in which was really annoying as I arrived to hotel after very long flight.

The location is not only conveniently situated but also offers stunning surroundings that enhance the overall experience. The facility itself is thoughtfully designed, combining modern amenities with a welcoming atmosphere, ensuring that every guest feels comfortable and well-accommodated

Although the hotel is a bit old, the rooms are spacious and in a great location, facing the Atlantic Ocean with beautiful sea views. The hotel's food is also of high quality, with a fantastic breakfast and a very reasonable dinner, making it a very cost-effective choice.

Nice hotel but old fashioned. We missed the spark. Everything is the hotel is outdated. A refreshment would be good. Breakfast is nice.

Everything was great. Kudos to the front desk staff, particularly João (who welcomed us) and Carla (who professionally helped us with the late check out). All were great, including the restaurant staff and pool area support. The room had all the amenities promised and the location was fantastic.

Great location But the hotel is very outdated, including its aesthetics. Mostly retirees. The breakfast food is weak, and the dinner is 3-star at best.

The Hotel was Good , however Bar refreshments were at limited times During the Day, no Alcohol till 4pm . This was Poor as your on Holiday in a Warm Climate.

Fantastic stuff for the check-in which upgraded me to a much higher category because of my birthday the hotel is spotless clean. overall highly recommended first day in Madeira

Had a great stay at Protobay. The service was amazing, the rooms were very clean, and the views were beautiful. The rooms are a little outdated, but the breakfast buffet was excellent, and the complimentary bottle of wine was a lovely touch. Toiletries were Bulgari and slippers provided.

For a long time I wanted to stay and did read many reviews the hotel is all people rave about and more ! Amazing balcony views and i did enjoy the view of the Port of Funchal it really has the best location in Funchal . The rooms are spacious with a very private balcony (6th floor) extremely comfortable beds. The service was excellent from everyone we met .

The hotel was marvellous in every way and we will certainly be returning next year.

Lovely property but had unbelievable service in other hotels we stayed at. The Cliff Bay hotel the Staff couldn’t care if you were there or not. Very difficult to find pool staff , restaurant , poor recommendations from reception staff etc - often just did it ourselves. Very surprised as we are not demanding at all but For the premium price I expect premium service . The other hotels we stayed at...

Beautiful hotel with lots of touches that elevated it- the flower displays are stunning, the staff are friendly, helpful and attentive. Breakfast was fabulous. We will be back !

Gorgeous property and amenities. ‘Make dinner reservations early as restaurants fill.

We stayed here for 10 nights and on the whole we enjoyed our stay. The location is fabulous, right on the coast, the gardens and grounds were lovely and well maintained. The rooms were big, and nice balcony and outlook. The cleanliness of the hotel was superb, I’ve never seen such a clean pool area, loved being in the pool! Cleaning of room was great and friendly staff. 2 negatives that have to be...

We had a good stay, the reception staff are very welcoming and friendly. Room was clean and there was plenty of spare towels, pillows etc. We went on half board basis. Although there was plenty of food, it lacked taste. Buffet menu needs to improve, especially the hot food for vegetarians. Very insipid. Also we felt cheated because we asked for tap water at dinner and got charged for it! The head...

Another island trip Overall this is not what you would expect from 5 star hotel. Especially for the price that we paid we expected a bit more. Food was very good.

The property was very clean and all decor was like knew. The staff were excellent and very helpful. The room was cleaned every day and the furniture was like knew. There was always plenty to eat and would suit all tastes. We had an excellent holiday with no downsides.

The room was spacious and comfortable, the breakfast and dinner were great. The location was very good, close to a very good shopping mall, the sea view was very beautiful, and the nearby cliff caves were also worth a visit.

Nothing's unique about this property! Food is good but the selection is poor.

Our. Short stay at Reid’s has been an excellent experience All the staff have been friendly, helpful, polite and hospitable The hotel has a beautiful aspect overlooking the Atlantic The gardens are tranquil, the swimming pools immaculate We would come back without hesitation

We were welcomed and given a tour of the historic hotel by the front desk upon arrival. The room upgrade was to a suite overlooking the bay. The room, bed, and bath were clean and comfortable. A small gift arrived each day of our stay. The 1891 Bar proved to be an excellent alternative as we preferred early and smaller dinners. The Christmas brunch had excellent food options; it was a buffet next...

