INN On The Tree Eco Resort Sigiriya in Sigiriya

I went here with 3 friends having booked (via Booking) one of the treehouses. When we arrived we discovered that the place has changed name in Jungle Beach Hostel, but they have not removed the old postings with this name on any site. We were accompanied to our tree house but 5 minutes later the host came back saying that we had to change rooms because he had to give the tree house to a group of 5 staying for 3 days.
The justification for this was that, as a consequence of the name change, they lost the old reservations, which sounded like lies since they were waiting for us and, even if true, is ridicoulous. Of course we were not happy with this so we asked for at least a little discount. The host made an offer that was higher than the price on the reservation, we had to insist to get a real discount. After moving we discovered that the place had no running water, we asked for help and, after at least and hour, they told us that there was a broken pipe and we had to use the common bathroom.
I can not recommend this place, which is a shame because the atmosphere was pretty unique.

We pre paid for our stay online and upon leaving they tried to make us pay again in cash. I provided confirmation emails of payment but they wanted me to pay again in cash and then for me to go to booking.com to try and claim my money back. They told me we weren’t allowed to leave until I gave them cash and called the owner who was shouting down the phone at me. As a female traveller it was a shaky experience being in the middle of no where (no other guests present and 5 male staff) and being told they won’t let me leave. There had been general weird vibes since I arrived (lots of male staff lying around on sofas, staff being funny about me booking my own transport and trying to get me to cancel so they can book it for me) - next time I’m listening to my intuition and getting out immediately!

A lot of issues just come with the nature of the accommodation being a treehouse - lots of creepy crawlies in the room (we had rats, frogs, cockroaches, lizards etc.).

Poor nights sleep due to noise (lots of dogs howling through the night, monkeys scratching at roof and neighbouring mosque call to prayer at 4amish).

We were advised not to open the shutters as monkeys come and steal your belongings which made the room just a dark and depressing box rather than a cool treehouse.

No hot water - not the end of the world but it’s a pricey stay for cold showers.

Eco resort is not accurate - lots of rubbish everywhere and nothing to suggest eco.
