During check-in, they provided a thorough introduction to the facilities and even personally guided us around, explaining everything (perhaps because the beachfront pool was accessed via the back garden)

Room cleaned daily, very comfortable bed & lovely hot shower. Continental breakfast, had to eat inside as there were pigeons on the patio. Joes bar on the premises & an English bar across the road

Just as we were checking out, we witnessed a guest in the lobby suddenly choking. The front desk staff quickly sprang into action, performing the Heimlich maneuver and saving a life. All in all, everything was fantastic

Wonderful experience and the best hotel during our stay in Madeira. Perfect price and value proposition with a staff who are really customers oriented and friendly. Smaller hotel what is never overcrowded

The rooms are somewhat dated but super clean and comfortable. I didn't came here to see golden chandeliers so l was super satistied! Excellent location and direct sea access. What more could one look for??

A traditional hotel approx half an hour walk to the Old Town but with steep hill so might not suit older person to walk. Room was spacious with large balcony and had fabulous views of the sea and garden

The hotel service is excellent- it is efficient, the staff clearly care and want their guests to feel well looked after, nothing is too much trouble and if they can they will ! This hotel was recommended to us by a friend and I can understand why and why in turn I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to others

It feels quite special to be given a key to the gate! Want somewhere to eat in the evening - just a little way up the hill go to Goldi’s and try the scabbard fish with banana (you can get pizza at home!)

What a fabulous find this was! Such a little oasis hidden behind a large green door. Three traditional villas, with a modern addition housing a really great indoor pool and additional rooms

All based around the lovely gardens and outdoor pool. Gabriel and the lovely ladies serving the very nice breakfast could not have been more welcoming (our flight was delayed)

The rooms are large and well furnished with everything you would need, including a sitting area - fridge and balcony or veranda

The hotel provides a characterful bar area and a lovely glass extension used for breakfast dining. The breakfasts are varied and plentiful providing hot and cold options

The hotel restaurant charges the same as places outside, and there are plenty of options across the street, plus a supermarket. Buying drinks and snacks to enjoy back in the room was also a lovely treat

With two large beds and a small sofa bed, it easily accommodated four of us. We spent the unexpected extra day relaxing at the hotel, enjoying the beautiful scenery and delicious food

The pool is saltwater, so it's best to keep your head above water when swimming. There's another pool a few levels down, and if you're a strong swimmer, you can even go for a dip in the sea

Due to a cancelled flight, we had an extra day and decided to stay here again. We booked a slightly smaller family suite, but it was still very spacious

Thanks to the beautiful and enthusiastic Ms. Erica at the front desk for giving us a perfect experience. The hotel has a great location. There are many delicious restaurants just outside

The room was nice, and room service was good, but one day it wasn't cleaned properly.

The room was small, and the number of towels provided was limited. The restaurants changed frequently, meaning I didn't get to try both during my short stay

They offer all-you-can-eat hot pizza, and if you time it right, they'll even bake you your own pizza with your favorite toppings. The pool was spacious and we were able to relax

Had a lovely break and were surprised with an upgraded room. Couldn’t fault anything. The indoor pool was lovely and warm. Great hotel with so much on offer

Since it was all-inclusive, we were able to eat and drink at one of the restaurants. The restaurant I recommend is an Italian cafe called VELA DI CANALE

I simply mentioned it in the special instructions when booking the room, and on his birthday, the staff surprised him with a birthday cake delivered to our room. It meant so much to us and made the day extra special

Other than the location being quite a long way to walk to town, very quiet area with little options of bars around the area, ideal for someone who enjoys the full benefits of peace and quiet

We also really appreciated the snack bar with hot items—a great touch for between meals! One of the most memorable parts of our trip was celebrating my son’s birthday

While the food selection was overall very good, we would’ve loved to see more beef and chicken options, as there was a lot of pork and fish

But some staff needs training as I had very hard time to program my room key, which receptionist fails to do so 3 times during check in which was really annoying as I arrived to hotel after very long flight

My second stay at Alto Lido this year and it was even better than the first. Staff is professional and polite. I was kindly surprised with a room upgrade which was beautiful and comfortable

Amazing hotel, friendly staff. Got upgraded to a nicer room, view as obstructed by construction, but I won't complain as we got a bigger room. Parking was paid, but not to expensive.

The hotel is located near the embankment, has a good view of the ocean. Large rooms with a balcony. Wi-Fi is fast. Breakfasts are very varied and delicious.

We stayed for our honeymoon in Madeira and loved it! The spa amenities, daily breakfast buffet and of course the views were incredible. We rented a car from the front desk and that process was SO easy and seamless

For a long time I wanted to stay and did read many reviews the hotel is all people rave about and more ! Amazing balcony views and i did enjoy the view of the Port of Funchal it really has the best location in Funchal

The service was amazing, the rooms were very clean, and the views were beautiful. The rooms are a little outdated, but the breakfast buffet was excellent, and the complimentary bottle of wine was a lovely touch

Cliff Bay - Top of the Line Cliff Bay is an excellent hotel. The rooms, service, happy hour, breakfast, pool, spa… all great.