The amenities were lovely. The staff was impeccable - such thoughtfulness and care.

Magnificent place. Magnificent staff magnificent breakfast. Magnificent. Nothing else to say

Beautiful place to stay when in Madeira. Very attentive staff. Caesar salad by the pool was a highlight after an adventure in the morning. Very relaxing and convenient location.

Incredible hotel! The staff is amazing. So friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The grounds, rooms, and views are stunning. The sea pool is beyond and the diving boards are so much fun. We brought our 8 month old and they provided a crib, stuffed animal, and adorable backpack. The staff was also very sweet with the baby and offered a high chair at every meal. We also really enjoyed the thoughtful...

We stayed at the Royal Savoy for a week and enjoyed our stay. The property is well located on the water (but has no beach), walking distance from the old town. We had a ground floor garden room which we enjoyed as we had easy access to the pool area. The hotel has two big outdoor pools (but only one is heated), an indoor pool, a small gym and a padel court. Our room was sufficiently spacious with...

Amazing experience at Royal Savoy Madeira. Everything about the stay felt special. The staff are incredibly attentive and friendly — they often help you even before you ask, like bringing sun umbrellas near the sea or the pool, which makes you feel really taken care of. The rooms are very cozy and extremely well equipped, making it easy to relax and enjoy the stay. The weather was just perfect during...

This is an elegant, quiet hotel in possibly the best location in Funchal, so convenient for the port, marina and town. We had a junior suite, which was large and comfortable. The food is excellent and the staff can’t do enough to help. While I would say the rooms need a gentle refurbishment, nevertheless this was a comfortable and classy stay.

Lovely gardens and grounds 3 Pools inc swim up and indoor Gym and spa with steam room and sauna Great location 15-20 min walk into Funchal Two dining area options plus bar/pool snacks Thatchers Bar great views Live entertainment/music every night Well equipped galley kitchens in studio rooms inc hob microwave and dishwasher All room amenities as expected Staff okay but not overly friendly Had issues...

Beautiful hotel set in a great location within walking distance from Funchal centre. Well kept gardens and pool area with plenty of sun loungers and comfortable seating areas. Our room was stunning with amazing views. All staff were friendly and professional. Excellent breakfast and evening meal.

What a fabulous hotel, city and island! Had the most wonderful week. Such a beautiful setting . Staff were wonderful, so friendly and professional. Food incredible and cocktails to die for ! Thatchers bar is a fantastic place to sit for a pre dinner drink. Can’t really fault it. Madeira offers so much to do and the amount of restaurants within a half hour walking distance is incredible! We loved it...

Friendly snd modern hotel in lively teee filled garden which gave it a great feel. Fab view of fireworks. Fonood pk. Lovely room No electric charging points for cars

Check in and bed sheet quality can be improved. Good breakfast. H

The staff at Quinta da Bela Vista are true professionals and make sure every detail of service is perfect. You're surrounded by old world charm and class and it's a treat to stay there. Located in an unassuming neighborhood, you drive through the gates to a little eden with beautiful gardens and wonderful accommodations. Food was excellent. But it's really the staff that make the hotel shine.

Did not meet expectations Old fashioned and creaky without aircon and a smell in the bathroom. The bikes in the gym were poor (one broken, the other unreadable display). Parking space inadequate. We dined out, so nearly every night we had to park on the street. Suites don't have balconies or dedicated showers. Only over bath versions at a height suitable for people under 6ft.

I liked the fact the hotel was quiet and tucked out of the way from the hustle and bustle of central Funchal with good views and surrounding scenery. My room was very spacious and comfortable (superior double) and worth every penny. The staff were all very welcoming and most helpful with any requests such as booking taxis or giving advice about local activities and trips. My only slight criticism...

