We are well spoiled... exquisite and delicious dishes. Authentic setting and friendly atmosphere.

The food was ok, but it’s a shame they always have just one soup. Overall, the experience feels too dull. The indoor dining area lacks ambiance—aside from the sound of chairs scraping across the floor (they could really use chair leg protectors). The outdoor seating, while lovely in concept, is often too windy and accompanied by loud, nightclub-style music that doesn’t suit a fine dining atmosphere. A touch of local charm would be far more fitting, especially since all guests are travelers eager to experience the country’s culture.

Stronger management, a more dynamic menu, and an ambiance that matches the quality of the hotel would make the stay far more enjoyable. We stayed at the hotel and had breakfast there for six days, truly hoping to feel immersed in the experience. This was the same comment from other guest that we met there.

The Dar el Jeld is like visiting a fancy aunt's house. My Tunisian friend pointed out the vessels that her grandmother would have used to make rose water or store couscous and I noticed the inclusion of local plants (jasmine, prickly pear) in the decor. It was a delight for the senses and we would have stayed more than the two nights if the hotel wasn't already fully booked. The hotel van pick-up was super helpful. Although we were not able to have a late check-out, the hotel did hold our luggage for us, which was much appreciated. Guests are instructed to arrange with the spa and restaurants directly, instead of the front desk.

Aside from the fact that it's inaccessible by car and there's no parking, there's nothing wrong with it. The hotel is as beautiful as an art gallery. The breakfast isn't extensive, but it's exquisite and delicious. The rooms are enormous; even going to the toilet is a bit tiring. Every turndown service includes delicious fruit and chocolate. The location is right in the middle of the wheat field, making it very convenient for dining and shopping. The only minor flaw is that the door lock still uses a key, which isn't very user-friendly.

Dar el Jeld is a gorgeous property with friendly helpful staff. We loved our classic suite where we could really spread out. Just wish we could have stayed longer!!!

Dar El Jeld is an exceptional hotel that perfectly blends authenticity, elegance, and comfort.

The hotel is immaculately clean, and the staff are genuinely kind, attentive and professional.
The spa is a true sanctuary, and the on-site restaurant serves exceptional Tunisian cuisine.
The rooftop restaurant is also worth mentioning, with high-quality, flavorful dishes and stunning views over the medina.
The location is perfect, right next to the souks and the cultural heart of Tunis.
Waking up to the scent of jasmine and orange blossom is a sensory experience you won’t forget.
Highly recommended for travelers seeking authenticity, luxury, and calm in the heart of the city.

Really good hotel, large and clean room with a top staff

I am profoundly perplexed by the high mark this restaurant receives. Apart from the amazing dining room in an old converted palace, everything else is decidedly ordinary. Yes they do welcome you on arrival and make you sit in the front lounge but do not have the finesse to offer you the menu to ponder over whilst waiting, let alone a small nibble to whet your appetite. Once you are sat at the table and given the menu, a miserable looking older man comes around to take your orders with not a sliver of a smile or acknowledgment. Shockingly, the menu is very limited and reminiscent of a fixed priced pre-theatre tourist menu hence you can forget indulging yourself in any kind of feasting. And if that failed to disappoint you, you can then rest assure that the food will taste no different from any other Tunisian restaurants charging half the price. This was our sixth Tunisian restaurant at this point. In fact my fish soup was so tasteless and so was the fish couscous, I had never been so happy to see a salt cruet. Even the wine list fails to include any non-Tunisian wines which is almost a crime for a supposedly upmarket restaurant. All in all, this is a very bog standard Tunisian restaurant that happened to be in a nice room. More hype than substance. You will not eat any better here just because they have pretty mosaics and lamps. Not recommended unless you really don’t know what to do with your money.

Dar El Jeld is well known all over Tunisia and you can tell they set the standard for incredible decor and service. Everything at this location is beautiful. The rooms are spacious, the place itself is a fixture in the medina with its ornate yellow doors and blue windows. The staff are super helpful. The food is outstanding. And the view from the roof is gorgeous. You can get to/away via taxi which is hard for most places in the medina. One of the nicest places we have stayed anywhere.

From where to start, I love when there is a buzz about something that is actually worth it.
Make sure to reserve ahead of time, yes even for one person! I enjoyed an exquisite experience where i was treated like Royalty.
I loved the bread served with sardines over spicy mix. And savored the grilled fish with kaab ajouza!
The mint tea was offered at the end of my meal.
A must try

Bad tasting appetisers (we tried the assortment of hot and cold starters) and the waiters had an attitude. Main courses were better but we still ate better couscous and tajine on Emirates Airlines.

The setting was beautiful though and the live instrument music was pleasant.

Ultimately, I don’t think the place is worth the hype and wouldn’t go back.
