We had a truly wonderful stay at 33 Lake Terrace in Hikkaduwa. From the moment we arrived, the service was absolutely exemplary - attentive, warm, and effortlessly professional without ever feeling intrusive. Janaka and his team clearly take great pride in creating a calm and welcoming atmosphere. We happened to be there for our anniversary, and the staff really pulled out all the stops to make it special - such thoughtful touches that made us feel genuinely celebrated. We were also staying there while waiting for our re-routed onward flight to Singapore after the disruption in the Gulf, and it turned out to be the perfect place to decompress. The setting is simply stunning. The views over the estuary are breathtaking, especially at sunrise and in the soft light of early evening. It’s one of those rare places where you immediately feel a sense of stillness and space. Our room was beautifully designed - contemporary, stylish, and clearly the work of someone with a strong interior design eye - yet clearly anchored in Sri Lanka. Every detail felt considered, and the views from the room made it hard to leave. Waking up and enjoying breakfast in that landscape each morning was a real highlight. The food was exceptional - fresh, flavourful, and clearly prepared with care. Every meal felt thoughtful and of a very high standard. Our Sri Lankan breakfasts were the best we've ever had - beautifully presented tropical fruit plate, freshly prepared juices and our favourite - egg hoppers with coconut sambal, seeni chutney and fish curry. We miss them! This is a place that balances beauty, tranquility, and genuine hospitality with real ease. A perfect retreat at exactly the right moment - we would return without hesitation.

If you are looking for paradise, look no further. 33 Lake Terrace is an exquisite, full on 5* quality hotel. Set on the banks of a tidal lake, it's a quiet haven with oodles of wildlife to pique your interest. We relaxed in and around the infinity pool, chilled by the lake and the town of Hikkaduwa is a short tuk-tuk ride away. The staff were amazing and met our every need, including talking to taxi drivers for us! The breakfasts were to die for, and kept us going for most of the day. There is a fine "snack menu" that was sufficient for evening meals but if you wanted something more substantial, there is the offer of a-la-carte. We began with a luxury room which overlooked the pool. It was spacious and met all our needs. The en-suits was roomy and very well stocked with essentials. The bed was very comfy and roomy. Air-con was quiet and effective. We spent 11 days in this wonderful haven. We stayed longer than expected due to flight cancellation through the Middle East. The management were very helpful and even upgraded us to a luxury suit for our last 3 nights. The suits are something else! To sum up, 33 Lake Terrace offers great value for money, nothing disappoints, the staff are top class, the facilities are faultless and the pool is perfect. We spent quite a lot of time staring at the views which are quite stunning. If you want a relaxing stay in a quiet corner of Sri Lanka, give 33 Lake Terrace a go - you won'y be disappointed. It is a beautiful property. Amazing architecture and a calmness brought about by the staff and hues of blue and white. It is on the river which calmly flows the whole day, surrounded by lush green trees that helps keeping the place cool even in the peak afternoon. The rooms are comfortable, spacious and very tastefully done up. The rooms that we were staying in had the bird theme. The room showcased the Sri Lankan crafts. The bathroom was clean, spacious and had hot water. Each room has a balcony to sit in. The breakfast was scrumptious. We spent a lot of time by the pool which overlooked the river. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Everything and everyone made our stay memorable.

Very nice and charming hotel. You sit on the Terrace with a wonderful view over the lake. It is not far away from the Village. We arranged a few trips and activities-easy to organise. Nice Long Beach. The Manager is attentive and supportive. We had great 4 days there and we can highly recommend it.

I visited 33 Lake Terrace briefly and was truly taken by its beauty. Each room tells a story, inspired by the craft and culture of Sri Lanka. It’s so beautifully designed — every corner feels intentional and calming. Knowing a dear friend created it made it even more special. The boat ride was honestly the most peaceful part of my day. Such a lovely, soul-soothing spot.

My wife and I had a wonderful time at 33 Lake Terrace, staying in the Kurundu Room (Cinnamon Room). The room had a beautiful view of the lake and infinity pool, making it a peaceful retreat. The staff were friendly and welcoming, ensuring we had everything we needed. The service and food were excellent, and our candlelit dinner on the deck was truly special. If you're looking for a romantic and relaxing getaway, this place is perfect. Highly recommended!

For us 33 Lake Terrace was the nicest hotel we stayed at during our time in Sri Lanka. The hotel is beautifully designed, the location at the lake is so peaceful and beautiful - simply amazing. On top of this Mr Panduka and the entire staff were exceptional, very discreet but always available and just very nice. The breakfast was very good but the dinner was just amazing, both the food and the atmosphere. While the location is a bit remote (15-20min walk into town) we enjoyed the uniqueness of the hotel as well as the marvelous views of the lake - highly recommended!