Property was very nice but furniture and room was very old. Pillows were flat and AC was slow to cool. Pool is very nice. Food was ok. Bugs in my room unfortunately

We stayed here for our anniversary and were blown away by the quality of the Vine hotel. The room was high tech and spacious. The hotel staff are extremely helpful and polite. The breakfast is superb. It is in a perfect location in Funchal. Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel special during our stay here.

I have mixed feelings about my stay. On the positive side, the breakfast was very good, and the view from the pool area is truly beautiful. However, the overall style of the hotel really didn't appeal to me. Although it has won numerous design awards, I found the layout and aesthetic to be very impractical. Most importantly, I didn't sleep well there, which is the main thing I look for in a hotel...

We stayed at the Vine Hotel for our honeymoon and for new years. The hotel is lovely and staff friendly, with cleaners asking each day if we would like our room cleaned which was lovely. They also left us prosecco and chocolates with a nice note to celebrate our honeymoon and we had a gorgeous couples massage by Katerina & Emma in the spa. On the first day at breakfast they also noted that I was vegan...

Top notch hotel in a great central location for all the sights in Funchal. Room was a good size with enough plug sockets (!) and decent lighting - even if that was a bit of a challenge to work out at first. Staff were superb; friendly, helpful and good humoured in the terrible weather we had (storm Emelia). Good gym facility and excellent spa with jacuzzi and relaxation area that were very welcome...

Overall, I was very satisfied with the resort hotel; the rooms were very comfortable. I felt quite relaxed over the next few days, especially enjoying the breakfasts, which were excellent for several days in a row.

Everything was great, a stylish hotel. Only minor flaws like a split duvet or peeling paint prevented it from being a perfect stay.

Hotel situated in a good location, it has a very relaxed atmosphere and the hotel grounds are out of this world. The rooms are very clean and the bed are very comfortable. The bathroom had everything you could want and was spotlessly clean. Great views from the balcony and a very comfortable room. The location of the hotel makes the surrounding area very quiet, and the general noise level was...

This was our 12th visit to Quinta Jardins do Lago and it was just as good as the other eleven. The hotel itself is exceptionally pretty and comfortable but the staff are, without exception, superb. They are attentive and welcoming and treat the guests as individuals. After our first visit we have never considered staying anywhere else in Madeira.

Our third visit over the past few years AND, we wouldn't stay anywhere else! Ambience, gardens, food, staff, accommodation, are all 5 Stars! OK, one could say the place is somewhat dated, BUT, it never looses its charm and draw to return. A wonderful and pleasant stay, once again

The hotel is very charming, and the surrounding gardens are beautiful and spacious. Big swimming-pool and lots of space to relax. The city-centre is easily reachable by short Uber-ride (they also have a free transfer at the hotel). The quinta itself is stunning and has many historic features. Our room was big and the bed was comfortable, the bathroom had a decent size. However the room was slightly...

A beautiful hotel and gardens with lovely staff. Thoroughly recommend. Sorry I can't recall his name but the new chap on the reception desk was particularly helpful.

Lovely hotel ideally positioned close to Funchal with free bus to take guests to and fro. Very friendly staff and exceptionally good food. Magnificent swimming pool set in spectacular garden. If you get a chance to be shown round the garden by the botanist Michael who looks after it, take it! He is wonderfully enthusiastic and amazingly knowledgeable.

Spent a wonderful week at this fabulous hotel at the end of January. All of the staff, without exception, were superb and very hardworking and I felt well looked after. My room was spacious and immaculate - very clean. Reception staff were welcoming and approachable. The bar is very comfortable with plenty of room and the bar staff were very friendly, remembering my preferences from day to day...

Spent a wonderful 4 nights at this elegant, well run, well staffed hotel. It was our first visit to Madeira and the hotel made it a pleasurable one. The rooms are spacious and the bed very comfortable. Our room had a balcony over looking the gardens (nice touch). There is a courtesy bus that runs during the week that takes guests too and from Funchal. The restaurant, including breakfast, was excellent...

Despite some unique qualities of this hotel (beautiful grounds, unique and charming interior decoration) the stay did not meet my expectations. Room had some maintenance issues and there is no iron or ironing board available for guest use, only a laundry service that requires pre booking.

