Reviews
We asked for cleaning throughout our stay on the day of our arrival and it did not happen. We had to ask twice more (stayed five nights).
The breakfast was either a la carte or buffet. We did not want buffet style breakfast but a good a la carte breakfast like we are used to from the Hoxton hotels. We were send away to the lobby the first time we took breakfast in the hotel, there was not an option to order in the restaurant. We felt a bit set aside. The second time, yes we had to go a second time because it was too early for other options, we were put in between the lobby and the restaurant, because the lobby was closed and the restaurant for buffet only. After that, everything went wrong. I received an oatmilk cappuccino instead of regular milk, fried eggs instead of scrambled and the scrambled tasted like it was from the buffet (not freshly made). Save to say I do not recommend having breakfast at the hotel.
My experience at The Hoxton Poblenou, Barcelona, unfortunately warrants a one-star rating due to a serious security failure.
Prior to the incident, my stay was positive. The hotel well located, and my check-in experience was smooth, professional, and welcoming. Everything initially met the expectations I had for a hotel of this caliber.
However, during my stay, money was stolen from my hotel room by the cleaning staff(who are contracted from an external company), taken from my wallet which was zipped and inside my bag inside my room. This was a case of clear breach of security and a violation of my personal space.
I immediately reported the incident. An official complaint form was completed and signed by the manager on duty Jemma, and I also filed a police report regarding the theft.
While the financial loss itself is upsetting, the greater impact was the invasion of privacy and loss of trust. Feeling unsafe in your own hotel room completely overshadows any positive aspects of the stay. Regardless of how the property is, security and guest safety must come first. This issue when following up with management was unfortunately not taken so seriously and from reading prior reviews, similar incidents have taken place at this hotel in the past.
I hope management takes this matter very seriously and improves internal security procedures so future guests do not experience the same situation. Based on this experience, I would strongly advise guests to be cautious with any of their belonging left in their hotel rooms.
The reception staff were friendly and helpful, and the room was lovely. The location is good and conveniently close to public transportation📍.
I was excited to visit the terrace, but since my stay was in December🎄, it was closed. I would definitely stay here again.
Unfortunately, the failure began immediately upon arrival. There was absolutely no sense of welcome — no greeting, no acknowledgment such as “Hello,” “Welcome,” or even a basic question like “How was your journey?”. The young female agent at the front desk simply looked up and demanded our passports and details. The interaction felt cold, purely transactional, and highly unprofessional, which is not what one expects from a hotel of your reputation.
Due to a misunderstanding during the check-in process, a manager named Dmitri intervened. Regrettably, this did not improve the situation. On the contrary, it made it significantly worse. His attitude was unpleasant, with no smile, no empathy, and no sense of basic hospitality. The way he spoke to us was shocking and completely lacking in professionalism and humanity.
Hospitality is about welcoming guests and making them feel comfortable. Sadly, this was entirely absent during our arrival. This experience has left a very negative impression, and as a result, I can confidently say that I will never stay at this hotel again.
I felt it was important to share this feedback so that serious improvements can be made in staff training and guest relations.
They replied to my initial emails, but once I brought up the tax issue, they stopped responding.
It's not a lot of money, only about 20-something euros, but it left a bad taste. Just a heads-up for everyone to clarify these things when checking in.
Two tips to keep in mind:
1. The front desk will ask if you want daily room cleaning, which is complimentary.
2. They require a deposit of 50 euros per room per night. This is refundable upon check-out (mine was refunded instantly). This deposit can also be used to cover the 'city tax' – they won't charge the city tax separately at check-in, but rather deduct it from your deposit at check-out.
The room itself was spacious, with enough space to fully open two 27-inch suitcases. The bathroom had small tiles, giving it a very modern Spanish feel. I also fell in love with the glass cups in the room – they're a Belgian brand, and yep, added to my cart again! The bed was large and very comfortable.
If you want your towels changed daily, remember to toss them on the floor; if you hang them up, they won't be replaced.
The hotel's surroundings are lively and convenient, with shopping malls, supermarkets, and plenty of shopping options. You can easily reach 'Gaudi's Three Masterpieces' by taking a bus from nearby, which gets you there in about half an hour.
