After a late breakfast and a short walk around beautiful Unawatuna, we came across this lovely place. A sign with a cup of coffee instantly told us it was exactly the spot we were looking for for a perfect midday break.
The breakfast menu was still available, so along with a mocha, we decided to try the smoothie bowl and the French toast with caramelized banana — and guys, this place does not mess around when it comes to quality.
The staff are incredibly kind and welcoming. Don’t miss out on this gem, folks 🙏🏽☕️

A lovely stay at this pretty and peaceful hotel. The staff were so friendly and kind and we enjoyed relaxing in the garden with the pool and visiting the turtles at the beach most mornings. Highly recommend

This resort was pure paradise. Beautiful bungalows on the beach at reasonable prices and a restaurant serving international standard food. The staff were very friendly and professional while being chilled. They were genuinely motivated to make sure you enjoyed your stay. Located 20 mins from Galle and next door to Turtle Beach, the resort is well located but in a quiet area. I had the best night's sleep here, especially after having an amazing massage on offer. Can't wait to go back and spend more time there. Highly recommended!

We came across the hotel on our walk towards turtle beach. Chanakana welcomed us and took excellent care - preparing a table right upfront the beach where we spent some time drinking coffee and watching the turtles. We then decided to stay for the rest of the day. For a decent price you get a sunbed, towels, access to the pool and sanitary facilities. Food and drinks were excellent and the atmosphere was calm. You take a very short walk (you have to climb some rocks) to get to turtle beach. Chanaka took care of us in such a loving and caring way that we really enjoyed staying there and would definitely recommend the place - even for just a few hours to relax.

Great service from our host Chan, very welcoming and his attention to detail was excellent, catering to our every request. The food was delicious, drinks made perfectly and quickly. A perfect spot for an afternoon beverage and meal while you relax and watch the turtles feeding in the shallows

We stayed with my daughter in one of the Luxury Gabana beach cottages, and the location was truly stunning. Waking up right on the oceanfront with such a beautiful view was unforgettable.
However, our experience was overshadowed by a serious food-related incident. We ordered food from the hotel, and although it tasted good, both of us ended up with food poisoning. We had not eaten anywhere else that day. My daughter also had an allergic reaction to mango because her mixed fruit juice contained mango — this part is her responsibility, as she didn’t mention her allergy. But her condition clearly went far beyond an allergy: she became severely dehydrated, could not walk, and we had to call an ambulance. We were taken to the National Hospital, and we spent the whole day there. I also became sick, which means the issue was not only from the juice but likely from something in the food or sauce.
Because of this, we missed breakfast and lost almost an entire day of our holiday. When we returned to the hotel, they kindly offered us complimentary food as an apology. We appreciated the gesture. However, the burger was impossible to eat — extremely tough — and the club sandwich, which we hoped would be light, was again covered in a heavy sauce. I only tried a small bite of the burger, and we both ate just a single small piece of the club sandwich, because we immediately felt unwell again (not as severely as before, but enough to worry us).
I asked the hotel to offer at least a half-day as compensation for the lost day, but my request was declined. I was told that all rooms were fully booked, which did not match the availability shown on Booking.com. This was disappointing, considering the situation clearly originated from their food and caused us to lose an entire day of our vacation.
On a positive note, the service itself was friendly, and the manager sincerely tried to help as much as possible. One of the waiters was also very kind. The atmosphere is pleasant and the people are warm — but the hotel must take food handling and ingredient safety much more seriously. Even though the dishes tasted good, the quality or preparation of some ingredients clearly needs improvement.
Overall, the place is beautiful and the staff kind, but our stay was unfortunately affected by the food issues. I believe the hotel should have shown more flexibility and care to resolve the situation.

We stayed at one of the beachside bungalows for 4 nights, and we absolutely loved it! Just waking up every day to going out to the sea and swimming with the sea turtles that are literally outside the bungalow. The bungalows are private, and are nice inside. And the staff were just great - Very polite, professional and gave great service overall. Food at the restaurant was also very good, definitely worth trying. We even got to check out of the room late (4.30pm) as it was our last day, the staff was ready to help with anything at any time.

We stayed 3 nights at Galwatta Beach Resort and had an amazing time. The hotel has direct beach access to a safe, protected beach where you can swim with turtles and is very close to Unawatuna town and Galle fort by tuk tuk. All the staff, Deepika, Tharushi, Lalitha and Keerthi, were very friendly, helpful and made every effort to make our stay comfortable. The chef Nuwan cooked delicious sri lankan food for us for dinner and breakfast. We highly recommend this place for a relaxing stay in Unawatuna by the beach.

We arrived late in the evening from Kandy and the night staff offered us sandwiches as all the restaurants were closed. The cabana was very cozy and the sound of the ocean waves close by lulled us to sleep. One of our concerns was safety but we were assured there was 24 hr monitoring of the grounds. The location was spectacular right on a turtle beach where the green turtles and other species swam into the protected shallow waters for handouts of seaweed sold by the locals. While we did not condone this practice it provided visitors an opportunity to observe these marine animals close up in their native habitat and most people were respectful in allowing the turtles to swim freely. There is also a turtle rehab/conservation facility nearby that was fascinating and educational to visit. There are 3 or 4 restaurants along this stretch of beach which are easy to access on foot and safe to walk to after dark. There was a nice grassy area with lounge chairs and a swing that hung from a tall tree on the property This hotel was quiet in the evening and the restaurant/bar closed up early. I also booked a massage and we rented took a tuk tuk to do some souvenir shopping. The restaurant also offered some local handmade embroidered bags with colorful elephant motifs which made for easy to pack gifts. I would definitely recommend this family run accommodation. We stayed at the beachfront cabana. The place was amazing, very clean, spacious and nicely decorated. You could here the waves while sleeping and have breakfast next to the sand. The beach in front of the resort is very nice, forming a natural swimming pool where you can swim with the local sea turtles. It is a place worth staying at while in the Unawatuna area.