Our review will be short and sweet as there is not much we can say that had not been said before. A Gem Perfect beautifully appointed, lovely antiques Amazing staff Like many before we have stayed in many hotels around the world and this one you will find hard to beat keep this hotel a secret x

What an amazing find…. This hotel is practically perfect. 42 rooms - ours had a huge comfy bed, sofa , desk, balcony overlooking the beautiful gardens, and so much more. A few welcome goodies in the fridge and bottled water replenished each day. The breakfasts and dinners were delicious and so well presented with loads of choice. The bar was comfy and also served small plates and tapas all day. But...

Our tenth visit to the Island and our fifth visit to this hotel. So you can guess we rather like it. Everything was as expected. A lovely characterful hotel with great rooms and facilities. Excellent restaurant for lovely breakfast and dinner. A good bar with a pleasant outside area which leads into a really nice garden. But as I say every year, the best bit are the staff. Whether in reception, restaurant...

Fantastic stay at this wonderful hotel. Spotlessly clean rooms and super friendly and helpful staff. The restaurant food wss excellent. A free courtesy bus is provided on weekdays to take you to and from the town centre.

The hotel was beautiful, with great facilities, and extremely clean throughout. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful, particularly Emanuel in the restaurant, who made our stay in your hotel even better! The lady Chef Mrs Tania even took the time to make me a birthday cake, which was such a kind thing to do. We have stayed in many hotels throughout Europe, and Quinta Mirabela has...

As literally a last minute booking, and not having visited Madeira before, we were pleasantly surprised to find this boutique 5* hotel at such an affordable price, with superb facilities including a restaurant serving outstanding food, along with a very relaxing spa and pool. What really made this hotel stand out though was the staff. Mr Paulo Franco and his team were both friendly and professional...

A boutique hotel that gives off a warm glow: personable, helpful service from all the staff; with views that are breathtaking of Funchal and the ocean. Public spaces are tasteful and very relaxing. Bedroom very quiet, clean and comfortable. Breakfast wide ranging: cooked ingredients, pastries, fruit, yogurts, granola and all delicious. We went half board and looked forward each evening to dinner -...

The hotel was good but I think 5-star is a bit too much. It’s a standard 4-star hotel. Location is close to Funchal but having a rental car is a must. Hotel also has a parking lot which is very good considering it being a challenge in many areas

Wonderful stay! Property was excellent. Food amazing and views were spectacular.

As always, our stay at Les Suites at The Cliff Bay was absolutely wonderful. The hotel combines elegance, comfort, and outstanding hospitality in every detail. The suites are beautiful and impeccably maintained, the atmosphere is peaceful and luxurious, and the views are breathtaking. What truly makes this property special is the exceptional staff. Every team member was warm, attentive, and highly...

We had a wonderfully comfortable ten nights in this beautiful hotel, steeped in luxury in a room with stunning views across the ocean. We had a duplex suite which had plenty of space and a bathroom on each floor. All the soft drinks in the mini bar were complimentary and the private lift very useful for transporting heavy cases! It’s blissfully quiet and the staff are all delightful. The highlight...

When we have visited Madeira we always liked to come back to Les Suites. It is a cozy, aesthetic place with a welcoming, friendly and professional staff. Excellent location, delicious food and a harmonious place for a siesta and relaxation. It's one of my two favorite places in Madeira

We have stayed at Les Suites several times and it continues to be our favourite place to stay. Everyone and everything is high standard mainly because the same staff work tirelessly to maintain exceptional service. The Suites have very comfortable rooms with incredible views. We are always sad to leave.

Wonderful hotel walkable to downtown Funchal. It is an incredible in many ways from the palm trees and infinity pool overlooking the sea to beautiful food, helpful staff and wonderful accommodations.

The views from this hotel are splendid. The rooms are sumptuous, large, comfortable and tasteful. This is a hotel where attention to detail is achieved without fuss. The staff in this hotel are superb - friendly, helpful, dedicated and professional. They speak multiple languages and make everyone feel comfortable. The food was delicious and we had a chance to meet the chef and see the kitchens, wine...
