Belgrave Hotel Oval in London

We paid £130 for a room here and it was honestly the worst hotel stay we’ve ever experienced.

• On arrival, our room door was open, which was already concerning.
• The large window didn’t lock, and when we raised this as a security issue, staff dismissed it, saying cameras and residents below made it “fine.” Only after we insisted did they offer to move us, but my partner was left alone to move all our bags without assistance.
• The first room had a radiator blasting uncontrollably and a horrible sulfur smell, likely from the drains, as the bathroom sink didn’t drain properly.
• The second room was no better: the bathroom was filthy with mould, someone’s spot patch stuck on the wall, a broken shower screen, a rain shower that didn’t work, and the only shower head sprayed directly into your face with no adjustment possible.
• On checkout, we were ignored at the front desk while the staff member stayed on his phone. After waiting 30–40 seconds, we simply left the key and walked out.

Overall, the property felt unsafe, unhygienic, and poorly managed. Booking.com are thankfully handling our complaint well, but we would strongly advise others to avoid this hotel.

It's a cheap hotel that offers shelter and that's about it. The elevator does't work. There is no airconditioning. The window was broken and couldn't be opened all the way. The bathroom is as small or smaller than most closets. They do not restock the room with tea or coffee and they did not clean the room for 3 days. We had to ask for clean towels and they had to get the dirty towels into their hands before they would give us clean ones. If your looking for a chep, no frills place to spend the night, than this is the place for you. However, if you are looking for a clean hotel with airconditioning, a working elevator and a friendly, helpful staff, than this is not a hotel for you.
