We are currently staying at the occidental jandia royal level. Had high expectations but sadly not to be. The hotel is dated, tired, and amenities average at best. The food is average and monotonous - though drinks are excellent (good brands and readily available). Had to change rooms because the outlook looked over AC units. Unpacked in the next room and immediately the clothes rail in the wardrobe collapsed! - with clothes on it!! The hotel states WiFi throughout the hotel, it is not!! No WiFi in bedroom, intermittent around the swimming pool and other areas, should not be advertised as this, as it’s untrue. We have reported it but they ask what area and say it’s being worked on, no evidence of this. The Royal reception area has been updated but what about the rest of the areas. The à la carte restaurant is poor and basically a waste of time. The sunloungers around the Royal areas are tired, sagging, dipping in the middle and need updating. The saving grace are the staff, especially the bar/restaurant staff who work very hard and look after everyone. We have hardly seen any evening entertainment, it’s like a ghost town. We have never seen any managers around the hotel to be able to talk to, probably embarrassed and hiding away from customers. Other guests have the same opinions. Sorry to say we wouldn’t come back due to the tiredness of the hotel and would advise to look elsewhere. Very dissapointed. T

Stayed here for 1 week last week, having stayed in Royal Level previously. We are Unique Level Barcelo members, but we couldnt get access to our room until 3pm, which was a bit dissppointing. As usual the food and service across the hotel are super, and nothing is too much trouble for them. Special mention to Marta in the a la carte who is outstanding as is Maria in the Atlantico. One aspect that we felt wasnt quite right was the fact that anyone can now gain access to the Royal level side - people are just wandering into the corridors and onto poolside as the doors now dont work from the keycard!!!! We did see several people during the week with blue bands in the poolside area! We also saw a family with children outside the Verde Bar playing pool - also through the glass doors!!! Please tighten up on the security for the Royal Level - all access points should have a key card!! Apart from that it was a relaxing week, with nice food and drinks, and a few days of warm sunshine. We will return, but look forward to a more secure stay.

Excellent hotel, staying in Royal Level. Service from the staff is amazing especially Roxana on the pool bar and Daniel in the Royal Level restaurant who have looked after us through our stay. Rooms are good, pool area and bars exceptional. Cleaning staff are great and very friendly. Couldn’t fault anything about this hotel and its staff. Would definitely recommend. Thank you for a wonderful holiday. Cheryl and Phil Smith

Just back from a fabulous week, everything about this place was lovely especially the food, so much so I had to buy some elsticated waist trousers! We are in the process of booking for next year the peace and quiet were just what the doctor ordered, if you like to party this really isn’t the place for you, if you like good food, relaxation and Bombay Sapphire this is the place for you 😊

Pros Hotel had really lovely views of the sea and Jandia beach Deluxe sea view suite amazing with huge terrace Beach approx 10min walk from hotel Food good and staff friendly and helpful Al a carte (with one themed menu and one chefs suggestions) restaurant really nice and highly recommended Nice grounds Big hotel with lots of space and room (had whole Terrace virtually to ourselves on occasions and no trouble getting sun beds) Cons Didn’t worry us too much but generally some parts of the hotel were in need of a bit of maintenance work (there were lots of leaks when it rained in the restaurant for example) Adults only royal level split into different areas rather than one big flowing floor (we would perhaps consider a purely adults only hotel in future). Maybe adults restaurant could have done with more choice but was naturally smaller than the hotels largest restaurant. 1.5 hour transfer time. However overall I would recommend the hotel for its position and gorgeous views and we had a lovely time.

Good location on a hill above the beach , bit steep, the hotel and rooms are nice and clean , but some areas need a little attention like the broken tiles around the pool area etc. Food was excellent in the Royal level always hot unlike the cold food on offer in the other areas of this hotel. Staff were very good especially Mamadou in The Green bar, very friendly and polite. The entertainment this time was excellent with live shows every night but not always so in the past

