Pinthaliya Resort & Spa in Sigiriya

Sorry to report that this hotel is not very good. Looking at the pictures and having been there, they bear little resemblance and are not truely representative. We went as part of a tour and had 3 nights there, our suspicions were arroused as we arrived as the entrance looked very scruffy. Shown to our room which appeared brand new, but sparse. No fridge, huge closet with no hangers. Tv didn’t work, eventually found it was unplugged. There is no bar at all. Drinks are available by asking kitchen staff below the restaurant by yelling into the kitchen, who can grudgingly offer local beer or wine. Soft drinks occasionally, no sugar free drinks apart from water available, making life with a diabetic wife very difficult. First dinner was awful, reasonable selection of tepid buffet dishes , all barely warm. Some inedible, especially the beef dishes. Dining room is quite impressive if it was hosting business conference, huge, over lit and really echoey. Subsequent dinners were the same with no improvement despite mentioning it to staff. Breakfast, same place, marginally better. The resort describes itself as a nature resort, rather ideally an excuse for leaving loads of fallen down trees and foliage waste everywhere. Many unfinished buildings decorate the plot. Finally the resort is really dangerous . On the buffet table below the end window is a large wooden display rack with spotlights. On the table top is a multi plug adapter with bare 240 volt wires exposed , casually stuffed into the socket. If a child touches it , it could kill them. Don’t bother with the treehouse , the ladder is completely rotten and again will kill anyone, children included as there are many steps fully or partially missing. There are no warnings or cordons either. Reception don’t speak much if any English and leave all the room keys unattended in a pile on the front desk. Forget getting the room cleaned, not possible unless you surrender your room keys and give them express permission to enter, something due allegedly some Asian guests did not approve of regular cleaning as per every other hotel in the world. I have had 25 years plus in the travel industry and this is the most dangerous hotel I have stayed in.