Everything about this hotel is wonderful from the check-in process to the check-out process. The buffets offer something for everyone. There are also very good restaurants and shopping center within walking distance

The hotel has many beautiful photo zones with views of the ocean and the sunrise! Luxurious terrace! Outdoor pool and jacuzzi are not with ice water, we went in the winter without any problems

The hotel location was OK but on balance we would have preferred being a little closer to Funchal. We did however take advantage of the free shuttle to and from Funchal

The hotel offers a free shuttle service to the marina. The staff is very nice and accommodating. This was our first time here but won't be the last time

Returned last week from a weeks holiday here at the Bia Azul Hotel. Unfortunately, toward the end of the week, my wife slipped on a wet floor just after entering the hotel, crashing to the ground and breaking her leg

The property was very clean and all decor was like knew. The staff were excellent and very helpful. The room was cleaned every day and the furniture was like knew. There was always plenty to eat and would suit all tastes

The mattresses were really soft at first but I ended up sleeping well. The internet is very weak, but somehow everywhere on the island, not enough to work in my opinion

We felt very comfortable at the Pestana Grand Hotel. The clientele of guests was 60+, but that didn't bother us. The food could have been a little more seasoned and after a week of half board it was enough

2 negatives that have to be stated to give a true reflection of the hotel… the food is definitely sub par, we had the buffet 2 nights and 3 nights in the Al a carte dining. The breakfast is ok, but nothing special

The staff for the most part a really nice maids and kitchen staff. The incumbent check in staff need to say I don’t know when they are asked question they don’t know. The new moto should be “If you don’t know Ask”

Turn left out of hotel and walk 20 mins and some great restaurants got to try Bistrot Des Agnes. Turn right and 25 mins walk into Funchal. We’re coming back and will definitely stay at Porto Mare again

Room was great and the hotel picked up from the passports that it was my wife’s birthday and left some bubbles for us when we returned from a Levada walk

We were welcomed and given a tour of the historic hotel by the front desk upon arrival. The room upgrade was to a suite overlooking the bay. The room, bed, and bath were clean and comfortable

A small gift arrived each day of our stay. The 1891 Bar proved to be an excellent alternative as we preferred early and smaller dinners. The Christmas brunch had excellent food options; it was a buffet next to the pools

Wonderful stay in the wonderful Reid's Palace! Beautiful, tranquil surroundings a mere 15-20 min walk from Funchal. We stayed in a Superior Room which was spacious and comfortable

We stayed at the Royal Savoy for a week and enjoyed our stay. The property is well located on the water (but has no beach), walking distance from the old town

Our room was sufficiently spacious with a small outdoor area. Staff were nice for the most part. The price for a stay over Easter was fair especially with breakfast included and the daily food/drink allowance

There are some things the resort could do better though: (1) food quality should be better; (2) the beds were too firm for us; (3) very few daytime on-site activities (including nothing for the padel court - there is a good padel centre 2kms away)

We had a ground floor garden room which we enjoyed as we had easy access to the pool area. The hotel has two big outdoor pools (but only one is heated), an indoor pool, a small gym and a padel court

The staff is friendly, the room is a good size and everything was clean. The room has a mini fridge, slippers and robes. They also provide pool towels

A pleasent stay Stayed here over the new year for about a week. The hotel is very clean and the staff is very helpful and friendly. The location of the hotel is good and the ocean view from the balcony is beautiful

And although the staff did provide us with a large mattress on top, it still isn’t quite the same thing as a real double bed. But these are minor things and the overall experience in the hotel was very nice

The pillows were a bit hard for me personally. And the bed is not a real double bed, but two small beds next to each other

All the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. I'd like to make a special mention to both Andre and Bruno, who were great conversation from behind the bar. If I come back to Madeira, this will be my first choice

Really nice touches like sweets in the lobby and places to refill water bottle. Gym and sauna area also great and could make a tea in there after along with the rooftop bar to watch the sunset

No ice bucket, snacks, shampoo, conditioner, lotion. Shower was very small and the bed was shot on one side, the other side of the bed was comfortable. No furniture on patio view of the ocean

Rooms are clean but some basic double bedrooms are super small. The bathrooms are nice and big though. Since youre in a tourist hotel, you will pay tourist prices. Staff is sweet. Daily housekeeping is good.

Hehe, it seems that we were upgraded to a room type, which is very nice. There are restaurants and supermarkets just up the hill from the hotel. It's just a little far from the city center

One day, me and the rest of the family were watching TV in the Hotel room and we heard a knock at the door and it was a women who handed us a load of Easter wrapped chocolates. It is easy to access the City

The bus station is right in front of the hotel. Don't have too much hope for breakfast, it's all white rice. I wanted to eat soup but there was none. The bath products are okay, at least they have a brand

The hotel is conveniently located in the old town. It's not on the coast, but that's a plus. The promenade is a 7-minute walk away. The breakfasts are excellent, with lots of fruit (papaya, bananas, pineapple, etc

Right on the waterfront and the restaurants in the old town are on your doorstep so why the 4* review? The outdoor swimming pool isn’t the best. Small, quite shallow and cold and only 1 small beach towel a day

Breakfast was very pleasant and we also had a drink in the Captain’s bar outside later, again excellent service and a nice ambience. Would definitely book here again if we were staying over in Funchal

We stay at the Porto Bay twice a year and the breakfasts have never let the hotel down. Plenty of hot and cold choices including pastries and various fresh fruits

Nice hotel. Good views of funchal. Not much else nearby. Hotel restaurant I'd ok. Better one 1km towatds funchal. 20 min walk. Shuttle bus to funchal very useful. Can get public transport from funchal to hotel

Hi the positive of this hotel is the staff especially Connie, lovely view of the sea but unfortunately there is a road outside the hotel (see photo) so you could not sit out there because all you could hear was traffic

Swimming pool had green at the bottom in the corners, sunbeds were stained and one ripped, so it looks neglected There is nowhere to dry swimming costumes on balcony, the hotel do provide pool towels

The food is very nice and the hotel very clean and beautifully managed. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. There is a hotel shuttle bus into town and taxis are easy to arrange. Also local buses stop outside

Lovely hotel with excellent facilities. As it is a little way out of the main town it is quieter. Six of us have just enjoyed a really lovely stay for a week