This was our second visit, and despite the overall experience was as good as last time, there are definitely a few areas for improvement. Firstly the negatives … The coffee/tea facilities in the room are very basic - a kettle, a few tea bags and 4 sachets of poor quality coffee. We had to ring reception on an almost daily basis to get the coffee and milk replenished, often having to call three or four times before some was brought to the room, and despite constantly asking for regular coffee we were still always brought decaffeinated! It would be a nice touch to put inexpensive coffee pod machines in each room. There is no reason why the mini bar shouldn’t be refilled every day for all inclusive guests, rather than just once at the start of the holiday, although to be fair you can easily bring drinks up to the room from the bar. Minor points but considering the cost of the holiday I would expect these things to be standard. There’s also a half an hour gap whereby both bars are closed on the Royal level, which again as all inclusive we would expect refreshments to be available at all times during the all inclusive period. The food in the buffet restaurant was fairly varied and mostly tasty, particularly the grill section where the chef cooks your choice of meat or fish in front of you. However the temperature of the hot holding food wasn’t great, more often than not lukewarm and a couple of times we found cooked items to be still frozen in the middle. Soup was always cold as heated underneath by a tea light which had usually gone out. The service was also quite slack, we often waited ages for drinks to be brought over and tables were left uncleared for long periods of time. This is more to do with not enough staff for the number of guests and not a reflection on the staff themselves. They were very friendly and working as hard as they could. The à la carte restaurant, however, was appalling, the last time we visited we ate there every night, but this time we went to the Mexican night and it was absolutely dreadful. We had the sharing platter which was just frozen tasteless deep fried things and some greasy chicken wings covered in a cold bbq sauce. For mains my partner had the burger which was simply a burger on a dry bun and I had the fajitas which were soggy, cold and unappetising, and on inspection contained just three bits of chicken, both accompanied by a small portion of limp tepid chips. The waitress agreed it was awful and apologised profusely saying the chef was new, I replied get the old one back!! We didn’t stay for dessert and cancelled our bookings for rest of the week. We also got an apology from the management, which was appreciated but we were very disappointed as we were looking forward to trying all the different cuisines on offer. However there are a lot of positives! The staff are all lovely, attentive and friendly. The pool area is very well maintained and always plenty of sun beds available despite most guests ignore t

The Occidental jandia playa is very very dated. Needs lots of investment. We stayed in the Royal Level. The room number was 109. It was very dated. The corridor outside was the noisiest I have ver experienced in a hotel. It was long and the floor tiled. So when the staff were pushing their trollies along at 7 am it sounded like thunder! Also the air con was one of the poorest I have ever experienced. We just used the ceiling fan. On the plus side the food in the royal level restaurant was very good and the service was excellent. As for the a la carte restaurant don’t waste your time. The food is awful. We went to a Greek and Italian night. Both times the menu was poor and the food even worse. Location wise the hotel is at the end of the main resort and takes about 20 mins to walk to shops and restaurants. At the bottom of the hotel there is a so called shopping mall. However it is derelict and devoid of any life. Suffice to say we would not return to this hotel and suggest you give it a miss.

Just got back from Royal Level. We checked in online using Barceó app which made it teally quick and easy on arrival. Booked deluxe suite with sea view. It was amazing large room with lots of space for clothes. Bathroom was brilliant with shower and whirlpool bath. Room was cleaned daily unless we said not to. Mini bar topped up daily. Royal level had two pools and a jacuzzi. Had to be up for breakfast if you wanted a lounger. Bar near pools so no need to go far. Meals were in Atlantico restaurant was varied and we always found something we liked. You can use normal restaurant if you wanted but we never did. We had a meal in Patio Canario restaurante which was excellant as well. Bar Verde was best place for a cocktail and very relaxing for after dinner drinks. Overall view of hotel. Will agree with other reviews as to some parts needing work. But this is on going as we could see whilst there. So not really a big issue. All the staff in the royal level from check in, restaurants, cleaners and bar staff were all freindly and do an excellant job. They are all a credit to the hotel. Would we go back. Most certainly.

This is our 8th year of coming to this hotel in October. We stayed in the Royal Level which is the adults only section of the hotel. In reception we were initially given room 156, however this room is much smaller than all the others and to be given this room was surprising as we told the receptionist how many times we had visited. We later found out that another regular 2 guests were also given this room and declined it as well as us. It was also sad to see that more of the regular staff had been moved in to the dining room in the other part of the hotel. New waiters, who were obviously new to the job, were placed in the Royal Level restaurant who were not as competent. Luckily Elena was still working there and she served us in an excellent manner. Despite these observations we had a lovely time. The food was excellent and we also enjoyed the à la carte dining option of which we would like to be available 7 evenings a week. Marta was as lovely and competent as always and assisted by the gorgeous Christian! I confess I did resort to putting our towels down earlier than usual as the sun-beds were going quickly!
