Canary Hotel & SPA in Nungwi

The only good thing about this hotel is the breakfast. Everything else is terrible, and the reason for that is the general manager.

First: there are two hotels on the map (Canary Hotel & SPA) and (Canary Nungwi Hotel, also known as Golden Hotel), but in reality there's only one. You pay for the Canary Hotel & SPA, but you'll stay at the cheaper Canary Nungwi Hotel / Golden Hotel, located on the fourth line from the sea. Between the two hotels, you have to walk along a dirty city street littered with trash and harassed locals.

Second: The rooms smell of sewage from the toilets, the electricity keeps going out, and sometimes there's no water.

Third: The hotel manager doesn't care about guests at all. The hotel isn't decorated for the New Year, everything is very old, and there's no attempt to provide comfort or service. His only goal is to squeeze as much money out of guests during your stay.
The manager came up with the following scheme: You pay for a 1-2-week stay when you book (the reservation is non-refundable, and there are no refunds if you cancel). Upon check-in, the manager informs you that you booked on a website that didn't include the "additional charge of $200 per room for each day of your stay" policy (it counts days, i.e., the number of nights +1). You find yourself trapped: either find another hotel and lose all your money, or pay an additional $1,400. Room keys are not provided without an additional charge. We spent seven hours negotiating with lawyers upon check-in, and in the end, we were legally forced to pay the extra charge. The final cost was equivalent to a 5-star resort on the beachfront, while we were staying in a dirty, crumbling hole with no entertainment, service, or activities, on the fourth line from the sea.
Then there was the mandatory dinner scheme: all guests are required to pay a New Year's gala dinner costing $100 per person. A New Year's Eve show and program were promised. In reality, it was just a regular dinner with a small fire show featuring one performer. There wasn't anything else, not even Christmas decorations.
There's a towel scam when you check out: the maid takes 1-2 towels from your room on your last day, and then charges you an extra $20 per towel upon checkout.

We fell into this trap, and I hope it protects you.
